What is the deal with quests?

I started playing the game couple of days ago and I like it but I am slowly getting frustrated trying to find the quests in the map, I have right now like 4 quests sitting in my quote that I cant figure out where they are in the map, if I click on them, shows me an empty map somewhere else other than where I am? Why I get quests that dont belong to the map where I am?
