Have been playing for about a month or so now. I have about 7 character so far. The brain storming is strong with this game. As I played I found new items that made me look through the devotion constellation again. The simple fact you can multi-class really amps up this game big time. Want to play a dual pistol with some pets and a stun / blind build? Go for it. Want to play pure pet build with no real attacks from you personally? Go for it. Want to play a retaliation damage tanker? Go for it. Want to play a double handed weapon lightning master able to summon wind Devils and lighting totems? Go for it. How about a specialist in plagues and poison/ acid/ disease. Go for it. There is so much here and it only gets better on the high end when you are really able to get deeper into character and devotion trees.
The endgame appears to be faction increase to get better items, doing bounties, harder difficulty, searching for crafting components, Alts.

Another nice thing is that there are only a few things you can't change in the game if you change your mind part way thru. One is your class choice, and the other is your second class choice. There is also a decision you make with faction around act 3 that cements your faction which will effect some quests if you are grouping with friends. I would try to make the same decision as your friends if you can so you can run quests together and use the same city at that point.

I really like how you can use both components and augments on gear. The fact that many components are incredibly useful to builds also further cements the long term enjoyment most will have with changing up builds and having fun

And here this game was reported to be vaporware for many years.

    I can't quite believe it's finally released.

I hope it holds up to current standards (graphics/resolution, UI, gameplay QoL) considering the game began development not too long after Titan Quest was finished.

It's a good game, well worth the $25. The concept behind the various advancement systems is solid; meaningful choices but resetting to try something else is fairly easy to do. The only thing you can't reset are your class choice(s). This allows for and encourages experimentation, unlike games such as PoE where if you level up and find that your build sucks for endgame, you're re-rolling. Systems like that discourage experimentation and merely force people into cookie cutter builds.

Diablo 3 and Marvel Heroes are still top of the pack IMO (MH is really slipping though), but Grim Dawn is a nice addition to the genre. Hopefully the next one will have closed MP without all the rampant cheating which makes playing with non-friends a risky proposition.

Excellent game .. been playing it for a couple years now , and it fits nicley into the ARPG genre , great looking game , with outstanding atmoshpere, it fills a nice void between the action of D3 and depth of POE ......  Worth every cent

If you're an ARPG, this is certainly a must play. I personally prefer it over PoE, which is also an excellent game. Nice write up.

It's open world like Sacred or with casual generated maps?
I ask because I loved the open world of the first Sacred.

While I love Diablo-esque type of ARPGs. I love POE and D3,I also am a huge fan of older titles D2, Baldurs gate, Torment. I might give this a try, but honestly since Divinity Original Sin EE came out. I am quite occupied.

Played it for 2 months a few weeks ago, a few things that really pissed me off :

1- Level 50 toon but still stuck with level 20ish gear since the drops sucks.
2- Mini bosses / bosses that take forever to kill and are able to life leech insta kill you.
3- Just what killed Titan Quest, vitality damage attacks do WAY too much damage.
4- No real point in being Melee what so ever, spell casters / long ranges are pretty OP, switching from melee to spell caster for me became like a God Mode / EZmode, pretty funny actually.

Grim Dawn looks great and all, but has a load of issues that needs fixing, I mean when I'm killing level 50ish mobs and they still drop level 20-30 gear, you've got issues. If you thought D3 / TL2 was a grind, get ready for Grimmy, 'cause you've seen nothing yet.  ;)   The time it'll take you to level 49 to 50 in Grim Dawn, you'll get level 1 to 70 in D3 in less time with some awesome gear that helps you kick some butt! ... unlike Grim Dawn...  ;)

As someone with almost 200 hours played and a level 86 character and several lower levels. I can say with 100% confidence that he is full of shit and doesn't know how to gear himself if he is still using level 20 items on a level 50.

    2. Right now in the "meta" vitality builds are actually on the low end of the scale. There are some very powerful cold based trickster builds and lightning warder type builds.

    3. On his "mini bosses take too long to kill" point, once again, clearly he doesn't know how to gear or skill his class and is just terrible at the game.

The maps are static, no random maps or dungeons as of now.

    Sad panda.

The game looks great, but no WASD/Controller = pass.

EDIT: the steam page says full controller support. Color me interested.

feels like a real clunky Diablo III or PoE. Just got a refund. The story and world is really bland. The enemies are meh! Feels recycled honestly.

These "learn to play" posts are so interesting and informative....NOT.

2 of your "points" appear to be learn to play newb...sorry. but that is not much help for anyone. or for me to know if the game is worth a look.

So how about a real review of the game not an attack on someone else's? Would be much better for all i think.

I have been testing this game since 2013, and I am loving it atm. Most of the negative posts about this game have been from peeps that played it for just a few hours, rushed through the game and ended up with crappy gear when fighting a boss. This game is harder that other arpg's, but it is still easy to play if you gear correctly and just don't rush through.

Some bosses can easily wipe you out if you do not have the right resists, even on the easiest setting. I can't remember who posted the comment saying most of the skills are useless, this made me laugh. All the skills are valuable, depending on what build you have.

It does have gameplay that would put some people off. Drops can be really bad, and you do have to farm for a bit. If you have patience ( BETAGUY seems to lack this ), you can use grimcalc to figure out your build and work on what type of gear best suits your char. Most peeps want a quick fix, a game that gives them an easy ride all the way through, Grim Dawn is not like that.

It still needs work tbh, some the magic skills are a little dull and need a bit of an explosive punch added to them.

Better more realistic graphic than D3. Less confusing component and weapon augments than POE. More choices of character personalizing thru multi-classing than both POE or D3. Better pacing and roll out than D3 had. No auction house with real money like D3 had. This is only the beginning for this game. They will probably add to it and make it more endgame rich than it already is, similar to how D3 went thru it's growing phases well after release.

Play 5 different character styles to act 3 and then come tell me the game isn't good. I believe you will be having a blast.

Another player who rushes through games then moans when they get to level 50 with only a level 20 dagger in hand. *rolls eyes*

People say the same thing about their new favorite shiny MMORPG/ARPG/FPS/whatever that comes out.

Do they at least have a trial version so one can see how it performs before shelling out cash, or will they offer refunds if you ask for it?

So,open world,no random generated maps and controller support, well seems that we have a winner for the "my next action rpg" category.

ive got 600 hours, what makes you think im shouting about something new and shiney ? Its not new, its defo not shiney its more like Gritty.
Trial? buy it on steam if you dont like it then ask steam for the money back.

Why did I say it was the best? I have played every single arpg game, heres a small list off the top of my head and no doubt some of them released before you where even born.

    Titan Quest / TQ:IM
    Nox
    D1/d2/d3
    path of exile
    divine divinity 1 and 2
    Mythos
    Torchlight 1 and 2
    shadows of heretic kingdoms
    Victor Vran
    Van helsing 1 and 2
    bastion
    Draken sang online
    Dins Curse
    Fate
Sacred 1 and 2...fuck 3 piece of crap
    DarkStone
    Dungeon Siege 1,2 and 3

So yea, thats just the ones off the top of my head, That I do Own or have played (mmo), I have played every single arpg to date, and some turn based like Pillars of Eternity etc etc, the list goes on and on.
I hope that makes me seem a bit more credible when I tell you it is the best.
Its not a "yada yada yada" comment what so ever. I have experience in these types of games there for I can determine that it is the best.

It is a good game while it lasts. I wouldn't play it unless I had no other game to play, which is a case for many gamers today unfortunately.
While it lasts ?, hmm the people who play this on my steam friend list have over 1000 hours each, one guy has over 5000 hours. So yea I would say this game is going to last a while.

I guess you dont know how strong the Titan Quest / Grim dawn community is.
