Looking for the dream fantasy mmorpg

princepetropiaprincepetropia Member UncommonPosts: 13
Hi Guys,

This is my first time posting and this subreddit, but that's probably because I searched on every popular gaming forum and yet no one could give me an answer. I am a gamer who likes very good, story-driven MMORPGs with decent graphics and lore. As such, I have acquired Elder Scrolls Online, The Secret World, Black Desert Online, Archeage, DC Universe Online and other such games. Currently, I am on the looks for a low fantasy MMORPG, which doesn't overdo it with fireballs and cartoon-like fantasy creatures, and strives to create a serious and engulfing gameplay. The game may be set either in medieval or modern times. But I'd really enjoy such great features as player driven economy and politics, the chance to become anything you want from a lowlife to a politician (well, at least close) and so forth. The setting needs to be based on realism, rather than WoW-style art, and magic, especially, needs to be a special skill that can only be harnessed by a few players, probably learned by doing special questlines or at a magic academy, rather than something everyone has as birthright.

That said, I understand that I have put up very picky requirements, and not all games will be able to accommodate every one of the features. I still welcome your suggestions if it gets anywhere close to the dream MMO I am looking for.

Thanks.

Huh... Try Mortal Online. Might be what you want... It's first person action combat though, don't know what you'll think about that.

That will probably be the toughest feature to find in a game. Is that an absolute dealbreaker for you if a game doesn't have it?

I won't say an absolute dealbreaker, but as I said, I am looking for a little low fantasy. Also, the idea of going to different schools or teachers to learn magic instead of directly activating them in a skill tree sounds nice. :)

That harkens back to olde everquest 1 back in the days where if you were a shaman you had to go to instructors in good and evil cities to get your spells.  It was quite a chore when everyone in the city hated you.  Or the druids who had to run to the circle on the far side of antonica from feydwer.

This is the kind of thing it is sad that MMOs no longer do.

What was that kung fu mmo that released a couple years ago? Trying to think of the title.
For the life of me I cannot recall the name.
Anyways, it's what popped into my head when you mentioned unique skills and not over the top spell effects.
