Hi, the last time I heard about EQ Next is month away, even Landmark seems dead too. Has anyone geard something about those games lately? I have no hope for these games but was just curious.
Yea, it turns out Columbus Nova was planning on flipping the company for a profit. It was released a month ago that they sold Daybreak to an entertainment outfit headquartered in Pyongyang.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.

The good news is your posts definitely live up to your nonsensical signature.

back this up with links ..
Links... Links to the North Korean game developer that bought Daybreak?

The good news is you can always blame your lack of understanding on someone else.

Well that sounds very likely. Everyone with two or more brain cells could see this was the plan, when an investment company dealing in Oil trade and stock market investments, buys a failing game company.

And it's a win for the buyers, too. Think of that untapped North Korean internet computer game market.

The problem with MMO's are that they require millions of dollars in investment, with a huge risk of fail and less return on profit. While Small mobile games cost a fraction to develop, with Even bigger possibility for profit if you find the right formula. This is the reason why you will see fewer and fewer massive MMO's is my guess.
I was actually thinking about EQN while not wanting to get out of bed and wondering if it was cancelled.
The problem with the NK connection is that you'd have to move there to play it as I believe only the high up military and politicians get the internet. I like Korean women but I'm not that desperate to get one.
In my opinion and if true it's no great loss. Besides some promising environmental effects it looked like it was turning out to be horrible generic trash with woefully misjudged cartoon style characters that didn't live up to one iota of the spirit of its predecessors.

I'm laughing my ass off with how many have taken this so seriously. :awesome:

After the NK customers get off work farming, they can go have fun in EQ... farming.

They are still working on EQN. They recently moved their headquarters and stuff. Just so you know this gaming company currently runs H1Z1, DCUO, Planetside 2, and of course everquest 1&2. They did not shut down the project they merely fired everyone and replaced them with their own teams to run their games they paid for.
They are also working on an unknown title that they have yet to announce.
I honestly have little idea as to why they bought this game development team, nothing makes sense.
I can only assume Smedley was showing them some easy money while maintaining very low overhead,so they went with it.Even still we are talking a multi million dollar business taking over a fledgling gaming outfit,it doesn't add up.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

See? Independent confirmation. They are moving their headquarters to Pyongyang.

This is actually what gives me hope. If they wanted a quick cash grab they would be hyping the hell out of it trying to sell as many founders packs as they could on hype and the EQ brand before releasing a steaming pile of garbage.
While shocking and irrational it seems CN might have actually wanted to try their hand at making an MMO.
It is funny with the way DG handled EQ live and the TLP I was thinking that is exactly what they were doing. Trying to squeeze every dollar out of it they could in they short term to flip it, with no regard for long term customer retention.
Because they know it is an old game, and not the trend of MMOs anymore, and it is worth any effort for long term customer retention (of the few that may be playing long term)?

EQ TLP never had any retention though, even before Daybreak, they tend to last a couple of months before the population falls off a cliff.
They changed pet power and redesigned AC returns on regular servers a few years ago. Those same changes are always present on TLP servers, that's why they're so unbalanced. Afaik, they can't easily undo this without having to rewrite a lot of code, it would also affect regular servers.
The new servers with the most retention are actually servers where expansions were partially unlocked from the start, and where trash mobs drop defiant armor. Defiant armor partly undoes caster and pet unbalance for gear dependent melee. There have been at least 2 of those I can remember, and they were both far more successful than TLP servers.
Well, the quality level of trolling in these forums has certainly improved as of late.
+1 Agreed!
