Overwatch was a huge hit over its open beta weekend with 9.7M players taking part. Those numbers are a record-breaker for Blizzard and far outpace similar games including Destiny (4.6M) and The Division (6.4M).

An open beta from Blizzard for which you must purchase if you want to play. I can't imagine anyone would want to try it out for free. Question is, how many of those 9.7 million will be around when it launches.

The beta was FREE, those that pre-ordered just got 2 extra days of beta

Blizzard on WoW: We won't be discussing numbers anymore. They don't accurately reflect how many people are playing.

Blizzard on Overwatch: Boom bitches, 9.7m played our beta!

My guess is a big chunk of those who played beta will be there for release. Everyone I've talked to who tried it loves it, me included. There will be people dropping off over time of course, but I think it will do good. If they got 6-7 million playing on release, it's more then I would have guessed a month ago.

I'm actually amazed how well balanced it is, and how well all the heroes are made.

They are a public company so their earnings are easily checked up on. So I don't see any problem about them boasting about their 9.7 million. Didn't ESO boast about their registered beta numbers too. So what's okay for someone else is not okay for Blizzard and 9.7 million by any standard is very impressive. People are so jealous of Blizzard it is funny.

Was at beta, liked it, preordered ... longest 2 weeks of my life. Nothing else to add. Last time I felt this way was at Gw2 headstart and few days before Star Wars: TFA cinema openings and captain america: civil war. HYPE!

I was one of those 10 M trying it. It didn't convince me and I won't be playing it. But you'r welcome Blizzard!

The game was relatively fun but after 2 or 3 games, I just felt like taking a break. It didn't feel addictive.

Amazing game, and that coming from a shooter noob. I suck at all shooters compared to my twitchy Quake 3 friends. But this game caters to all fans of FPS games in terms of diverse characters. Every character feels finished and different. That's worth quite some money in a time where we pay full price  for a quarter of the full game.

I really liked the game, but the price is a bit steep for what it is. I do have a gamestop gift card so it will be tempting..if the game was 30-40 on consoles I would but it..maybe I'll get the cheap version on pc...

well ist a pissing contest- but not really.what blizzard does with overwatch PR- 2k makes up with battleborns actual gameplay.

    overwatch=overhyped.

I didnt expect to like Overwatch but I had a lot of fun playing even when getting stomped. I most likely will get it.

BB is so boring and clunky compared. The PVE is terrible. Overwatch is the first game in a long time I couldn t wait to log into.

I haven't actually played battleborn but the aesthetics were a huge turnoff from what I saw on Twitch.  It's like the game is vomitting colors at you and weapons often cover up half the screen.  Also the "humor" reminded me a lot of what I hated in Wildstar- a bunch of stuff a 10 year old would find hilarious.

Little details like having a pleasant coherent aesthetic are things that Blizzard is really good at, and pays a lot of attention to.  Compare the aesthetics of Hearthstone to MTG online.

These things end up mattering a lot.

Are Blizzard using the same graphics engine as Wildstar for this?

Open, closed, doesn't matter! 9.7 MILLION players who logged in is A LOT !
About your question : A lot more then you want to think of.

Reporter: What's behind Blizzard success, and how do you make your gamers happy?
Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

9.7 Million is very impressive. Actually I'm not shocked they advertise the heck out of this game.

seems the games that appeal to me may not appeal to you from your review about battleborns.

that said, blizzard does have a stellar production quality with their newer games- like diablo 3 - starcraft2- and hearthstone.

unfortunately they fell short on overwatch= for me.
