@InfamousGOD There are not classes in Chronicles of Elyria. As for sorcerers, only about 5% of the souls will have talents and only talented souls will have magic.
Deffcon_1 - You really need to stop saying that about talents. It has been made fundamentally clear that Talents will be made available to those best able to carry out the task/storyline of the world. If you are playing a soul that is not "Born" with a talent, fret not. You can still obtain one if you participate in the World's Storyline (though at a chance). If you seriously want a talent, participate in the world's story and see what happens.
There will still be the limited on talents though. You also do not know if you were born with a talent, they do not show on soul selection unless they have been unlocked. Therefore you also will never know if your soul always had the talent or if that talent was moved to you by the engine, there is literally know way to know the difference. Were you always destined to have that talent?
I'm really looking forward the non-combat aspect of COE, the fact that I'm not forced into quest grinding to reach a "max level" and that I can still feel apart of the community without being pushed to kill things daily is a big plus for me!
I play a lot of Table Top games, like Shadowrun, NWod, Fate, Saga edition, Rifts, Cortex and the list continues. So when it comes to Wards and those with families it makes sense. The Ward is the orphan that has nothing and is doing what they can to survive and make a name for themselves or create what they never had in the first place, a family. Which can open up all kinds of idea's in gameplay and roleplaying. As for the characters that are starting as someone with a family. They could be seen as dice generated characters where you took the luck of the die and stuck with what it gave you, or you chose this family and background for your character. Which gives you perks and a sense of ease, but at the same time it comes with its own limitations. You take on your families issues, debts, business so to speak, you have given yourself a place in the world a place that may become hard to break away from.
I think both have there merits and reasons be it in gameplay and in a roleplaying sense. As for what gameplay is being skipped, I don't think any form of game play is being skipped exactly. There is no level one, no classes for there to be a standard beginning. Being Ward or someone from a family will both take forethought and consideration for what they plan on their character to be in the future. To me gameplay doesn't begin when the character is created and your in the game. Gameplay begins with the idea of a character, and what you what them to do, and then it continues into the characters ingame character creation and then once the character is set loose onto the world.
I like how the plans for families are also friendly for lonely players who don't come to the game as part of a clan or guild.
Yep, not many games offer this sort of thing, and it's really nice. New people who don't have any friends playing will have a chance to be part of a community instead of just wandering alone a while and quitting.

Still yet to be determined sis what we actually do all day in this game.I know many will eventually be messing with their homes and stuff but you can't do that everyday.although i guess some can lol. This whole time i have been trying to figure out what this is all about,all these skills and things to learn but for what? All i can figure out is the whole game seems to revolve around a story,which can or might be a bad idea because that leads to more a single player game design while trying to be a mmorpg .
Yes we all like MOST of the ideas,sounds great on paper,but far too many unanswered questions before we really know what this game brings to the table.

Well this is not a usual case,they are not pretending to be a working game,they are merely letting people in early on the production ideas of this game.Most games if not like 99% of them right now want to charge you to be in on early action.
This is all a work on paper because that is exactly what it is and likely why i am so lost trying to figure out it's entire purpose.
They also unlike many have announced what is coming,i believe the first real glance of gaming will be when they hit some gaming expo in spring/summer.
Want to know what is a very big breathe of fresh air for me....They are not trying to sell us fancy terms like Living Story or Dynamic content ,or bragging about their art team or bragging how they are going to change the gaming industry and redefine the genres.To me at least this is a huge +++. I also feel they are being honest and somewhat straight forward,perhaps sometimes not telling us everything but you can never show your entire hand before the final call.

@lindhsky I totally see your point. If I saw some random people posting their ideas on MMORPG.com I'd probably be reticent to get hyped as well. However, there's a few things you should know, or keep in mind.
1. It's not all on paper. There's a ton of screenshots, concept art, etc... which is starting to make its way out. For every screenshot you see here on MMORPG.com or our website, we've leaked 4x that many to community members in our IRC channel (which currently has 50 people logged in).
2. There is video, just not here on MMORPG.com. As we're still very much in pre-alpha, we only release videos to a small audience - a couple hundred people in our community. However, that's changing soon. The team is tripling in size over the next few months, which increases our ability to create content more rapidly.
3. We're not operating in a vacuum. We're not saying we've got great ideas, showing a few screenshots, and then vanishing until our Kickstarter. We continue to be active on MMORPG.com, on our forums, in IRC chat, on 2p, MassivelyOP, etc... We're not going anywhere, and we're super excited to see the community's response to our upcoming videos.
4. We're not a team of random individuals. Eddie Smith and I have been in/around the industry for over 15 years. We've both worked on AAA games, worked for big companies, small companies, and medium-sized companies and built a reputation as solid devs. And, even more important, we're building an amazing team of both experienced and talented artists and engineers to support us.
5. We've got a lot on the line. Soulbound Studios is a small, self-funded team. If it goes back, I lose a lot. But no risk, no reward, right?
In short, your doubt is understandable, even respected. But it's ultimately unnecessary. Just relax and stay tuned.

If you've played any tabletop rpgs before, one piece of advice you may or may not have heard for the players is that their character shouldn't be waiting for things to happen to them, like in Legend of Zelda where Link's character, motivation, goals and path to reaching those goals are all right in front of him. You don't need to come up with "what should i do, how do i do it". Its all laid out for you in a simple design.
In tabletops, where you make your own character, you have to dig deep and come up with answers to things like "What does my character want out of life? What are his ambitions? What are his fears? What does he do on a day-to-day basis to accommodate all of this?".
One player might answer those questions with something like "My character is Vucar. He wants to be a famous swordsman, unparalleled in duels. He fears being embarrassed, and so he trains secretly with only his close friends. Almost no one knows him while he trains as he is not yet ready to try his hand in public. His day to day activities include making wages doing odd-jobs however he can: doing guard duty, protecting caravans and the like, and he spends much of the rest of his time sparring with wooden swords. This is how he can pay to get better equipment and better position himself for later in life while also honing his skill"
There. I don't need a story arc to tell me where to go or what to do. I have my own agenda for the day. I have my own things i want to accomplish. If it so happens that while I am training one day that I hear the city is under attack, maybe I join in the defense and become part of that story, or maybe I grab what I can and I flee town with my friends to save myself and prioritize my own goals.
Either choice is correct, there is no wrong answer. The only wrong answer in this game is to finish character creation, log in and wait for something to happen.

Sounds good! I wish you luck and I will definitely join if you manage to make the game you want. The reason for my post was not to put you guys down, I am just surprised of the hype. I see your game in the top of the rankings on this page almost every day I visit this page, and I have gone to your game page a lot of times because of it without finding anything that have convinced me to join the hype train yet.
