Need new Phenom cooler

My old cooler for my CPU (Phenom II X6 1090T) just kinda gave up on me, allowing my CPU to reach 110C within 5 minutes after boot. I have removed it and put the VERY LOUD stock fan on the CPU and it seems to stay cool again.

But as said, the stock cooler is very loud and I'm looking for input on a good cooler to replace it with. The cooler also needs to be compatible with the more recent AM3+ CPUs (FM83x0 models) in case I need to replace my CPU later on.

    Can't you just replace the fan? What aftermarket cooler do you have?

    I was using the CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 EVO and it's close to impossible to order a new fan in The Netherlands. I've tried it before because it's the 2nd time the fan breaks down (1st time just within warranty and I had it replaced at the store). I've just looked at fans and found only 2 or 3 of the 92mm fans that this one supports and they start at €15 (half what I paid for the cooler to start with) and they have a couple of days delivery time (to the store that is, which is around the corner for me)

    I'm also wondering if I can just replace that noisy stock fan. The thing runs at 5500 RPM right now and keeps the CPU very cool (around 40C). That's a lot cooler than the TX3 EVO ever got the CPU in the past!

    The cooler supports just any standard 92mm fan. Do you say that there is no 92mm fan to find in Netherlands...? That is very hard to believe.

    i have the 9590 cpu in mine, which is the am3+ i think fitting, i went a bit overkill on cooling, but the one i am using now, the temperatures rarely exceed 50c and thats even running a torture test on the thing.

    Phry Think that's a bit too much overkill for me. My board doesn't even support 220W CPUs so the 8350/8370 would be the max for me.

    Perhaps I need to get the Corsair H60 liquid cooler, because I'm REALLY getting nuts of the noise that the stock fan produces. The big fan I have here for room cooling even makes less noise than that AMD stock one :lol: :unamused:

    No offense, but you just show again how stupid you are...

    Anyhow, I've been googling a bit for a replacement cooler and I see that the CoolerMaster EVO 212 is recommended a lot. I like the fact that it has a 120mm fan on it so it's easier to replace for me AND my local PC store has it on stock. Think I'll be off to grab that one as replacement.

    Problem solved. I went back to the store with the fan, asked if he had a spare 92mm fan there, but he didn't. Instead he opened a new TX3 EVO box, put my broken fan on it and gave me the new one (labeling the box as DOA :lol: ). That while I explained that the warranty of the thing had expired at least a year ago.

    Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Fans go out all the time, it's just as PC gamers, we usually upgrade our components before they get that old

    True, but this fan was just over 1 year old. Looking at the BIOS of my motherboard I think I found the problem. The board does support AMD's Cool & Quiet but the fan settings override these settings and it's the 1st time I've ever had that happen - NEVER AGAIN AN ASROCK BOARD FOR ME!

    Can't you disable Cool & Quiet and set the fans manually?  I have a Sabertooth 990FX and I was able to disable C&Q in the BIOS.

    Yes, the disable option is there, but even when it's enabled, the overall fan settings override it :unamused: The options are:

    1. C&Q -> Enable / Disable
    2. CPU fans -> Automatic / Full On
    When CPU fans on Automatic I get 2 sub menus.
     One with speed options 1 through 9 (1 being slowest, 9 being full out).
     The other with target temperature (55C through 65C)

    The Automatic CPU fans option does somewhat relate to C&Q but it's not overly working well and not before long the fans run on the maximum for the level, even when the target temperature is not reached by a long shot.

    I figured it might be a BIOS bug and have updated to the latest version but it's still working the same. I'm so sorry I didn't stick with ASUS as board...

    The Phenom's cooler is one of the best stock coolers. But I can see why you might not like it. The x6 ones run hot, so loud fan.
    As someone with a Corsair H80i, the fans run loud. If you want to use one, I recommend replacing the fan. You can find a good fan to use by looking at the reviews on Newegg.

    I had one of those in my last computer, used a Corsair H70 to keep it cool. A very cheap closed liquid system with very little noice and good performance.

    Only bad point is the small radiator, I had mine outside the box.
