As others mentioned before. Just replace the game engine from the Fallen Earth with the game engine from Archeage and Fallen Earth is the the perfect Fallout Online. Sadly that will not be happening :(
If they made it a sandbox simulation of life in the Fallout world universe, and try not make it a single player story shoehorned into a MMORPG would be nice. Let the players take up professions land ,sides and let player politics provide the content.
I don't think a MMORPG would work for me. True to the nature of a post-apocalyptic setting would be a free for all world pvp with full loot kind of world. A lot will like that for a couple of hours, but only the dedicated pvp-ers will see it through for months at a time. First the settlers will leave the world, then the scavengers. The raiders will have to switch to hunt the Gunners and the Brotherhood of Steel and will get their asses handed to them, so the raiders will leave too. They only like to win in pvp and to get easy loot from the "sheep". Only the hardcore pvpers will remain and we have seen that before in other games. The population will be too small to keep up the income of the studio and they no longer can hire a good development team.
Yeah, so, the points listed all sound good. Problem is, this won't work. Not today or the next few years. For it to to be truly a good Fallout game and a good MMO, so many things would have to be different from what we get from both right now..
And Bethesda is probably the last company capable of creating a Fallout MMO anyways, as Fallout 4 and ESO have aptly proven.
Heck, Skyrim was already lacking. It didn't really feature much. Radiant quest means artifically bolstered count, with no actual content, same as the caves you had to enter for those quest. Every single one with a one-way street right through and the exit curving back to the entrance and a drop so you can't go that way in. This also meant fun things like levitate are missing (though Oblivion didn't have it, either).
So yeah. Maybe in 10 years, maybe longer, when we suddenly get "innovative and exciting new features" like actual free roaming, class less/skill based system, an actual open world, without *any* instance (WoW is often cited as being "true" open world, but everyone is doing raids, so instances, making that claim funny at best) being able to play the bad guy and so on. Like, things we had 20 years ago.
Better not ruin the franchise with a bad MMO. Besides, with Fallout 4 and ESO; *now* is certainly not the same to make a Fallout MMO. Do you see Blizzard making Warcraft IV? And what happend to Titan?
Square Enix "gets away" with it because the Final Fantasy franchise always was kinda disconnected. They reuse some things, but the actual characters and stories are rarely connected between two games, so FF XIV is no special case sort of.
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore
Honestly, I wouldn't want to be the person who'd have to try to sell the MMO version as "Fallout Online," just because of the amount of changes needed (to make the game into an MMO) and the volume of crying people would make continuously. I'd much rather make a new IP in a post apocalyptic style and not have to deal with the Fallout fanbois.
Why not ? an MMOFPS with VR headset support would be a big bet , and i would like to see it happen (in my dream) .
But personally , i don't think they able to make good MMOFPS (RPG ?) after the ESO . They should focus on making singleplayer game like new DLC or fallout 5 and TES 6 instead making another MMORPG (FPS) .
I don't think they should make a fallout MMO. It doesn't add anything to the game that would make it better and it actually hinders 3rd parties from building game content and fixing bugs via community centers like the Nexus.
World of Warcraft evolved from Warcraft 3 "The Founding of Orgrimmar", where we get to play as a motley band of heroes working on starting up a new home city for the horde in the lands of Durotar. Actually, Warcraft 3 lead to both World of Warcraft and DOTA now that I think on it. The reason they hit success when they made the MMO version is that WoW was extending what was already there in the Founding of Orgrimmar, only players got their own hero unit and didn't have to micromanage separate characters.
To make Fallout 3 work you'd need almost a completely different game. Right now the only Fallout type game they could conceivably make an MMO out of would be the older CRPG tactical style, but that would be rather niche compared to action MMORPGs that everyone is used to seeing.
yes as sandbox open world someting similar to EVE , but NO as ESO story driven mmo , leave stories for SP games, mmo's must to be about players interactions !

Fallout (online) franchise can get away with "time travel" and "alternate timeline" . Basically they can create new game without mess up other fallout game , while keep the fallout theme .
Only issue is the people playing fallout today wouldn't be interested in an MMO. Maybe a multiplayer add-on pack where they can build competing shanty towns and fight over resources as wasteland dwellers, but not a bred and true MMORPG with mega-bosses, level / tier based gear drops, etc. How would someone even manage to fit a nuke gun properly into the game? How the world would they balance old fashion hard ammo guns vs Laser Rifles and Plasma weapons? Ammo management?
I dont see it happening. At least not in the scale of what most would call a full featured MMO. Best bet would be to expect the next Fallout to have a GTAV like end-game. Thats a good thing IMO, as a Fallout MMO would probably end up being something that looks like ESO and Destiny's lovechild.
ESO is way better than Skyrim. At least it's made for ES veterans, and not for the casuals like Skyrim.
kid I played arena, eso is a pos to say the least, try to look like Elder scroll and fail at it, try to be a mmo and fail too, if you like it ok, but don't ever dare to say it was made for ES veterans it was not, the lack of skills and stats kinda tells you that
I wouldn't brag that I played Arena, it's not even the TES we know today (and that's a bad thing). But hey that was to be expected technology was shit back then. True TES began with Morrowind and even Bethesda admits that. ESO is definitively made for ES Veterans.
guess I should have said since arena, nvm, like I said it was not made for veteran, if was we would have a more skills, more open world, not a theme park who use some ES lore, also morrowind also do have a lot more stats then, and they do say it start to morrowind now you say? strange oblivion was bugged like hell still is if was not the modders to fix most of it, skyrim was a little better but even so they used a lot of fallout 3 named things and , with that fallowing how fallout 4 is a even worse skill line then skyrim, it measn bethesda is not creative enough to make any good MMO (not gonna even put rpg on this because not even the single player is anymore ),they alos lack a good engine fallout 4 engine is awfull too much loads (against a witcher 3 with almost no load and I played it on max can't say teh same with fallout 4)and tell me they don't have any technical quality on his products with also tell us about how weak ESO is(veteran es players, yeah right), a fallout MMO with bethesda is really trying to make (since that old sue from then against obsidian who was making it), I know for sure it will be something like a FPS trying to emulate a open world with no modders to save they creation and make it playable.
but in other hand the more they failed more money they will lose so then maybe they will be forced to sell the ip to someone who really will do it justice

Again, multiplayer pack = yes please. MMO = No!
Co-Op would be a much better idea
