@MikeB any official word on what you will or will not be doing about this?

@MikeB Could you give us an example of a situation when we should use Abuse flag instead of reporting the poster? The Spam flag is good for quickly reporting spam, but I can't think of any situation when I should just flag the post as abuse instead of going through the report -function.

EDIT: Or should we do so that first person reports the post, then others can add Abuse flags to it? That's about the only good use I can think of for the Abuse flags. /EDIT

The only problem with the flag button is showing the number of times it's been pressed and keeping a public record.

Look how ridiculous this flag is:

A classic report button is a no-brainer. It's up to the Mods to decide what is and what is not acceptable.

Edit: Maybe if a Mod finds a flag to be frivolous they should redirect an abuse point back to the flag-er.

I did read the post he was flagged for and it was not called for.

I find your comment here a bit difficult to believe as the actions here actions seem to have had a directly negative result. Bit of a mod edit rampage on that first page.

Beyond that, what Kyleran stated, I would have to point again to the thread in which Yasha quoted, as my response to Axe's comment was to form one of my own. I've regularly responded with as complete of commentary as I can since that furthers conversation and corrects misinformation considerably better than any down-vote or flag system can.

Personally, I wasn't a fan of keeping the abuse reaction and I'm more inclined to remove it. If a post is flagged "Abuse" by a certain number of users it will be hidden and placed into the moderator queue for review. This is useful if someone goes nuts on the forums and starts spamming all sorts of crap or posts something particularly egregious, since it gives you guys the power to do something about it immediately until the moderators can look over it. Of course, it can also be abused, which is why I wanted to get rid of it.

If you guys think we should disable it, I'll go ahead and do that.

Mike has said there would be no "down votes" and this is a direct counter to that. Posters really are abusing the abuse/spam flagging. Maybe warnings/bans should be given for it's misuse or have it removed.
If you get so worked up over what someone has to say and you can't help yourself but to result to nonsensical flagging, relentless arguing and thread clutter then it's probably best if you put that person on ignore. (It's on the bottom left of the poster's profile)

    @MikeB ;

Suggestion: Could you make it so that we can flag a post for spam, but that the flag won't show at all before at least two people have flagged the same post?

I think that the spam flag was good functionality even if I didn't like the abuse flag, and requiring two people to flag same post before any flag is shown would probably prevent most cases where it's misused.

EDIT: I think that would also require MMORPG.com mods to take action against those who misuse the spam flag, so that the number false flagging done for personal reasons would be kept low enough /EDIT

I can't. Just report the post as we did in the past and our moderators will take care of it!

Sometimes seem random what happens. Get a warning one time for a post while another time do and say the exact same thing and nothing happens. One time I said something about FFXIV being slow and there was a problem and another time I said it and it wasn't. Personally I'd do something like make the flag change colour or something if a post has already been flagged and leave it up to moderation.

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

Excellent and thank you Mr. B. Any chance on upping the amount of people you can put on ignore from the current measly five we have now?

Now a point of advice to some of the people who helped to bring about this entire kerfuffle. If you have an issue with a fellow poster, feel they are a bit smug or pedantic, or what have you, how about once you realize this you just use the ignore function instead of derailing a thread for several pages with your pointless ego driven bickering? Policing the forums to help prevent bad behavior should start with yourself, the person with whom you hold the most influence.

     Food for thought.
The ignore list capacity should be greater than 5. If it's not, I'll look into it.
  • mmoguy43mmoguy43 Member UncommonPosts: 2,770
It should be well over 5. I have had 20-30 on ignore before the forum update and they seem to have carried over without issue.

Or...you could put the people on ignore who pointlessly fight and bicker so you don't have to read what they are posting?

    Food for thought?
