Is bypassing the main story viable?

I think it's a great game, but I simply can't do the main quest lines anymore. Is wandering around, doing the odd quest you discover in the wild, a viable method for leveling? Have they introduced some new mechanics with Imperial City that allows this?

    No.

    You can grind monsters for xp though. But thats even more mind-numbing than questing.

    In my opinion you should do all the quests that give you skill points. I do every quest in every zone for the xp, gold, gear, and skill points. But I know what you mean, it gets boring after a while. After I "beat" the solo questing part of the game, I just started spamming E not reading or listening to quest. It gets overwhelming and is basically the same kind of quests you've already done
