Gods and Heroes: Publisher Named, New Screens

Remember this game? Gods & Heroes got a lot of press last summer, then fell off the radar. The other game in production over at Perpetual Entertainment - who are also hard at work on Star Trek Online - returns to the spotlight today with the announcement that Platform Publishing, a division of Sony Online Entertainment, will bring the game to market.

They also sent out two screenshots with the release - included in the news item - and released a bunch more on their re-launched website.

PLATFORM PUBLISHING™ AND PERPETUAL ENTERTAINMENT TO BRING GODS & HEROES: ROME RISING™ TO LIFE ONLINE
Mythological Online Action/RPG featuring Squad-Based Combat, Powers of the Gods

SAN DIEGO, CA – February 28, 2006 – Sony Online Entertainment’s Platform Publishing™, a cross-platform publishing, distribution and marketing label, today announced an agreement with San Francisco, CA-based online games developer Perpetual Entertainment to co-publish its online action role-playing game, Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising.™

Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising features an innovative style of combat not seen in other online multiplayer games, courtesy of Perpetual Entertainment Lead Designer Stieg Hedlund, lead designer of the best-selling RPG Diablo II. Reminiscent of an Action/RPG, combat moves can be linked together and even include “finishing” moves to provide a more dynamic, dramatic and visceral feel to battles. Squad-based combat is another unique aspect of Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising; players will earn and command Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in a variety of strategic groupings to form individual squads, create unique formations and implement combat tactics for these squads to execute on command, maximizing their power in combat.

“We are excited about Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising and about our relationship with the talented people at Perpetual,” said John Needham, senior vice president and chief financial officer, Sony Online Entertainment. “Our relationship with Perpetual Entertainment is an important element of the overall business strategy of Platform Publishing.”

“As the recognized leader in online multiplayer gaming in North America, partnering with SOE’s Platform Publishing division to publish Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising was an easy and obvious choice,” said Chris McKibbin, co-founder and president of Perpetual Entertainment. “Nobody understands the retail channel for online games better than SOE.”

Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising brings the bold and dramatic world of ancient Rome online. As Rome grows into its role as a Republic, enemies from Carthage, Gaul and other nations seek their share of the treasures of this new empire. Furthermore, monstrous creatures of myth, such as Gorgons, Minotaurs and Furies roam the land and threaten the safety of Rome. As heroes of the republic, players will embark on epic quests to defend the empire, protect its interests and people, and serve one of the ancient Gods of Roman myth. This alliance with the gods will provide the player with incredible “god powers” that can be wielded in battle against monsters as well as against other players in Player vs. Player (PvP) combat.

Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising ™ is a subscription-based massively multiplayer game developed and operated by Perpetual using its proprietary Perpetual Entertainment Platform (PEP) technologies. Under the co-publishing partnership, Perpetual will host and operate the game, while SOE’s Platform Publishing will be responsible for retail marketing and distribution of the game in North America.

Just knowing that SOE will be handeling this turns me off. The game does look like it could be good though. If it doesn't have worthwhile PVP though, count me out.

No thanks then. Will pass this game.

Sounds like a great game to kill time whenever Vanguard servers are down. But... I have to say no to this one, the second I read "SOE", it died. I don't care how good it is.

    SOE (Sad Online Experience).

This game looks nice and has tempting features.  But no matter how good it is at release SOE will find a way to ruin it by chasing some new market that promises to return a few more dollars.

I can already imagine it ... one day I'd log on to discover a surprise " Image Upgrade" which gives my Roman hero spiky hair, gigantic eyes, and a cute pet because that version of Rome would sell better on the expanding asian market.

Investing my money or time in anything controlled by SOE would just be a bad investment.  Sadly I will now pass on Gods and Heroes.

Keep seeing things like that all the time, yet I bet 90 % of you would start playing if the game actually came out really good. Yah you can keep writing stupid crap like this cause it probably will be bad (I've lost my faith too).
But please, have the decency to let us call you idiots if you start playing it.

And another thing... It would be lovely if you who have nothing interesting to say stay out or at least try to bring up something close to interesting. Promise I will from now on.

Yes, you trolling everyone in a whole thread, without even having another standpoint, was REALLY interesting and useful. Thanks for showing us the error of our ways...
