https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/spectrum-dispatch/14984-EMPIRE-REPORT-VANDUUL-ATTACK

"BREAKING NEWS

We interrupt your spectrum programming for urgent breaking news. We have just learned of a major Vanduul raid in the Vega System.

Details are still coming in, but we have received early comms indicating that the Navy border fleet is currently engaged with a massive Vanduul force outside of Aremis’ orbit. No firm word yet on what could be heavy military and civilian losses.

To repeat, there has been a large-scale Vanduul incursion into the Vega System directly above Vega II. Not much is known at the moment; we have been trying to establish contact with our local affiliate but have had no success so far. We suspect that the array grid has been severely damaged in the fight.

We have just gotten word that Imperial officials at the NFSC are requesting that everyone hold off on trying to contact friends and loved ones in Vega at the moment, in order to keep comm relays free for emergency communication. This may hamper the flow of information out of the system beyond official channels, but we will keep working to learn as much as we can.

Our thoughts and hopes go out to all those in Vega and the brave starmen fighting there.

Stay tuned for more details as they arrive.

This has been Beck Russum with the Empire Report."

This in game news report is interpreted by a large part of the community as a hint that on Saturday during CitizenCon 2015 parts of the solo part of Star Citizen - Squadron 42 - will be shown for the first time.

I'm sure they're going to show lots of things that look really good , excite the fanbase and mobilize the masses. I have little doubt about that.

They might even sell a few more ships!

CitizenCon though, sounds like too apt a name.

Interesting rumours about plans for CitizenConference 2015, coming from - of all places - The Smarty's blog:

CIG may show the opening cut-scene sequence of SQ42 (with Gary Oldman giving a speech). Scenes of ships flying, landing, NPCs going about their work and waving.

CIG may show the (famous ?) actors that participated in the SQ42 motion capturing and audio work.

CIG will most likely show the newest version of the Star Marine FPS module.

CIG will most likely show the newest version of the Multi-Crew Arena Commander 2.0 module

    Have fun

Taken from Derek Smart's new addition from his Blog:

Here is what backers of this game don’t know. CitCon is going to be more smoke and mirrors. Just like GAMESCOM and every event before it. They have nothing tangible to show. If they did, all the stuff they have recently shown, would be in backers hands by now and in decent form. In fact, you heard it here first:

    1. They are going to parade all the A-List actors – all of whom cost a ton of money – for SQ42. This despite the fact that the stand-alone game is reported to be almost fifteen months away from completion.
    2. They are going to show the opening cut-scene sequence for SQ42 with Gary Oldman giving his speech, someone flying and landing, NPCs waving etc.
    3. They are going to show Star Marine. Again. It’s still a mess – and nowhere ready for production release. Reports tell me that if it gets released before year end, it would be a miracle.
    4. They are going to show multi-crew. Again. Problem now is that, as of the last report I got, it doesn’t run smoothly at all. And so they are now running the demo on super computers with 16 cores, loads of memory etc. Again, not production release ready.
    5. There is nothing new being released to backers, other than another AC patch apparently.

Yes, but we already know this, DS has been very open about SC development and has already informed us about the event.

If they don't show you the engine to make the game then they are just showing you smoke and mirrors. Can't believe you guys aren't demanding him to show the engine. No engine then you have to ask what the hell have you been doing with the money for they last few years?

um you do know they are using the CryEngine right?
That's the engine ok. Can you stop asking to see it now.
What you are really asking is for them to show a unified game of connected modules...that isn't done yet.

If that is in the end true, I will comfort myself in the knowledge that at least I know the what an engine is.

Well, I don't think it is a surprise that they are going to release something new (and probably glossy) at their own convention.  They'd better.

You folks do know that the prep work for these convention displays most often takes away time from work on the main game?   Even CIG themselves talked about the time it would take to fold the European convention stuff back into the main version of the game's code.  Despite the lack of a publisher to appease, I guess you have to follow convention....

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Some more fluff text to set the mood for SQ42 :

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/spectrum-dispatch/14987-AREMIS-POST-NEW-CORVO-IN-RUINS

    "NEW CORVO IN RUINS

    2945.10.06 SET

    by Sean Nazawa

NEW CORVO, AREMIS, VEGA – Yesterday was shaping up to be a beautiful day.

A music festival was just getting started in Beecher Park. The air was surprisingly cool despite being well into the summer months.

Workers in New Corvo were heading back to work after lunch.

I had dropped my family off at Kiering Station. It was my father-in-law’s birthday in Estilia and they were heading up early to surprise him. I was supposed to follow later in the day.

Walking back to the Aremis Post offices along bustling streets, a dull noise cut through the din of the city. All around me mobiGlas began to flash with an emergency warning. I hadn’t seen one of these in a while. It was a basic non-flight advisory and said details were pending. I had started to move on when the old civil defense sirens began; their sound echoed off the tall buildings along Mackelroy Street. Instinctively, my head turned towards the sky.

Next thing I knew, I opened my eyes to find the city awash in flame and smoke. A body, charred beyond recognition, stared vacantly at me. As I pushed myself away, I realized that everything was muffled, like the world’s volume had been turned down. I shakily got to my feet and turned to look at what had knocked me out. It was a crumpled Aurora, still smoldering from plasma blasts.

I could taste ash in my throat. My eyes burned from the thick clouds of pulverized concrete and smoke as I stumbled down Mackelroy. With each step, the ringing in my ears subsided. I didn’t know where I was going. Neither did anyone else. We were scattered. Crazed. Scared.

The skies were filled with Vanduul. Local law enforcement and private civilians were battling above the city while others tried to flee. From the shouts of people on their mobis, it wasn’t just here. There were attacks all over the planet.

Police units swept down the block collecting survivors and escorting us through the collapsing buildings to a safer location. Saint Aerik’s Hospital was already overflowing. People slumped on the floors, covered in dust and blood. Screams and sobs echoed over the shouts of medics and doctors as they struggled in the smoke to save lives. It was tough to tell who was dead and who wasn’t.

The walls of the hospital shook with each deafening explosion. With each one, I thought that was it. I was dead.

And all I could think of was my Casey and little Natalie and how they said they’d see me later.

I had no medical training, but I couldn’t just sit there anymore. I set out, looking for some way to help. I found an abandoned foodstall. The thing was mostly empty except for boxes and boxes of cookies.

A few others saw what I was doing, and helped me grab what we could. Together we walked around, handing them out.

Peter Marsters, a local hauler, was nursing a fractured arm. The triage tag said he was a low priority, but you couldn’t tell by looking at him. He’d been on the final leg of a shipping run when he entered the system. As he did, he detected the 2nd Fleet massing above the planet, near the Vega-Tiber jump point. Commanded by Admiral Ernst Bishop, who has served along this front for some time, the group of ships included a Bengal carrier, several destroyers and a handful of smaller capital ships.

“I’ve been to the border systems a bunch,” he said, gently dabbing the cut above his eye with his uninjured hand. “So I know when the Navy’s running drills. This was no drill.”

Marsters was passing the fleet and just about to enter atmo when the Vanduul charged.

“I used to think Bengals ate up and spat out Vanduul for snacks, but what I saw coming out of the black … I never seen anything like it.”

UEEM Trooper Evey Ghora, 26, was being attended by three medics. She had suffered multiple stab wounds after confronting a Vanduul raider in the street with no weapons. Once they managed to stabilize her, she was able to offer me an opposing point of view.

“I’m not one to talk up the Navy too much, but that’s Bishop’s crew,” she said, brightening up when I offered her a handful of chocolate cardol cookies. “The ‘duul don’t stand a chance.”

Three hours later, the explosions subsided. Hospital security watched the doors, unsure whether the silence was a portent of something good or bad. Finally a detachment of local police approached with news:

The main Vanduul force had been repelled. Admiral Bishop had won.

When morning came, fires were still burning out of control. Comms were down and I still couldn’t reach my family. Officially, it all became numbers: estimated death counts, how many personnel were needed for search and rescue and the true sign of the devastation: how much damage in Credits. Anything to avoid putting faces to the horror that we had all endured.

Admiral Bishop had come to the planet to survey the destruction personally. The Hero of Vega apparently refused to comment.

Having heard no word yet on any trains to Estilia, I found myself back at Saint Aerik’s while waiting for the UEE Disaster Response Team announcement outlining their protocol for contacting missing relatives. Inside, I ran into one of the medics, who hadn’t yet slept. He informed me that Trooper Ghora had taken a sudden turn and passed away from her wounds early in the morning.

They say it could have been worse. That if Admiral Bishop’s fleet had not pushed the Vanduul back, the destruction would have been more severe.

I don’t know if I can believe that."

    Have fun

My Line of Defense game is on Steam. I have taken people's money for over a year now and it's still in complete shambles. But hey! At least I don't have to give refunds, as I keep the game in "Early Access".

    2. They are going to show the opening cut-scene sequence for SQ42 with Gary Oldman giving his speech, someone flying and landing, NPCs waving etc.

With my Line of Defense game, people that paid for the game might get beyond the loading screen and depending on the roll of the dice, actually get into the game.

I am so focused on bringing Chris Roberts and  it's company down, I am not doing anything with my game either. It's still in Early Access anyway.

You forgot to add something, so I  added it in bold for you.

    Ouch...low blow.

These Con Conferences are only to sucker in more suckers. I bet Chris Roberts must be having entire teams working on the ConConference fluff materials. Anyway, let's see how long this song and dance lasts before going supernova.

Now after release, repeating the very same words from back then would be like preaching to the choir on this site.

HAHA I love how these FANBOI keep making all this about Derek and less about Star Citizen money being seriously mismanaged, and used for personal gain by Roberts and his Queen. Sorry to break the news to you Bro, but the future of this game is very bleak and ends with some folks getting in serious legal trouble.

IF the reports of them having less than 8 million of the 90 they raised to make this game turn out to be true, do you feel this game will see the the light of day as promoted?

Answer that without making it about Derek.

    HAVE FUN!!!!!

I understand if investors rally a group to voice their frustrations about the state of this project.
I even understand Derek Smart, be his intentions may good or evil.
What I don't understand is people whom have no sort of investment in this project yet wonder about the forums acting all wise and attack others. What is your gain here exactly?
Do you think whoever spent money on SC is stupid? I'm sure you have made silly purchases and will do in the future as well. How would you feel if you would get constantly mocked for a couple of years about it?
Maybe you are fighting senseless fanboyism or trying to enlighten those whom are drowning in deception. How does name calling help those people? I guess that only makes you feel tough inside.
You're up for a crusade? How about take a walk in a dodgy neighborhood and try to send some teenage gang boys back to school by insulting them and see how tough you really feel and how righteous you can get.
I'm not defending SC, I just despise this general attitude.
