When you make that purchase fully expecting a working ship the result will be .. Hangar ready :maybe Flyable :hell no
The ALPHA excuse doesn't fly when you are selling a product such as the ships.I can only imagine how that would fly in the real world, buy this car ,it is in Alpha, expect problems with your car,it might not work, might not steer and hey ..it might not have doors. However we fully expect the coffee cup holders to be fully functional in the Alpha version 2.0 of this brand new Lexus.
Thanks for your money, btw don't bother with a refund they do not have a bank account, the money is instantly gone lol,it literally flies right through their hands.I was skeptical but i could have sworn i saw some money flying through the air the other day,i am sure is was SC's backers money i saw.I tried to grab it to get it back to it's rightful owners but hat money is just so dam fast and slippery,it fell right through my hands as well.
You do realize that people all over the world do this all the time, right? Wealthy people pre purchase cars all the time, some of those cars cost millions of dollars. At the time that they are signing checks or transferring funds the car they are buying is still nothing more than drawings and ideas.
We really need to put this in proper perspective. The price of one ship 2500$ would buy you a 13 year subscription to WOW. And I'm sure that Blizzard out of the goodness of their hearts would give you a lifetime membership for such a purchase along with every mount. Here at SC all you get is 1 ship that you can't even fly without paying more money for the resources necessary. No freakin wonder people are using the word cult.
Is this a joke? $2,500 for a in game item. If you want I can make a real paper plane for $5,000 and you could put little lego people on it....tell you what, for an extra $3,500, I'll give you spray can paint options and throw in free gloss.
Do you ridicule someone who pays as much for a high performance car part as well? A hobby is a hobby, some people have that kind of money to spend and their hobbies.
Car part is touch-able to say the least? But more than that this is over priced pixels. More like the promise of them. Maybe it's how meta the concept is that makes people freak out so much.

This is more like a game opening a cash shop before the game releases on a game no one knows for sure it will release. Or if it does release, will it be worth playing. Or better yet, like his other business, will they flop and fans be left holding nothing?

Brilliant idea. I'm going to open a cash shop 1st, then build the game later.

In Second Life people pay big money for digital goods so big that major companies advertise there. I wouldn't spent thousands of dollars on a game that hasn't launched yet like SC, but that's just me, as I wouldn't spent thousands of dollars in SL like others do.

The thought that bothers me the most is that other developers are seeing this and over the next few years many more developers will be selling overpriced game assets that are not even created yet.

wtf people? buy a game to then buy the different ships on it? come on!!! think about it. it would be hell alot cheaper to pay subs. a year worth used to be around 100.
and from what i have read over 100MM raised and still being greedy?
Don't worry guys. There are more gifts coming revealed in a livestream now. There are a new concept sales of a ship and its variants called Reliant or something like that, which they will sell in the store, to start in the next 20 minutes or something, besides these capital ships.
They also are trying to fish more whales, by selling that useless Aurora for 30 dollars (uhu! It's a discount in the normal price). Because all that they want is to seduce you to become a whale of course, and nothing better than playing with that worhtless ship and quickly willing to move to another better, starting the addiction and buying more and more of these awesome ships and concepts along the next years, to feed your dream.
And they were good enough to show a concept of another overpriced in-game item (ship) that was sold 3 years ago, called Freelancer.
Best Christmas gift ever!
P.S: Oh! I almost missed. For the 100 million dollars achieved they said "thank you".

You're such a fanboy. Right on top of those live streams
To the second post - absolutely. It is like they are trying to find out how much they can f*** with their customers / fans and still get away with it. This "gift" to the community is like saying "f*** you".
And to the first post - from my auditing experience, the margin on car parts in my country is on average around 30-40% on the contrary from margin on new cars which is sitting at pretty low single digit %. Hard to be called a rip off or to be compared with 2500 USD pixel ship. What is the margin on Ferrari or Porsche that you use them in your example.
It's difficult to say. Obviously the price is only in the creation of the art itself. Also, it's digital, so it can be replicated many times over. However, if a character model takes anyway from 2-4 months to create, how long (person hours) does it take to create a ship? How many people are going to buy it for $2500? I really don't think that the margins on these ships are as crazy as you might think. They are, essentially, 100% profit items, but they take money to create, so whether you ever get that money back is another story. Don't worry, though, I'm sure they do just fine
NO! Remember: we are offering these pledge ships to help fund Star Citizen’s development and because of player demand. All of these ships will be available for in-game credits in the final universe, and they are not required to start the game. The design goal is to make additional ships available that give players a different experience rather than a particular advantage when the persistent universe launches. Every sale supports expanding Star Citizen’s overall development, but none are required to gain full enjoyment from the game."
Right, so, someone explain this part to me: Why would you limit the number of ships sold if they are not being sold as exclusives, but as a way to raise money? Does that not defeat the purpose?

The limit is to control the number of cap-ships to players. they are not exclusive they are limited.

But they say that there is no advantage in these ships just a different experience, so, again, why do they need to limit? Makes no sense.

They are exclusive.....until they decide to sell off another couple hundred. I'm sure it wont happen again in the future
I simple LOVE the "limited quantity" on a copy paste digital item! :awesome:
Was better last year when they sold off the Javelins so that it would "allow them to drop the price" on a starter ship so more people could get a pledge package.
Thats just rediculous. Greed is all I see from this company.
How about this. For Christmas this year, everyone on this forum plz send me $2500 and I PROMISE I will pray for you and your family and give you a photo of my cat. :pleased:
edit -- Oh and its limited quantities so you better hurry and send me your money.

the cat picture is a better deal than the ship, it actually exists in real life

(As far as cars go Morgans have huge waiting lists - about 7 years last I read - but they are at least an "in production" product.)
