Here I was thinking this might be a game worth trying out and then I come across this million dollar giveaway. The Eligibility is somewhat confusing but it does seem to be only eligible for residents of North America (because that is the norm) except for the ones in states who don't like their residents getting money for nothing! I genuinely did not expect Australians to be considered eligible even though there is no reason why not.
But what really upsets me is while all these players from Non-Eligible locations are excluded from the $1,000,000 they are also excluded from winning a share of 3,000,000 CROWNS! Am I mistaken or is this not in-game money?
Why on this planet would every financially paid up member of ESO not be eligilble to win in-game money?
It does not make a good impression with me. I would not expect to win any money from North America but I would expect to be eligible for all and any in-game prizes.

Could it have something to do with Australian legislation perhaps?
Anyhow, the chance to win anything is so minuscule you're blowing off steam for nothing, really. Enjoy the game, it's actually pretty good as far as MMOs are concerned.
I am at loss for words...
Secondly, why on earth would the conditions on a marketing promotion have by bearing on the quality of the game itself.
stop whinging and give the game a proper go
To err is human....to play is divine
Actually most of countries where ESO is available are not eligible, just look at European Union, only 5 out of 28 member countries are eligible.
However you are right about that it is all about each country legislation. I live in Poland and after they announced the contest I took some time to do research on this topic. Basically to get permission to run this kind of sweepstakes here, Zenimax would have to pay a fee of 10% of entire prize pool value and present bank guarantee for entire prize pool (that's another few % of bank costs). That means it would cost them over 100,000 USD to run the sweepstakes here. My guess would be that other countries have either similiar fees or simply do not allow to run sweepstakes with cash prizes to be run by private companies at all.
The Crowns are in-game money, however going by above mentioned Poland example, Zenimax would have to:
a) make two sweepstakes instead of one, giving 1,000,000 USD in first and Crowns in second,
b) still pay 10% of entire prize pool value of Crowns contest
That would cost them 2,500 USD (3,000 crowns is 25 USD if I am not mistaken) just to run it in one extra country, imagine how much it could be if they tried to include more of them.
So while I was certainly upset I couldnt participate in the contest, I do understand that it is simply economically not viable to run it my country, because of my country laws. And such thing certainly wont prevent me from playing the game.
So who really knows what goes on in the minds of people ...scary to think.
I am always a skeptic,i just somehow never trust those Kinsmen selling tickets to win a car or a house or a boat,i always feel like if there is any chance at all they can pull off a scam, they will as people are just greedy like that when comes to money.
Anyhow,i hope somebody ,a normal gamer not related to anyone in the Zeni max family wins the million, then let's hope they actually get it.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Because I live in Canada if I win, I'll have to answer a math "skill testing question" because our law requires it and even here, residents of Quebec are not eligible at all due to provincial regulations.

[Edit] I was wrong. It requires at least 3 operations.

But it's also one of those nudge, nudge, wink, wink, kind of requirements... it's never a tough question.
