(Maybe a new thread would be a better fit but I'm lazy and reply is easier  and I mentioned the U17 preview above anyways...)

So, U17 will launch today, Frelorn posted the notes too  https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?580912-Update-17-Release-Notes
Mostly what was in the preview already, Minas Tirith and the story moves forward, 2 bigbattles (with guest stars from CO and TSW, Grond and Flappy  ), new crafting tier (sadly the farming gets an another dumbing down, according to the notes...), some bugfixes, and
cosmetic weapon upgrades which I forget above to mention... So, from now on you can hide weapons without putting it back to the bag, equip restrictions are loosened a bit too, plus the cosmetic items won't disappear in combat if the animation is "compatible" (example was using the slapping fish cosmetically over a 1H mace).

So, the EU servers are online right?

ie the Amsterdam(?) server locale so I don't have to play at 100+ ms.

Nope, everything is still in Boston. But there will be an another stress-test of the new hardver under Bullorarer tonight.

    -----
edit on the next day: (since self-bump is a cheapo way to increase post count  )

seems they've ironed out things, the test of yesterday was much better than the first one. Or it was because of the less Balrogs   Seriously, compared to the previous, Balrog-infested Bree, this time it was only Amarthiel entertaining the players, plus 1 Balrog visited for a short time before moved to Minas Tirith.

This time the chokepoint was the login server, needed a restart couple of times, huge login queues (https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?580313-Bullroarer-Event!/page45&p=7478448#post7478448  - one queue to rule them all  ), disconnects during login, etc. but when you got it, there was much less lag than last time, while had a similar number of players. Eldalleth posted a couple vids about it https://youtu.be/8Uxx4os8OZ4

It was a fun night. Loved the jetpack

Well, seems we were too successful with stressing the new gear... they will push back the datacenter launch, at least with a couple weeks:

This is quickly turning into AoC crafting revamp. Ah yes, "quickly" lol.

I better not miss quad on Steam.

They've taken it slowly, but almost everyone can transfer off a closing server to a remaining one, and the remaining ones are so far coping mostly fine with the old hardware. There are some performance issues with newer areas (lots more very active players, I suppose). But in the Bullroarer tests on the new hardware they had more people on a single server they've had in the history of the game, all in one area, all active, and it worked fairly well.

    So, how are the servers?
  • Po_ggPo_gg Member RarePosts: 4,751
In a sad state, apparently. Currently I'm playing CO instead...

Jokes aside, if you haven't followed the events, here's a recap from a week ago: http://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/comment/6829822/#Comment_6829822  (in short, no Eu move, at least yet, and no word about it in the future either)

And the week since, a trainwreck, mostly. Unplayable for lots of peeps, lost/missing items and characters, can't log in, disconnects, rubberbanding, everything you can list under the category "unplayable".
There were two fixes already, a couple server restarts, a small and a bigger maintenance, currently (as in right now) they're investigating login issues again... it's a mess. I only checked once, on a few characters in a closing server, those characters were unharmed - I rather not touch my more important toons until everything is sorted out.
But at least it's a good "cover" for them, no need to come up with a story about the second move, since the threads of "tell us anything solid about the Eu move" are turned into "fix the game already"... /sarcasm

So yep, in CO there's the sky race event, at least that is fun

Goodbye Silverlode, we had some fun times. I'm too lazy to download the game and move my characters, I guess they'll just stay in Limbo forever, wonder if Turbine will eventually just delete them?

Nope, currently (which is not set in stone, I mean they switched for a Jersey-only server move just 2 days before the maintenance  ) the state is:
no changes for you yet, you can play on Silverlode. Or transfer them characters / items for free to a remaining US server (but not onto a Eu one).
After 4th April 2016 servers will close down, so you can't access the characters anymore, but still can transfer them off for free (the transfer tool will see them, and will see them forever. At least that's the plan currently, but of course it may change any time, since it's Turbine  ). So, no plans for deleting them.

edit: and if you decide to go back, check this

    Wow, lol.

I bet that they regret right now that they ever decided to abandon EU-the homeland of LoTR fanbase. /sillymove

Well, seems the 17.2 update fixed some issues, it's less clunky and barely no rubberbanding and such.
The changes are nice too (here's the list https://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?594805-Update-17-2-Release-Notes
I think it's maybe more news-worthy than a mere companion added in Neverwinter store, right Suzie? ).

There was a first impression video discussed on forum earlier (this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PqXELxO5LI  - he takes HL's beorning beorning joke  ), where Peon listed slow combat to the cons... I don't think there's a direct connection, but he used a champ for the review, and now one of the changes in the update is that Turbine made champions "... feel less 'clunky' "

(and off-topic, but speaking of news-worthy: in TSW the golden week has started today... golem hunting is fun)

Just dusting off this one for a thread completion, since the transfer "story" reached its end today, the 20 servers listed in Death note were closed and removed from the launcher. Closure was fairly quiet, most folks moved on already, I saw maybe a couple players online tops, before the shutdown.

And we will stay on those servers for a bit more, since transfers are closed too, so we can't grab our stuff and move away  Hopefully they will give the transfer tool back by the time Update18 arrives.
Farewell, Withy and Snowy and Gilrain...  /wave

There's still no EU datacenter for the servers, correct?
  • Po_ggPo_gg Member RarePosts: 4,751
Correct, that was just a ploy / prank / lie (depends on how you interpret it...)
Both the 5 US and the 5 Eu servers remained are still in Jersey, and will stay there.

    Yeah, I thought so.

I was ready to try it again (I have a lifetime sub) - but there's no way I'll bother with those atrocious ping times.

Yes, I know the game is playable with 150-200 ping, but I simply find it unacceptable.

    Thanks for info.

It sounds like something happened that they won't tell us about. Perhaps funding got pulled, they overspent, or something.

It's not about not telling the reasons, more like the timing, and the lack of communication (but it was discussed already). Sure, plans can change, anything can come up.

The problem is when they're quiet about it for months, keep raising the hopes, keep taking the money, etc. and then at the very last moment (3 days before the actual move) they slip it out, not even officially just within Frelorn's stream dropping a line "...and the servers will move to Jersey".
Then, for the landslide of questions raised after the stream, no further answers, just days later a PR bullpoo from Vyv about: that's gonna happen, suck it up, we won't discuss this further.

What's worse is that if you see it from the company's side, they managed to get away with it, "thanks" to the total failure of server move. People can be pissed off only once... and after a month, 6 weeks, when they slowly pushed back the performance to bearable levels, the Eu folks either left already, or just accepted the situation and stayed in game.

Turbine calculated it, measured it, decided to hush about it for months (since they knew there won't be an Eu move somewhere around summer already), and killed two f.ck-ups with one sh.tstorm... maybe they even got a bonus for it at the end of the fiscal year.
