First off, yeah, you're being "spied" on right now. There's no avoiding that. Everything you do in your browser or phone gets transmitted. That doesn't mean that they're spying on you, specifically, but rather that they're collecting data. That's how the world goes.

Now, if you thing for one moment that there won't be a way to block those automatic updates, then you know nothing, Jon Snow. I doubt it'll take more than a week for someone to post a registry fix or some software that prevents Windows from doing that. Just like you can have the old Windows taskbar on Windows 8. There's always a way...

And if you're really, really paranoid, then go to the TOR network. Then all your info will be sent to some unknown entity instead of the people who actually work for the services you use.

The problem with TOR and encryption, is that it also tends to make you into a target.

Just by using TOR you are suggesting you have something to hide.  There are many people who do have something to hide who use TOR, you don't want to be associated with them.

Intelligence agencies don't care what you write on MMORPG.COM, but they care a lot about what happens on the TOR network, even if they can't trace every communication to its source, you are being watched if you use TOR.

If you start sending encrypted messages over the TOR network, you are making a prime target out of yourself for intelligence agencies, even if it's merely a message to your mom about dinner last night, the fact you're using TOR sends off alarm bells.

TOR is no longer secure anyway. It's widely known that it's been compromised by the NSA at this point. People who really want to stay anonymous and know what they're doing are turning to other methods.

What I want to know is if I wipe my computer after doing the upgrade is if I can somehow do a full reinstall of it.  I hate upgrading over previous operating systems and prefer to do a fresh install.

Unless you buy a DVD / USB stick with Windows 10 on it, no, because you need a physical storage device to boot from, and I doubt Microsoft will make an ISO available.

But I think it's likely you'll get the option to upgrade and do a "clean installation" that wipes your previous OS, this is the case in all the previous Windows versions.

Windows always offered you the option during installation, to keep your previous settings / programs, or wipe everything. I'm sure it will be the same with Windows 10.

So if all you want is a clean installation, keep your current OS and just wait until release, I'm sure there will be an option to do a clean installation when you upgrade.

If you are someone who wipes their OS every 2 months and does a clean Windows install, consider shelling out $99 to get Windows 10 on a USB stick. Or alternatively, use your Windows 7 / 8 DVD.

    So...what is your alternative then?

-Using Linux -which is notorious for getting to fk with Wine etc after every minor game patch. If you get a game working well at all. The fact that normal users can't get DirectX games to run on Linux is the main reason 99% isn't using it. (Would love if they could fix this 'minor'  issue though)

-Use Mac OS:  mwhahahaha, congratulations you just purchased a 3x normal price hype machine

-Use the fail Windows 8- mwhahahahaa.....

-Keep using W7- when the support dies out anytime soon.

Nah, I don't get that crazy about it.  Normally I want to do a clean install for the first time I install a new OS or if I significantly change my hardware profile.  (usually only every couple years or so)

I did just find a site stating that there will be digital media available, but only for the hardware profile that's captured as of the upgrade.  So in my scenario above if I decide to upgraded my motherboard/cpu I'm going to have to buy the retail release which'll allow me to re-register it as many times as I want, as I've been able to do with Windows 7.  Maybe this works a bit differently on the newer OS's though since no manual registration is required anymore.  I've reinstalled/re-confirmed my registration through the automatic Microsoft thing for Windows 7 at least a handful of times by now and it's always re-registered without a hitch.

It's clear that the majority of avarage joes here(i think 99% don't have clue what windows 10 will do with WU)this include the regualr posters that even on many occasions help many here with problems which is good.

But that you guys are so ignorant and just accept what MS shove up yours is unbalievable.

Lack of knowledge or the replyes that think how or what im doing is even more mind boggeling sad.

But hey do whatever you think is right for you and everybody else(this is why most time these days internet users are bad saying what others should do and defend big companies) i think you regualar helpers here in this topic earning money by supporting MS thats why you on denial.

It don't matter this topic was ment for healthy discussin and little warning what WINDOWS 10 will become with windows update.

But as i already knew upfront it's imposible and sadly most of you dunno what your talking about.

Have nice day all see yah in windows 10 hell in few days.

The Insider Preview right now is available in an .ISO

Digital upgrades for Windows 8 and 8.1 were available in an .ISO, although you did have to go through an Advanced menu in the Download Updater to access it, otherwise it just did an in-place upgrade.

There are TechNet .ISO downloads for just about every edition of Windows for people who have access to them.

I won't go so far as to say that Windows 10 has to follow a well-established pattern, I'm just pointing out there is a well-established pattern here.

I suggest you start reading agreements for the programs you install before you cry about Windows 10. They are doing what 99% of the companies out there do with their software. Calling us ignorant when you dont seem to grasp this basic fact makes me giggle. While I do agree some updated should be forced, I think others should not. Fact is as an IT guy, I cant count how many times I have had to fix someones OS or format and reinstall just because they didnt do the updates. IMO only update that should not be forced is drivers. As often you need to change that to support the hardware and software you use. This problem is moot. Someone started freeking out and like the web it catches on like fire before people know the facts. If all your worried about is MS knowing your shit on your PC, if it came from the web %99.99999 of that has already been tracked by a dozen different places when you went online. If you think MS is going into your doc you made on your PC again, this is not the case. Remember, once you connect your PC to the internet, anyone can buy your info on where you went and what you do.

I feel very sorry for you - it must be difficult being so very right in such a vast sea of wrong.

Maybe you will be right, and be the last person laughing. Stranger things have happened, and OS upgrades typically have some rough spots once they hit mass distribution.

But having MS spy on my desktop and give me automatic updates, especially when I've been using their updates automatically now already for years - yeah, that part I'm just not that worried about.

There are two parables I can think of that could come to play out here: unfortunately for you, history has had a lot more Chicken Littles than there have been actual Cassandras.

You are an absolute nutcase and there is nothing no one can do to convince you otherwise.  No one gives a shit what you do, data collection is just an average of random nameless data.  You start talking terrorism or illegal shit you are going to have people watch you behind closed lines but if you are just a everyday user no one is going to bat a fuckin eye.

For Microsoft to force updates down people throats is a very good fuckin thing!  Work in IT once and try to deal with some of the useless piles of dirt that are on this planet that don't update shit and bitch when they have a problem or someone "hacked" them or a website looks like shit in IE7......  It eliminates that completely!  Praise the god damn spaghetti monster and his noodly appendages this is finally happening!

Microsoft allows us to download Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 installation media from their website and transfer it to USB stick for clean re-installs. It's very likely that they'll also put Windows 10 up for download similarly.

We might have to wait a bit after official release though, because they can't have enough bandwidth to offer the download for everyone on day 1.

Last I heard that was just for home users, so I take it they've changed things?

Haven't ms been trying to get into data mining for a while now?(since it's a big thing with google, valve etc.)  So not really a big suprise.

Also don't forget this is likely to include adware(with the current nagware being seen as a test) aswell as any spyware and there's nothing to stop them selling that add space on your devices to other companies.

As for those saying this is just a security thing, why is it that it's all updates that are automatic not just security updates and do you really think that the additional revenue streams that'll come with this weren't part of the consideration?

this thread is a headache lol.. spying on us. lol give me a break. your like my father and mother that were scared because i wanted to use my credit card on the internet.. lol get real.  you know there are around a billion ppl using the internet at any given time.. no-ones spying, not like you think. embarrassing that you have allowed your mind to accept the things that arent feasible.

you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning than microsoft spying, and creating a problem for you because of this "spying"

its actually not cool if you disagree with me.
