I just got the F2P beta key and have been playing it for a week. Its one of the first mmo's i've played where i just don't know how i feel about the game. I know that sound funny but its true. Its just another generic game to me and i don't know if i want to bother leveling in it or stick around playing. I can't put my finger on what it is about it that makes me feel this way. But its going F2P so maybe i'll login once in awhile.

I have feeling that the game will be extremely popular as F2P

It has very high production values since it was clearly made to rival WoW, but P2P today is very hard to justify for new games, so now that they moved to F2P tey will finally hit that sweet spot of interest.

Also the game had over a year of polish since release and many mistakes were unmade.

This will with no question be super hit.
I am not convinced, I think there are too many aspects that are a turn off for players, and highest on the list is the combat.

I think anything "free" is worth at least giving a try for yourself. Sure Wildstar isn't for everyone, but what game is? I plan on giving it another good go at the end of the month.

That is my problem with the game. I dabbled in the original beta, making sure not to do anything other than play the different classes to lvl 10-15, so as not to burn myself out before the game even launched.

At launch I was pumped. Took my time to do everything the game had to offer, and that is pretty hard to do with so much being thrown at you. Just as the lvl grind stated to set in, I hit Farside and it's low gravity. I must say that area was the MOST fun I have ever had leveling a character. It was enough of a boost to make me want to push through the last 10 levels to cap.

I had a good time crafting. I have never been a huge fan of housing, but all I can say about Wildstar housing is WOW (not the game, just shouting)! Even my 6 year old daughter would come to the computer and tell me what I should add to my housing plot when I was there. I enjoyed the dungeons and adventures during the leveling experience, and I was working my way through attunement for raiding. The daily quests were meh, but all daily quests seem like that to me.

Then, 3 months into the game, I just started skipping playing a night here or there. A few weeks later and I wasn't logging in at all. I don't really know what happened. I still liked the game. I still enjoyed playing when I did log in. It just didn't matter to me if I didn't log in.

I got a beta invite a few weeks ago, and I logged back in. Still like it. I like what I saw about how the game has changed as well as the changes coming with F2P. I think they are going about the free to play model in the right way. BUT, I still don't care. I just can't get excited about playing. And it's not just me; several people in my guild are the same way. There are just other games we would rather play. Go figure.

Yeah Splatter this sounds like me. And i'm playing the two classes i wanted to try and they are fun. But its just not pulling me in. The thought of leveling in this game tires me.

I think the P2P crowd is more vocal but the f2p crowd is much, much larger.

If they were smart they'd bring it to console. Not much F2P there and this game could work well on a controller.
Now Playing: Bless / Summoners War
Looking forward to: Crowfall / Lost Ark / Black Desert Mobile

I've had the same feeling about other mmo's of late.  I haven't tried Wildstar but have followed it even before alpha or beta.  It's always been one of those games that if/when it went b2p/f2p, I'd jump on it and give it a go.  Looking forward to the f2p launch, even it I'm only game for a week or so (sadly, most f2p mmo's this is all I can tolerate).

Good luck to you because i just uninstalled it. It just wasn't for me. Maybe i'm to old for the humor and just the silliness of the game. And i just don't find leveling in this game all that fun. I really hated the leveling up voice over crap too.

yep, because console mmos worked out sooo good so far :pleased:

@topic: yes, it is worth playing. i still dont know why it failed in the non f2p way, most likely because of a missing LFR tool ^^

I kinda game my reasons before, but I will gain: -

Here is my view on it: -

    Things I like: -

    • The cartoony style of the graphics and animations are fun and different.
    • There is a great housing system.
    • In addition the aesthetic systems for your character work quite well.
    • The first 20 levels or so took place in nicely designed zones and the early solo levelling experience had a fun and quirky feel to it.
    Things I dislike: -
    • The fact the cartoony graphics feel out of keeping with the "hardcore" theme, and incorporate a lot of attention-hungry text flashing on the screen and other annoyances.
    • Generic and derivative "!" hub questing, which feels ten years out of date. The quests are all fetch, kill and escort and there are too many of them... providing hundreds of the same thing does not equate to choice, and if you are a completionist who wishes to undertake all quests in a zone then your levelling progress will be hugely slowed as the vast majority of the quests are entirely redundant.
    • The quest pathing is messy and requires you to zig-zag across zones and tread old ground repeatedly.
    • Certain achievement quests will flash up on your screen unsolicited and then continuously flash progress meters and warnings at you as you wearily try to ignore them. This is incredibly irritating.
    • The horrible combat... starring at red blobs on the ground gets very old very fast. There is little variation in combat, and the combination of excessive concentration and tedious repetition makes the game feel more like a chore. I genuinely used to enter the game wanting to relax and leave feeling more exhausted. This is from someone who regularly spends long periods playing pvp shooters- so it is not a problem with action combat per se- it is a problem with the horrible combat design inthis game.
    • The zones I experienced from about 20-mid 30s were just uninspiring, which is a shame as the early zones were well designed.
    Things I didn't experience: -
    • Anything post mid-30s. The game had lost me by then. Some people have told me there are fun low-G zones further into the game but I cannot force myself through the horrible combat, uninspired questing and general attention-whoring to get there and find out.
    Conclusion

My experience of the game is that it was fundamentally unpleasant to play. When I wanted to spend my free time relaxing I was instead relentlessly assailed with flashing text and lights and sounds and tiring game mechanics. I would say that the veneer is good and the underlying mechanics are bad... but even the veneer gets very irritating very quickly.

As someone who was in closed beta and launch , but didnt subscribe :

    1. Performance is drastically improved. At launch I was having problem running the game with smooth framerate. At the moment ( F2P beta ) i am having the game run 80 FPS with everything maxed at ultra.

    2. There were drastic changes to everything in the game, including starting experience, menus, gui, quests .. etc

    3. They added mouse look gameplay. Its something that changes the game completely , and i couldnt understand why it was not present at launch.

    4. Money shop is very fair. Its not SWTOR everything is locked, more Tera like.

All in all I think the game will be uber hit as F2P.

It's worth it if you enjoy playing it. Don't base your decision to try it soley on what people say on these forums.

It helped to quickly/temporarily inject more cash into ZOS's pockets when they released ESO for Xbone and PS4.  Plus it allowed them to finally say they sold over a million copies, which they couldn't do with their PC sales.  ESO will most likely live longer now that it's on the console.  So basically, the console MMO in that case worked out.

From what I understand FF(insert roman numeral here) is doing well on consoles too, and they even charge a sub, yeh?  So a console release could possibly help out with money for Carbine just like ESO did for ZOS.  That said though, I really don't see how they could port WS over to consoles.  There are a lot of "moving parts" and systems that appear to take up a lot of database overhead in that game that probably isn't quite compatible with a console system.  That's just a guess on my part though.

By f2p I assume you mean free-to-buy; almost all games on console are "free to play".

NCSoft / Carbine would have to pay Sony and Microsoft of course - both company's invest in their platforms etc. and do so to make money after all - usually this is covered by a higher box price but if it is free-to-buy I would expect NCSoft to have to pay. And this would be on top of the conversion costs; costs they would have to commit to now when they probably don't know whether WS will be open next year.

I wonder how this will compare to guild wars 2? Man considering his is more old school leveling which I really enjoy by the way, lots to level up and many choices, I would probably have to stop playing guild wars 2 for a long time.

They basically added the lockdown addon mouse mode to allow you not to hold right mouse button to steer your toon.. Gw2 has the same issues that had to be worked around with a AHK script. There is nothing worse than having to hold a button down on the mouse while you try and use skills in a fast moving action game.

I think he means you don't need to hold the mouse button down to turn. It's like Elder Scrolls Online mouse turn.

I'll just give my honest opinion here. First of all i suggest to everyone to actually try the game because opinions are points of view, nothing else. I am not a fanboy of Wildstar, i just roam from mmo to mmo, trying them all, waiting for something to make me care enough to stay for a longer time.

    Housing.
Best housing system in an MMO to date.

    Graphics.
To each his own. I am old but i like the style. Sometimes it gets funny. I have played games that went with the realistic look and felt more like a silly game than this one does. At least Wildstar conforms to its genre with some humour.

    Combat.
Combat does have impact when you're playing a warrior or a stalker, they're melee classes, you can drop mobs on the ground or scratch them accordingly, just like most MMOs out there. But when i tried medic it was a flash show with nice sounds which i grew fond of. Hey ok, it's not Blade and Soul combat but i like it. Better than most mmos out there in my opinion. It actually needs you to play the game instead of watching a movie while playing the game.

    Quests and Grind.
Questing is a typical MMO questing system put in place instead of just grinding mobs to no end. Some people said this system is archaic, others said it's generic and others called it bland, ok then, where is the new system? Except The Secret World questing which is absolutely amazing but sometimes it also ends up just killing mobs 10/10 to complete a quest. Where is this new innovative system?

GW2? Go to the hearts and kill everything on sight
    BnS? Same stuff.
ESO? Fill up your quest log and kill everything on sight.
    Rift? Same questing patterns.
    Archeage? Look above ^.
Black Desert? From what i've seen the questing is same stuff. Oh and auto pathing, really?
EVE? Even Eve has the same pve questing, go kill stuff and then get rewarded.
Skyforge? Go kill stuff, kill the big boss, get rewarded at the end.
Age Of Conan? Was exactly the same as the rest, it didn't even have enough quests to reach cap.
DC Universe? Had story elements included in the quests but all the same underneath that layer.
Marvel Heroes? Kill the mobs in this area and repeat again and again and again and again.
Swtor? Saaaame. At least the story is great because you know, Bioware!

And don't forget in most of the above to do your dailies people, don't forget! Oh and i forgot to mention the so called events in all of them, a badass mob appears , go there and swarm it with the rest of the server.

I could name more MMOs but my point is obvious by now. Where is this new quest system you people have discovered and you consider all RPGs quest system generic? Maybe it's the exclamation mark above npcs heads that bothers you? Please point me to the right direction because i really can't seem to find the pioneers of questing in rpg.

    Classes and Races.
Typical class system but the classes are very different from each other. You can be a special snowflake in the game if you want to, i am not sure if it will go down in groups. Races are typical new mmo types, a bunny, an undead, a human, a gnome like creature. The robots are the most innovative to my eyes.

All in all, fun to play ( don't know for how long), not for everyone like all games out there. I think gamers nowadays we think too much and we forget to just enjoy the thing we are doing.

Mouselook and performance greatly improved.  My two biggest irritations with the game.  Great to hear, I will be giving it another try.

Great comic, we will see about the gameplay...As for the looks,  I'll worry more about it if I play so long my eyes start to bleed...
