    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14935-Vanguard-Variant-Q-A-Part-2

Second part of the Vanguard Q&A.

Important: if you value your (limited amount of) life(s) in Star Citizen (Permadeath mechanics, remember ?) you might want to invest in that long duration escape pod of the Vanguard Warden.

"The Warden escape pod is the only one with long term life support and beds – escaping in this will give a greatly improved chance of being recovered without the cost of a ‘life’. The escape pod of the other variants will only give slightly improved chance over standard ejection."

First - no one forces you to buy bigger ships for more (real world) money. You can get them all in game once the game has launched.

This topic has been discussed ad nauseum for the last two years, so have fun hearing ALL the pros and cons, all arguments you could think of   in 334 pages of posts:

Stop being so Naive or Sleazy that you'd promote buying these ships then have the audacity to claim that everyone will be able to get it and you're only supporting the game. When we all know these ships will retain in game value through competitive edges and time it takes to gain access to one from your Auora.

They wouldn't sell them any other way and fanbois wouldn't buy them if they didn't give an advantage. That Idris will probably take a big guild 6 months to buy and have all the extra capabilities that much earlier. Stop acting like they aren't selling P2Advance Ala Planetside2 and could be P2W eventually(we don't know yet). For the record I am a backer as well.

Its fanbois with agendas promoting their helment, helment, helment mantra praising CR and hoping other people are put in their circle worrying if they wasted the money so they won't feel as shamed, ala Amway.

That initial "gameplay advantage" you mention will be gone in less than a month. Do the math:

Based on the example we heard from CIG  ("Earning enough money in game to buy a Constellation would take about 60 hours on non hard-core gameplay" .. that means NOT 100 % missions 100 % of the time) one can calculate the typical earning rate in game. Of course this only applies to the CURRENTLY planned earning rates, which are subject to change. Based on the available data, it takes about

7 hours of non hard-core gameplay to buy a starter ship a la Aurora
20-30 hours for a single player ship a la Hornet
60 hours for a multiplayer ship a la Constellation

for a single pilot to earn enough money in game to buy such a ship (with basic modules).

If the typical 25 player crew of an Idris pools their resources, they will need about 55 hours each of non hard-core gameplay to purchase an Idris HULL  (Idris follows somewhat different rules, only hulls are available and you will have to find the rest of the equipment too). And that would only be a small part of an organized, large organisation.

If you assume hard-core money grinding mode, you could cut these times by a factor  (my guess= 50 %).

MONEY is never a problem in online games. There will always be someone having insane amounts of cash in a short amount of time. So much money - in fact - that they can buy every ship in game after a few months of gameplay.  Just look at some of the Elite Dangerous players and what they did after maybe half a year:

    http://www.pcgamesn.com/elite-dangerous/elite-dangerous-the-life-of-a-space-billionaire

So ... you can crunch the numbers yourself .... there is nothing sleazy or naive in using the available information to give a guestimate of the future Star Citizen economic gameplay. Of course, there is a caveat ... those numbers may be adjusted during playtesting ... if they are, we can recalculate.

Furthermore ... based on 14 years experience in EVE Online i predict the following ... many of those big ships flying with single pilots on launch day will DIE HORRIBLY, getting swamped by cheap ship swarm/suicide attackers  (Goonrathi or others). Because they can. And because they love sweet hot tears. So IMHO the "advantage" you mention will initially be a death-sentence-in-waiting  (SC being a game with a kind of permadeath). Then people will learn to properly crew their multi-crew ships and use PC escorts - which may reduce the death toll to manageable rates.

Is there a roadmap for actual game development?  Is this just a ship buying simulation game?

    Yes.

Dates are subject to change, depending on project progress (e.g. FPS Module has shifted to late autumn)

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14972-Research-Unbound-The-MISC-Endeavor

The MISC Endeavor Science ship is explained in great detail. Very modular, can be used for all kinds of science activities ("Discovery" class general science = jump point search or ship module tuning workshop, "Olympic" class agricultural science = grow exotic stuff to sell under the light of suns with unusual spectra). Also usable as a "Hope" class  hospital ship (=mobile player spawn point and small ship spawn point, revival there will most likely not count against "Death of a Spaceman" maximum lives count).

A more in depth look at the modules can be found here:
    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/14974-Design-The-Endeavor

Being an explorer myself, this may be the ship i work towards in game once the Persistent Universe has launched. I want to revive my old role as a shipwright and ship tuner in Star Wars Galaxies. And doing some jump nav point search - finding the holy grail of all explorers ... discovering a new system.

    PS:
Looks like some EVE veterans will love this ship. It can be configured as a giant 'meth lab, like the combat booster manufacturers in EVE ....

"....everything from mobile medical research to exo-archaeology (with the Explorer as a planetary lander) to, less legitimately, illegal drug production."

"....the GRP is capable of cataloging new experimental data as well as producing cutting edge compounds. Note: The GRP is intended for legal experimentation as authorized by the UEE only. "       Yeah, sure Chekov .... *** pats head of Yellow-Shirt ***

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14998-The-Aegis-Sabre-And-Military-Ship-Sale

Details on the Aegis "Sabre" heavy fighter.

"Part of Aegis Dynamics’ Phase Two of new ship models, the Sabre was designed as a space superiority fighter for those situations where you need to leave a lighter footprint. While no one will deny the Hornet’s place as the UEE Navy’s brawler, the Sabre offers an elegant and nimble alternative to handle an ever-evolving combat landscape. Designed to be a rapid responder, the Sabre is more than capable of establishing battlefield dominance for any number of combat sorties.

Engineers looked equally to the past and the future to build the Sabre . Incorporating Aegis’ battle-tested power distribution systems into their dependable ship-hull construction while developing cutting-edge flight and system technology, the Sabre is truly a next generation fighter that represents the new Aegis.

Aegis Dynamics has designed the Sabre in response to a United Empire of Earth Navy’s request for proposal for a next-generation fighter capable of outmatching the Vanduul STINGER-class heavy fighter in speed and turning. While the Navy has not yet accepted the the Sabre bid, Aegis has opted to make a run of production prototypes available to licensed civilian operators."

    LENGTH 26m
    BEAM 24m (Folded) 30m (Deployed)
HEIGHT 5m (Gear down) 3.8m (Gear up)
    NULL-CARGO MASS 18’000 Kg
    CARGO CAPACITY None
    MAIN THRUSTERS 2xTR3
    MANEUVERING THRUSTERS 8xSize 2
    RETRO THRUSTERS 2xTR3
BODY WEAPONS 2xS3 Fixed Laser Repeaters
WINGS WEAPONS 2xS2 Gimbaled Laser Cannons
    SHIELDS 4xLight
    POWER PLANTS 3xLight

"All specifications are subject to change for game balancing."

Visually a very nice looking ship IMHO, reminding me of the F14 Tomcat.

Today I finally decided to pledge for Star Citizen with that Aegis Sabre ship. :)

I was going to wait until the game is released but footage from Citizencon 2015 and almost $92 million collected so far have finally convinced me that the game will be completed and released during the next 1-2 years.

The Sabre looks like a sweet ship, but I already own two (325a and Constellation) so anything else that looks like a sweet ship is just something I look toward buying while playing the game.

Getting new toys is a huge part of the fun in Space Sim games.

How can you say this when so many backers have Lifetime insurance?

That 60 hours of work on the Connie can be erased in a fight that lasts 3 minutes. My question is then what happens? The person who purchased the Connie with LTI just gets a new one...for free? How about the poor sap that bought his in-game? Did he have to pay for insurance? how much does that cost? when he gets a replacement, does he have to pay for insurance on that one as well?

To me, lifetime insurance is going to lead to some stellar asshat behavior. Zero consequences means i can just ram my Idris into yours and I just get a new one while you have to pay more cash to get yours back (I don't actually have an idris, i'm not made of money).

Can you tell us how much insurance will cost in % of ship value? Meaning, does insurance for a ship represent 10% of the total cost of the ship?

I think some people should go to the official website and read the mountain of information about the game available. It's full of answers for the questions you have.
