You actually look in the container whilst in your inventory, plus it has been said it is the same for coat pockets, boot straps etc.. 

Also note contracts have a physical weight

    This game already looks gorgeous, and the contract system looks compelling. I love that players will be able to develop the skill to write contracts as complicated as laws.
