To be honest HOT is a disaster I wanted to refund a few time because I consider this patch a scam...I barely played gw2 after hot .
If you look at patches .... Cash shop updates only freaking cash shop updates ...

i dodge the "HOT" bullet :P , i was hyped with the new classes , but prefered to wait and see...and looks like i did the right thing.

One just has to wonder what is going on behind the doors at Anet. Sure peeps make life changes all the time, and yes this move very well may be for his wife, but there are always more then just 1 reason to make such a move. But the thing that adds to this is the fact that some many have left Anet in the past few months...... Something to make you think that there more at work here.

Never the less I wish him and his family the best!!!

Agreed. Bioware has lost a couple big names lately which doesn't leave me feeling good about Mass Effect: Andromeda. I'm sure there is more to this than is being shown.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

Most of them are Americans working in Canada who saw their pay check drop by 30% over the last year because the Canadian dollar took a nose dive.

I'm kinda not surprised with this. He has been with the company for quite a long time, which can be an anomaly given the turnover most companies have. First Ghostcrawler, now Colin Johanson...

Really strange how many have left... but yeah, amazon... I'm really interested to see what they're cooking.

Colin wouldn't discuss it in detail, but he did say in the AMA that he is leaving to be closer to family and to allow his wife to pursue a dream/project that she has been waiting to pursue for a while.

    Everyone leaves for "family", lol...

    EDIT:

TBH, the industry as a whole is in decline. There are two reasons, corporate control, obviously...

But what is never talked about is the wasteland of has-beens that are simply not leaving to make positions available for new blood. The industry has stagnated with the same old formula and everyone over 35 is the problem, on so many levels.

From the mentioned leadership that refuses to let new ideas be tried out to the 30-somethings that demand all MMOs be facebook 30 minute affairs becasue "boo hoo I have a wife, kids and a job now and can;t play an MMO 16 hours a day anymore, cater to me or I am leaving".

Guess what there is a fresh new batch of college kids every year that CAN play 16 hours a day, and these two groups of old leaders and old players trying to relive their glory days is screwing over yet another generation of potential MMO gamers.

It's like we all used to be chefs (I am 38 btw ) and now that we have jobs and a family all we have time to make for dinner is ramen noodles and grilled cheese sandwiches with an occasional trip to the buffet on the weekends. So we raise our kids on that and that is all they know how to make and do and all they ever expect.

At some point we will die and they will discover the four course meals we used to create and enjoy and think "W T F" to themselves and "SMH"...

The AMA, from what I saw at the time, was pretty pathetic. Basically they said they are looking to make fractals a bigger part of the game. Barely anything about the failures of dungeons, WvW, SPvP, the game in general.... Typical ANet stuff.

Yeah... I'm worried about Mass Effect as well..... Like I said peeps always make life changes, but when your passionate about something you always find away to make it work but when it's gone you just don't care and you move on. We all know that HoT, did not deliver what it should have, leaving the HoT zones mostly empty. All we can hope is that this will put some new life into a game that really could be so much more then it is.... And I hope it does!!!!
