Heroes Awaken Update: Staggered launch on 9/13, server rollbacks, and compensation

Greetings Adventurers,

As many of you are aware, earlier today we attempted to launch Update 2.0, Heroes Awaken, to ArcheAge. While the lands of Erenor were ready for you, our Glyph authentication systems unfortunately encountered an error that did not allow a large number of people to connect and join the launch. After reviewing our logs, only 10% of players who attempted to log in made it into the game. Over 90% of you were unable to join the launch of Update 2.0.

ArcheAge 2.0 is the culmination of months of work by the ArcheAge team here at Trion and XLGAMES, and the errors that were caused were solely in Glyph’s Authentication. The game is stable, and none of these problems were related to Update 2.0 or our Server Evolutions in any way.

Our Glyph team continues to investigate the bug that caused this error, and will be working to make sure it is solved and solid before we make any attempt to re-open the game. Because we do not have an official time for when this Glyph Authentication issue will be solved, and because our European adventurers have stayed up very late, we will be delaying both our North American and European launches until tomorrow, September 13, 2015.

We’ve learned a great deal from our Auroria launch and, thanks to XL's work, the ArcheAge code base has changed drastically since then. While it was previously not possible to perform a rollback, the Update 2.0 code allows for us to choose to roll the servers back. We are taking the learnings of Auroria to heart, and we are going to do what we can to make sure we are delivering to you the launch you deserve.

Because this small number of users was able to claim a significant advantage in placing land over the majority of users, Khrolan and Amary have made the decision to perform a controlled rollback across all servers. The goal of this rollback is to set everyone back to even ground – the same ground we had during our launch at 1 PM today – so we can give everyone a fair shot at participating in this launch.

All servers will be rolled back to the state they were in prior to today’s launch entirely. All Marketplace Purchases and APEX purchases will be refunded. If you used an APEX in the 30 minutes the game was available today, those credits will be removed from your character.

Additionally, we will be splitting the launch of Heroes Awaken by region and by server type. We are targeting to open our European servers 1:00 PM GMT (3:00 PM CEST) on September 13, followed by our North American servers opening at 1:00 PM PDT (4 PM EDT) on September 13. Our Legacy servers will be opened first, our Evolution servers will open second, and our Fresh Start servers will open last. There will be a half-hour delay between each server type opening.

These times are estimates, and may be pushed back if the authentication error is not solved.

The team is currently also will be adding in an additional package to apologize for the issues that everyone experienced during this ArcheAge launch. What will be included is still being decided, and we will have more information regarding that in the coming week.

Adventurers, we apologize for the issues you encountered and how they tarnished this highly-anticipated launch. We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow, and we will continue to work through the night to make sure these issues are resolved.

Sincerely,
The ArcheAge Team

Best possible outcome given the situation. I pity those who have to work next go around, but it sounds like far fewer people will get screwed over than if they'd simply reopened the servers and let the %10 who got lucky keep everything.

That is, if this doesn't all happen again tomorrow...

    Meanwhile, I need a life. I'm following a game I don't even play.

What's kind of sad, yet funny, is that the whole problem is with Glyph. Another piece of software that noone wants to have to use/install, yet is forced upon them.

Good decision. Now I need to go to the official AA forums and read the angry posts by the 10% who got their land and say they're going to quit (which they won't). It will be a good shot of schadenfreude.

All the other games are working perfectly with Glyph yet again AA seems to be the only thing that creates problem, is it some kind of divine sign for trion? is the universe telling them that publishing AA has been the biggest mistake for their company?

    What a mess.

While not a perfect solution, it is better than letting it ride like was done when Auroria was opened.

    • rollback was the best added feature ever, it's a shame they didn't had it at launch/headstart

These things happen irrespective of game and company. They've happened before and will again.

When they do, it's how the company deals with it.

    - Some companies attempt the brush under the carpet approach, head in the sand.
    - Others take a damage limitation approach with sticking plaster actions, but the problem is never really cleared up.

Roll backs are a serious issue, but they also reflect a serious response from the company.
In this case, the right thing to do.

Uughhh that community. "I want compensation because I just lost my advantage at acquiring land over other people via server problems!"

Trion will be doing a staggered start up of the servers to try and even the load of logins. The brand new servers will be online last. This is a disaster. Why? because now everyone with multiple accounts in both NA and EU will have ample opportunity to log into the merged/fresh start servers and claim what limited land there is.

This is so unfair, especially for those who will be at work when the servers are finally back up. The land will be snapped up and sold to any unfortunate stupid enough to pay for it with credits (APEX). Those credits will then be spent by mains on other servers and the new servers will be bled dry. There are already large guilds making plans for the land grab, so it's going to happen. The brand new fresh start servers are screwed before they begin. Brand new players have no chance against organized guilds and experience players when it comes to land grabs.

More mergers in 6 months guaranteed.

    Welcome to the real world.

Trion will make people like farbege angry, but he won't quit. Those 10% who got rolled back won't quit even though some of them will be claiming to do so in the forums. Trion will make a lot of people angry, but it won't matter because AA has found it's audience and they will stick with the game to the bitter end.

Is not going to work anyway if they dont really fix the issue, just saying.
Even NA / EU separate time wont help much, everyone at this time play in both regions, so ALL will loggin and crash again the autenticator server.

Agree 100%. Auroria not getting rolled back was something I disagreed with 100% - glad to see they didn't do a repeat of that.
As they have said the rollback this time was only possible because XLGames changed in code according to Trion's feedback and allowed it. If we really want to point finger at Trion then that would be for their idiotic decision of publishing AA.

To be fair, that's how everyone got land the first two rushes, so who can blame them for thinking 'land rush' equals login RNG?

Exactly, the last time it was not feasible. This time it is, so they are doing it.

Let's cut the bs shall we? Trion f'd the first launch up royally and destroyed the game in general, they do not get the benefit of the doubt here with this"happens to every company."

You got it wrong, you cannot lose something you never had. They did not lose an advantage, they were put at a disadvantage due to server issues. They have a right to be angry over it. Where do you people come from?

Agreed. I dont mind if they want to sell a game through glyph, just dont force the damn thing on players in order to play a game. Not sure which is worst anymore Uplay or Glyph... at least Uplay lets me trade achievement points for game addons (dlc) and wallpapers, etc regardless of platform.
