... and I have to say, I feel lost without EQ2, I feel like home again. Finally something that I can stand playing more than just a few days without getting tired 
Ok so I ordered the game yesterday so I will have to kill some time before it arrives. Anyway, as a newcomer, what do I need to know? Anyone of you have any cool sites or other good stuff that is good/fun/useful to have when playing this game?
Will be nice to get to know ya'll! Hope this game has as much roleplaying as I have heard too

Stratics is always good. The official forusm are a great place for discussions as well. Have fun!
EQ2Interface for custom UIs. No need to get one as a newcomer, but sooner or later you'll want to get at least a few pieces. Personally, I like Profit, but there's quite a few good looking custom UI sets.
EQ2Map is a custom map that shows quest and NPC locations. Quite useful, unless you don't like spoilers.
Ogaming has the best quest database. If you're stuck in a quest, search for a walkthrough there.
EQ2 Item Database/ is a very good offline item database, if you wish to browse the stats of items or spells.

Don't use Third Party mods/UIs Period.
I can't for the life of me figure out why so many people use TP UIs...play the game the way they give it to you. All these "extras" you get from these mods were never intended to be given to you by the game developer. If they were, they would be there. Cheaters....

Well if it was "cheating" it would have been forbidden. Whats really so bad with costumizing your UI as you want it, and get some more extras?
I do respect that you want to play in original shape, but it aint so called cheating.
And btw, it ain't third party i still uses the eq2 memory.
remyburke ... xD Is it wrong to customize the game so it fits the individual better? If it gets easier well then it's only a good modification! It should not be bulky to use the games UI.
It's incdredibly thoughtful from the devs to allow playes to customize the game like this

You do understand that you speak about a mod that was appearing by SOE as a "Did you know?" tip in the client's launcher (Launchpad) when you start the game, right?

Ya...I've seen that. I just can't understand why a game wouldn't just impliment those types of tools themselves instead of having a third party do it for them. I guess if it's free for SOE it's all good in their book. But then again, SOE has exchange servers so you know where their stance on a lot of things are heheh...

If you think EQ2's modding community is annoying, I hope to god that you don't play WoW. There are literally THOUSANDS of mods for the WoW interface. It's not that the developers of these games are too lazy to implement the features, there is just something to be said for letting the players have a hand in making the game enjoyable for themselves. If a really good idea pops up in the mod community, you can bet that the developers will find a way to add it to the game, as they did in WoW with the raid windows.
Calling someone a CHEATER for using a 3rd party software is uncalled for. ITs simply a resource to enhance the gaming experiance. The maps for EQ2 suck. Plain out and simple and EQ2 map is a great tool for newcomers, and old players alike.
Are there any sites with some good movies perhaps..?
