I had been tempted many times to buy ESO, but then I tried the free weekend a few days ago. After 6 hours I just couldn't take anymore of it. I think I am sooo done with railroaded mmos especially if they can't even do it better than WoW (which I can't stand anymore either). I was never a fan of Bethesda games so maybe I just dont get it :P. Anyways my impression of ESO is (limited) .. it is brown, dull and constantly telling me what to do.

If you like ES games and you like MMOs this is the best MMO out there.

I like the way they handle phasing in the game, meaning that as you quest, the world that you see actually changes, which is quite rare in MMOs. GW2 claimed to do this, and it sort of does in the form of dynamic events, but the DEs reset themselves pretty quickly, effectively erasing everything you did. In ESO when you've resolved an area, it stays resolved. Not counting dungeons of course.

There's an absolutely immense amount of questing to be done if you play just one character through all the three factions (called Alliances). And very few of the quests are basic "kill 10 rats" or "collect 10 rat tails" quests. Most of them are pretty nicely written and some will manage to surprise you for sure.

If you're into questing in MMOs, ESO is worth every penny even if you never touch the "end game".

Just can't seem to stay interested beyond level 6. The game has a lot to offer in character building. However, the UI and thus combat, is one of the most awful  experiences I've ever had to deal with.

It kinda feels like ZM wanted to copy the look and feel of Skyrim to try to retain some of that feeling players were familiar with wherever possible. If they did, they did this without understanding what they were doing. Skyrim's UI is freaking awful too. The single most popular Skyrim Mod available is SkyUI. They should have stuck with UI mechanics that work for MMORPGs instead of copying the Single Player Elder Scrolls elements. ESO is not action combat and your game doesn't pause when you hit the menu, yet there is no decent flow to it.

That's quite interesting, I find the resource based combat quite fun and for me its one of the best parts of the game. I am trying to imagine what you mean by "ESO is not action combat and your game doesn't pause when you hit the menu, yet there is no decent flow to it", but I can't picture it.

Even by level six I feel like the combat is pretty free flowing and engaging. For example, as a templar with greatsword I could use a ranged holy/fire spell then charge in, block an enemy's heavy attack, knock it down and wail on it. Seems pretty actiony to me and not sure why I would want to pause during that (are there mmos that even let you pause?).
I don't know what to tell you, but I am not the 1st to see this as an issue.

Perhaps you could start with an example of your own rather than a list of quotes that have nothing particularly in common with my question about your view that  "ESO is not action combat and your game doesn't pause when you hit the menu, yet there is no decent flow to it" .

Just give me an example from your play experience, like I gave you, so I can picture what you are trying to say. And again can you remind me what other mmo pauses the game when you open the menu?

I only played the ESO beta weekends so my information is outdated.

My experience is that the game itself was very enjoyable, some great locations to visit, interesting creatures to kill, good character building and stuff. However, I couldn't get past the combat. I found it too simplistic and boring (6 skills, left mouse, right mouse, potions), so considering im a combat-focused player, I decided not to buy it. For me, it either needed more skills to make it a bit more traditional, or to be faster paced to keep up with other action-based games.

I think its best feature (from my experience and friends) is the PvP. From lvl10, you can enter Cyrodiil and PvP your heart out. Decent enough rewards, great keep fighting, its 3-way so sort of self-balancing. The siege stuff is also kinda cool, though I imagine it gets a bit samey later on. The new PvP place also sounds cool (Imperial City).

Perhaps wait for another free weekend, as all others have said, being a game it is pure personal preference. If the combat had been better, I'd be playing it now.

You unlock another skill bar at level 10 (I believe) and can either use it for another weapon or use it for the same weapon.

I've recently acquired a fair amount of time on my hands and am looking for another MMO to play. Grinding MMOs like Oldschool Runescape definitely keep me hooked, and I love a MMO with a developed and engaging economy, but after building a gaming PC I've wanted this type of gameplay in something more than just a java based low quality isometric view type of game.

Everyone seems to be speaking highly of Elder Scrolls Online now a days, I remember there were all sorts of complaints and issues with it towards its earlier stages. It even won some MMORPG rewards this year.

The game seems like it has it all: PvP, raids, crafting, isn't subscription based, first-person / third-person gameplay, character building freedom, dope cinematics, an interesting story (elder scrolls lore), etc.

But how is the end game? I personally know I wouldn't take advantage of the "prestige" functionalities of the game (where you use the same character and join another faction after you reach the max level), so I'd end up just pursuing the economy, raiding, pvping, etc.

Can anyone provide any insight as to how the end-game gear is obtained, and whether or not there's varying qualities (or tiers) of end-game gear?

    Any info is appreciated!

Give it a go lots of content and fun to boot..... What have you got to loose the download time ...

I am constantly trying to juggle my WASD with the mouse and my abilities. In every other MMO, I can move my WASD funtion to M1 and M2 and us Moue turning and M3 to run. IN ESO, I am forced to use WASD. Forcing me to use WASD sucks enough, but then not to have access to my UI with the mouse just adds to the "sucks"

While the main quest will bring you across the world there really isn't any railroading.

You can pretty much head out and discover quest areas or events on your own. While the game doesn't feel like the first person Elder Scrolls games you can have some sense of exploration.

Not true, you get 8 quickslots for healing stam and so on, then you have 5 slots for fighting and 1 ultimate slot. Ultimat slot opens once you get enough in skill tree.

I'm not sure what you are saying is "not true" at some level you get the use of a second quickslot bar. You can use the 5 slots per bar for anything you want and then 1 ultimate per bar. So down below (example) you have 5 slots to use how you want. Then the one for the raidal dial and the ultimate. Then when you unlock the second bar you can use that for the same weapon for a different weapon.

Don't forget dodge, heavy, light attacks, block making it 16 skills.  Yea started a thread about this a year back showing that ESO and GW2 both have the same usable skills that WOW and all the other mmorpg's have.  The difference was maybe 3 usable skills at the most.  Oh yea and the potion slot which is used during combat and has more then 1 application.
Are you onto something or just on something?

The quickslots are unlocked right from start, you can drag the soul gen tree on slot (I use 5th slot) right from start. So what am saying is the skill trees unlock as you level. Not the quickslots they are already unlocked.

Guess i should also point out the Ultimate slot can unlock as soon as you get that tree up, fastest i did it was level 6.
