Oberon system - not the easiest or nicest place to live.

37:21 – Loremaker’s Guide to the Galaxy: Oberon System

    http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Oberon_system

"Oberon IV, Gonn, is home to a robust mining community like those found in the most distant places on Earth: a group of humans seemingly unconcerned with their own welfare in an impossibly harsh environment. The world is not terraformed, and inhabitants must brave extreme heat and cold in order to survive… but the process is worthwhile, with massive exports of titanium, durasteel and tungsten. Countless robotic refineries allow the miners to offer processed alloys rather than simply raw ores.

The historical centerpiece of the system is Oberon V, Uriel. One of the saddest stories in modern terraforming, Uriel represents an attempt to raise the core temperature to make up for the lack of heat from Oberon’s neutron star. The attempt was considered a sure thing and its failure left three sloships of colonists bound for the world trapped and forced to either eke out a life underground or die of exposure. A competitive, family-based society has formed on the world, with seven major clans vying for control of scant few resources.

Several above-ground settlements have sprung up in recent years, although they have a distinct expiration date. In five years, a swarm of 70-year cyclical insects will devour all organic matter above sea level. Attempts at extermination in advance of the deadline have thus far been unsuccessful. As the saying goes, the most valuable thing someone can ship in the Oberon system is Urielians away from it."

Chronos System - where humanity is building a whole new planet from scratch (Synthworld)

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15327-Galactic-Guide-Chronos-System

    http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Chronos_system

"Site of the infamous SynthWorld Project. Chosen because it’s a sparse, vast, empty system. The planets Chronos I & II are dead worlds on an orbit very close to their sun. An ELE destroyed the planets on the outer half of the system, offering the perfect opportunity to design the SynthWorld’s distance and orbit from the sun for optimal planetary conditions.

When the project began, there was a lot of traffic in and out of the system, but now, money and enthusiasm has waned. Deemed by some as an embarrassment, a financial vampire by others, the SynthWorld stands as a half-constructed monstrosity that most doubt will ever be completed. The government is still struggling to make the project a success.

Though its star has fallen, the SynthWorld Project is still an excellent place for traders to offload raw materials. With the proper bribes, contractors can bring in heavy metals, construction equipment and shipped labor to be sold at inflated government prices. Those who live outside the law should be wary: there may be no place in the galaxy worse for conducting illegal business. The UEE Navy's elite 18th Battle Fleet is on permanent station at Chronos and have spent years with little to do aside from practice their aim."

    No ... not THAT E.L.E.  ;-)  ....

With a few changes, this snippet seems oddly appropriate....

'When the project began, there was a lot of traffic in and out of the system, but now, money and enthusiasm has waned. Deemed by some as an embarrassment, a financial vampire by others, Star Citizen stands as a half-constructed monstrosity that most doubt will ever be completed. CIG is still struggling to make the project a success.'

    Neither.

They get now twice as much as in summer 2015. Every month.

And have 1.372.163 registered interested "Star Citizens" (with around +40.000ish more per month)

Regular gaming press articles too, talking about the newest Alpha Patch etc.

Our fundamental difference is that you believe what CIG says, and I don't.  I remain skeptical of any of their pronouncements until it is available for all to see and work with.

I registered at the game's website long ago, so you can subtract one from that enthusiasm number....  ;)

Our fundamental difference is that i check not only one source but several other sources too (e.g. (v-)bloggers, twitchers, but most important of all (to me) the international gaming press) . Those journalists usually have a LOT of experience of talking to overhyping game industry PR guys and over motivated developers that do the Molyneux. They know to take most of what they hear NOT at face value.

So if many of those journalists - often after personal meetings with devs or visiting the studios - agree that there is something great in the making  (with the usual drama and delay), i take notice. I am perfectly aware that there is a lot of self-promotion in all CIG announcements and a STRONG DOSE of optimism .... but i would say i am not sceptical. Especially as they now seem to need those 5 years of development that I expected when i first pledged. I would have been sceptical if they had needed significantly less.

    1.372.163   ---> 1.372.429 .. substract one .... 1.372.428    done !

"Davien is best known for being the location of first contact between humanity and the Banu. It was discovered by Wendell Dopse via a jump-route from Croshaw. The system has a K-type star orbited by four planets, only one of which (Cestulus) is inhabitable, and was originally seen as being destined to be a backwater. "

"Hades is a lawless system that is technically classified as abandoned by UEE stellar cartography."

"...While the system was deemed still totally inappropriate for terraforming, they located significant evidence that all of the worlds were once home to an extinct spacefaring society. Decades of research have created an interesting picture of an advanced society that ultimately wiped itself out through internecine conflict. The majority of the surface of Hades’ three inner planets is pock-marked with impact craters, while the final, former planet in the system has literally been split in half through as-of-yet identified means. It was this grandiose level of destruction that gave the system its name. ..."

Who are the loremasters there? Info on their backgrounds? Have they maintained writer continuity? Lore and the historical feel of a games background are important elements for me. This is something that they should be able to do well. As long as there are no kzinti/kilrathi bits. Will try and give it an inbiased read.... ;)

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

The "Lore" Devs have their own section in "Ask a Dev", so you ask them all these questions yourself if you want.

W.r.t. writer continuity ... IMHO yes. No Kzinti stories, no Kilrathi stories either.

Loremakers Guide to the Castra System

"The history of the Castra System might be as close of a mirror to Humanity’s relationship with the Xi’An as you can find. Discovered in 2544, only 14 years after our first encounter with the Xi’An, Castra was terraformed for military use. As tensions with the Xi’An relaxed, so did the military’s presence in the system. Today, Castra is primarily a trading hub, though certain areas have stayed under military control and ready for action at a moment’s notice.

Castra is a simple system containing two planets orbiting a stunning blue-white star. It was discovered by UPE military pathfinders probing the Perry Line for undiscovered jump points."

Seems like many planets will have a high orbit trade station a la Port Olisar  and a low orbit traffic control station like the one shown in the picture here.

Its interesting that you can see those stations as tiny dots  when you are walking on the planetary surface.

Loremarkers Guide to the Baker System

"Baker is a binary system consisting of two K-type main sequence stars surrounded by a relatively desolate collection of planets that range from completely uninhabitable to barely habitable. The binary stars have drawn the attention of astrophysicists eager to study such a phenomenon. A Covalex shipping hub and a largely automated mining outpost are the primary bastions of civilization in the region. As usual, that’s only half of the story — the Baker system is also home to the “Able Baker Challenge,” arguably underground racing’s most dangerous event."

I'm wondering how much of the lore will actually make it in-game. Take Hades, are we going to see the remains of that extinct spacefaring species with research sites and whatnot instead of just the geological deformation they caused.
