I'm interested in reading about the experiences of those who are playing in the Otherland early access. If you have tried it out - what are your thoughts on the game? Doesn't need to be a full review or anything, just whatever is on your mind that you would like to share about Otherland.

I haven't played it myself.

So far:  Buggy, instancy, questy. I do like the unique concept and graphics, but this game is far from finished. Needs serious work.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

I have actually enjoyed my time spent in otherland, its super weird and different which I like.

At the same time, the game is suffering a giant identity crisis, what the developers need to focus on in my opinion are two things.

    1. The Intro Experiance. IMO the intro quests/area is the most boring part of the game, and needs a serious overhaul, with more descriptive tutorials and a better sense of direction. At the same time its cool what they have, visually, it just needs to make more sense and help the player figure out the game better.
    2. The Combat. It wants to be action based, and I dont think the tab-targeting is the issue, I think its more the slow response times of the attacks. If the fighting became faster, and jumpy, like you could leap around enemys hacking and slashing, or continually shoot from afar while using your specials, it would work much better. Currently slow weapon shot times and the weird tab targeting hurt the game and need serious work.
Other than that the only areas it really needs more focus on in minor areas are the player housing, and the social aspects. More grouping options with a better interface for grouping, and a better player housing system that really makes you feel excited to enter a home and do upgrades. - MORE OPTIONS!

The identity crisis it suffers from is it should have been based on the Dragonbone Chair ip , would have drawn much more interest

Has anyone done a group dungeon yet? Are they pure tank'n'spank or do they have puzzle/movement/timing components to them? Are there a lot of them?

It is extremely buggy even for an early release. Considering they did closed beta three years ago the games features already implemented would be close to a full release of not for the fact that most of them barely work or not at all. Servers offline a lot, missing textures random lag huge amount of bugs that prevent progression at times and the UI and combat are very sluggish and unresponsive. It has lots of potential to say the least, but I would say with such a small team it would be at least 6months until it's deemed "playable" and at least a year until it will be able to live up to that potential and be good.
I play a warrior with about 30 hours in so far. I had to step away for a few days, as its pre-Alpha in certain aspects. There's just too many bugs right now and tons of problems with the debs since they took over a game from another dev team that was dead (the game) for two years. Tons of content and features, once they are fixed and certain things are added like group finders and a few things get polished, it will actually be worth playing. But I've encountered at least 2-300 bugs/ glitches/problems all of which were pretty detrimental to gameplay and negatively impacted it heavily. They just weren't ready, the game itself or load and server-wise either. Just wait for this one and follow it.

You mean Memory, Sorrow & Thorn. The Dragonbone Chair is a book from that trilogy not the trilogy lol.

But yes it should of been based on the above.

I purchased the $16.99 starter b/c I really wanted to play this game years ago when Gamigo was making it.

Something that rubbed me the wrong way is that before you're even able to start playing(after you buy it) you must put in your email. I know that many think it isn't a big deal but why do they need it? I already purchased the game on steam but before I'm able to accept the T&C my email must be put in and to me that just seems shady like I'm gonna get a bunch of adverts in my inbox two months down the line for !#$% pills.

Many of the posters in this thread are expecting changes and features that after playing the game for 10 minutes am thinking may never come. If they do I will eat my words and praise them for a job well done but the game in its current state makes me wonder if this company is capable of pulling off any massive overhauls. Do they want players to get a bad impression of their game? Is it wise for the long-term to make a game available that's in alpha state?

I have purchased many awful early access games on steam and can say that even as it is it is worth the $16.99 I paid for it because it's a setting and theme that is unique and taken from literature. It is a different experience and to me that is worth my $16.99 which is less than what I pay for dinner at Olive Garden.

I very much hope that this company can/will deliver on their promises because if they do then this game has the potential to become a fantastic sci-fi MMO.

Quite simple, it is a game in BETA state, actual BETA state, not the ' buy into our game now for free publicity and we will call it BETA which it really isn't' kinda thing a lot of companies pull off these days.

It is extremely rough, extremely unfinished and buggy and because of that it can also be extremely frustrating. For those willing to look past all that some fun can be found. It is a themepark MMO, it has housing and an AH, it is instanced although zones get quite big later on and it isnt an all out action title at all.

Take your time, prepare for months and months of updates and polish before this will get officially released and you get the idea. It looks unique though and has a certain vibe I have not seen in any other MMO when it comes to its world. Do know what you are getting into at this point, a BETA, which you pay for in this case.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

This is my concern right here, especially since The Repopulation seems to be extremely slow in improving, and I'm not sure what is going on with Landmark.

Well I took a shot knowing that could happen.  But this is the last time. I can see a market for unfinished and never to be finished games hitting early access on Steam, Kickstarter, and elsewhere set up by unsavory types to make a few thousand, then shut down after no one is buying anymore. Not saying that is the case with any of these three games, but I can see it happening (and frequently) in this MMO drought. So I'm going to make this my last such gamble and see how it goes. I'm not a cow and I hate being milked.
