Stealth Gameplay

Are there any games out there where you can stealth/sneak your way through missions to accomplish them?

I was a big fan of The Matrix Online because they had stealth missions where you had to sneak past or disguise your way past guards in order to accomplish mission objectives.

I know Anarchy Online has missions where you have to retrieve a certain object from an instance, but it's impossible to get decent XP unless you kill mobs in the mission. The Secret World has some semi-stealth missions, but they are all scripted and few and far between.

Any other games out there I should try?

Many MMOs have 1 or a few stealth missions but I can't think of one where you can complete missions with full XP in many cases. AoC kinda had the idea and it's lightmeter was a cool mechanics but it doesn't really work when you play and if if it does you gain very little XP since the assume you have to kill everything.

Have a look on the Thief single player games though, they show how things should be done.

Most MMO's have pretty lame stealth mechanics and I can't think of a single one where you have to stealth to complete missions.  SWTOR has ridiculously OP stealth mechanics, where characters with the option to stealth can skip 90% of the trash mobs in every quest and go straight for the quest objective.  Age of Conan has like maybe 5% missions where you have to sneak in and steal something without being caught, but most people skip them.

The absolute best games for this are the Splinter Cell games.  Splinter Cell: Blacklist was fantastic for stealth mission.  In fact, "Ghosting" a mission by stealthing and never being seen is some of the most challenging game play I've ever had.

Its single player but the "Thief" franchise is good for what you are looking for unless you want multiplayer.

Yep, AoC has a nice stealth mechanics, and you can pour plenty of points on it - but as it was said above, it's more like a utility, and you get less xp if you avoid everything.
In that regard maybe LotRO's burglar is a better pick than AO or AoC, since in LotRO kill xp is not that significant compared to quest completion, so a burg can finish a lot of quests by sneaking and still getting nice xp.
TSW has quite some sabotage missions (not just a few  ) and only a couple of them are scripted, mainly the ones which are in solo dungeons. All the open ones are fluid, actually they can even exploited for the achievements for example, if you have a helpful buddy (he draws the attention of the patrolling mobs and security cameras, etc., while you sneak through).

If singleplayer games are fine too, I'd drop Shadwen next to the above mentioned ones, it's purely stealth and distraction. Turtle had a thread about it earlier

If you don't mind me suggestion singleplayergames, i'd like throw DIshonored and Styx in the mix.

As to stealth in mmorpgs...the topic also reminds me on the good old stealth runs in WoW, way back when trashmobs had no stealth detection. Some rogues and some druids, off to the Blackrock we went and conquered!

when Darkfall: Rise of Agon is released try that one... the original Darkfall was ruthless and very risky so lots of stealth was involved but there is no invisibility power or anything like that, you just actually sneak up on people to jump them or sneak past dangerous areas in crouch mode. It feels very sneaky.. as you never know when someone will pop out and try to kill you.
Sneaking into enemy mines used to be my favorite thing to do..

SWTOR, Operative, Scoundrel, Jedi Shadow, Sith Assassin
    WoW, Druid, Assassin
ESO, Khajiit &  Bosmer have stealth bonuses and Nightblades have some stealth skills on short timers I think. Vampire,Thief, Dark Brotherhood have sneaking and stealth bonuses which can be added to any character.
Marvel Heroes, Invisible girl I think but I haven't played her.
Lineage 2 have a few stealth classes, Treasure Hunter is one.

The first three basically act like a toggle and I've gotten past a lot of trash mobs to reach objects and finish quests.  These are the ones that come to mind but there are others.  SWOTR had the best with Combat stealth that let you bugout in the middle of a fight if you got into trouble.
