Following a suggestion from the MMORPG forum moderators the Monthly Development Reports and other regular news from CIG will be reported here in the form of a series now and not as individual posts, starting with March 2015. So, without further ado:
Star Citizen Monthly Development Report March 2015
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14640-Monthly-Report-March
Highlights:
"March saw the release of the 1.1.0 update for Arena Commander, as well as the public showcasing of our work on the FPS and Social modules at PAX East and SXSW respectively."
"1.1.0 also saw the premiere of the new ship damage system ....we are actually going to base the damage off the mass, velocity, and density of the projectile..."
"...our Design team is also working on a new game mode, Pirate Swarm. This mode will allow players to engage against waves of enemy ships similar to Vanduul Swarm except that the opposing ships will be comprised of every flyable ship that we currently have in dogfighting.....The goal for Pirate Swarm is not to just have a preset number and type of ships per wave but instead to have the types of ships, AI skill, and number of ships scale dynamically based off the number of players, their equipment, and their skill/success. "
"A lot of continued work has also been going into the tutorial which is going to be coming one of the AC releases in April."
FPS module arena combat: "...SATA Ball is a new game mode we are implementing that is a futuristic sport of sorts. Gliding around in zero gravity, the goal is to get a ball into a goal by passing it to your team mates, all while shooting and getting shot at..."
"This past month saw the introduction of Electronic Access and the REC system. Anyone who plays the game now has the ability to earn credits through ranked matches that will let them try out new ships and/or equipment."
"....the new Homepage design is coming up, as it has now entered its QA phase. This new layout will feature denser but shows a lot more content and is cleaner with a tiling and layout approach..."
"Much work was done on the Starmap. Our Unity-based functionality prototype keeps expanding to include prototype ideas on how to show jump routes and celestial entities."

WOW.. people can say a lot about the game development or funding but they certainly can´t complain about a lack of information.
These monthly reports are huuuuuuuge and always impressive. This crowdfunding project is a joy to follow and really is the gold standard in community involvement.
YES I HAVE FUN
I hope this works and gets implemented asap.

The Star Citizen Monthly Development report for May 2015 is out.
The already lengthy detailed report got even longer with the addition of the Frankfurt studio. No spectacular new additions, no new cinematic trailers, but lots of in depth hard work going on.

I´m glad Foundry 42 are not spoiling the SP campaign in any way, despite the pressure to constantly "show new stuff"
I really want to know nothing about it until I play
Thou should not read the plot synopsis i posted in an earlier thread ;-)

Star Citizen Alpha 1.1.6
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14887-Star-Citizen-116-Now-Live
"We are pleased to announce that Star Citizen Alpha 1.1.6 is now live! 1.1.6 includes the brand new Star Citizen launcher, a number of bug fixes and balance changes. You can find the complete patch notes here.
Alpha 1.1.6 introduces matchmaking logic that will now match players against each other based on past performance, as well as made several changes to rules of Vanduul Swarm, Battle Royale, and Squadron Battle.
Also, we are deprecating the old Launcher v1.6.3 with the new Launcher v2.3.4 today, which drastically improves download speeds, using up to 100% of your available bandwidth. It also currently uses non-P2P torrent technology to only replace the files you need. This Launcher is also built 100% in-house (as opposed to the old one that used third party technology) so we’re excited to continue to improve the user experience and integrate more user-friendly features at the click of a button.
For further instructions and known issues with Launcher v2.3.4, please click here. "

Monthly studio report for October 2015 came out. And lo and behold ... CIG Austin is quite busy too ;-) with PU Team and Live Ops Team giving their updates.
"Greetings Citizens,
October was a busy month! The worldwide Star Citizen development team is hard at work getting Alpha 2.0 out the door, and we’re very excited about getting this one into your hands. In the past, our module releases have each shown a small part of the picture: ship configuration in the Hangar, social interaction in ArcCorp, single-seat dogfighting in Arena Commander… and now we’re leaping ahead and giving everyone a very early preview of Star Citizen’s beating heart. From multicrew ships to first person combat on the ground, Alpha 2.0 is our first serious look at how the puzzle pieces fit together."

New monthly studio report for November 2015. Lots of information on how the various studios were working on the Alpha 2.0 build (first PTU, now the standard test server):
"It’s likely that many of you know exactly what we were working on, as we’ve been publishing updates to Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 on the PTU as quickly and as quickly as possible. As you’ve observed, your testing and feedback has allowed us to zero in faster on the various bugs that were preventing us from going live. We’re pleased to announce that as of today (December 11, 2015) Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 is available live!"

New monthly studio report for December 2015. In depth progress report.
Highlights:
ItemSystem 2.0:
"Lead Engineer Paul Reindell and Engineer Mark Abent have been aggressively working on what we’re calling “ItemSystem 2.0”. This system will allow greater control over the itemization on the back end. The first iteration has been integrated into our development code and we are starting to see the preliminary benefits of this new system that’s really exciting our developers. "
More landing zones:
"Because of this, we are shifting gears slightly and shuffling our schedule around to get MORE landing zones ready in a shorter amount of time, which means everyone not only has to be efficient, but also be clever at the same time. We’re still focusing on hero locations like Hurston and Crusader, but we’re also prioritizing smaller landing zones like Sherman and Odyssa and space stations like mining outposts and research stations. Each of these locations will have their own points of interest and shops, and this requires a lot of design attention by the likes of Rob Reininger and Evan Manning."

Quick look at AI behaviour in Star Citizen.
Personally I always find NPC behaviour important in games. Many many newer games (and most MMOs) do not fare well when compared to old classic games like Ultima IV, where NPCs followed daily patterns (eat, sleep, work etc. ... bake bread ;-) and moved around from house to field to tavern and back to house throughout the day.

Then we have a comical video.
This video was only linked for the comical factor and is no way attempting to make fun of the concept demo.

Maybe one day the creator of the video will understand the difference between a release ready polished game and a mid development WIP first look at a game.
And why comparing those two is pointless.

Looks like some experienced people find their way from the Sony and Lionhead studios to CIG.
Shopping malls to open in Port Olisar (Crusader), Arc Landing Zone 18 (ArcCorp), Hurston and Levsky landing zone, with specials for persistent weapons and clothing - sounds interesting to me.
A new pirate port of call for those criminals that are no longer welcome at Port Olisar.
With rough fellow pirates that make the port visit memorable....
Lots of work on capital ships. Hope to see some videos of that soon.
