Winner.
First "good" mmo that I have played for any time that was ruined by the business model, and the mechanics they put in there to force people to use the cash shop, than being a lousy game in itself.
I would say it is too bad, but it isn't really, they did it to themselves through greed.
Originally posted by drakaena Never played this game again after Korean Beta 2-3. At that time it was one of the best sandbox MMOs I've ever experienced. Unfortunate to see what it has become - even if predictable. I blame Jake Song. My only question wrt AA is has the siege system ever been addressed/fixed?
AA was never a sandbox game, it has some free roaming features mixed in with themepark. Sandbox is Wurm Online and atitd but not AA.
That's not me saying the game is no good because it is.
The complete lack of game provided goals for the trade pack system is very much sandbox. No direction provided by the devs, player motivation is only thing steering the car.
Again AA is not a sandbox game.
There are no sandbox games and there are no themepark games. Show us the definition that is written in stone.
Of course there are definitions out there but no one agrees on them.
Pointless argument.

The thing is, right now even Trion realize that bringing AA under their name was a big mistake. The game is filled with bad coding when it comes to security and the security software that is provided with the game does nothing since the network structure is completely different in US/EU as someone has already pointed out. Trion has no say as to how XLGames develop their game and it is showing up badly for Trion. i think trion at this moment can abandon ship, hand over the deal to Aeria Games or some other company who are adept at handling crappy eastern games along with pay2win cash shop. A niche PvP game with so much bad press is really hurting them.
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
Anyone saying it's not pay to win, doesn't understand the crafting system, its relationship to the cash shop and to gear progression which means everything in PvP. This game is an ultimate example of pay to win. Anyone who says otherwise is not fully educated on the topic and/or the specifics of the game.
Another thing, and this isn't just directed at the OP...
Just because you don't pay to win within a game, doesn't mean the option isn't there. So sick of the ignorant perspective being spouted "I don't pay to win in this game, even though I could, therefor the game is not pay to win"
If only I could find that video of that Asian guy, showing the difference between gear that was obtained with real currency and the stuff he earned in the game. He would get wrecked in pvp in self-earned, then swap over his gear to the stuff he bought and wrecked havoc everytime. All while spouting show me your wallet lol, was kind of a funny video. Anyhow, I just don't like the game because of monetization they got going with the game.
@savagehorizon AA had a vastly different ruleset in K/Beta 2-3. It was very much a sandbox game. To what degree is debatable and subjective to opinion but it hardly resembled what AA is described as today - or post Korean beta 3. Things started changing for the worse during beta 4. But then again this was like 4 or 5 years ago now.

Winner winner chicken dinner.
Even that crafting and the store go hand in hand it still doesn't mean that you cannot achieve everything by just playing the game. If we have to follow the logic of P2W by your terms. We should not be playing any game. As many mmo's offers ways to get an advantage on people is it based on currency or crafting, ....
I am not saying that you are wrong that that it is not P2W, I am just saying that we can get all those things as well by just playing. If we have to look at every game that has a cash shop the moment they allow you to buy currency or get ingame currency by spending money in the store we would have a P2W situation.
Even having an XP advantage would then mean P2W. My point is even that you mention crafting and again you are not wrong, the game gets a lot more thrown to its head then it should.
Swtor, lotro, ddo, even Wow, .... would then be considered P2W yet nobody says anything about it.
To make it clear to Viper482 again, I am not telling anyone that you HAVE to play it or HAVE to try it. I just am of opinion that if people would enjoy a game where they have to work there *ss off to get stuff and want something to play and form their own opinion then I think ArcheAge is a great game. Maybe it will teach people what kind of games they should ignore in the future, others might not mind that much

Viper was just agreeing with my comment.
Just because YOU don't pay to win, doesn't mean it's not pay to win. Pretty sick of having to say this.
Working my ass off to earn goals is what I'm enjoying about Skyforge.
It it is not enjoyable to work your ass off to earn things when you are DIRECTLY pitted against foes who have geared up using their CC. This is what happens in open world PvP. In comparison it is a non issue in games where the PvP is instanced and the matchmaking system accounts for gear.

Time out dude. Most of us "haters" are people who paid $150 for this game. We WANTED to love the game, most of us DID love the game until Trion/XL made some of the most stupid, greedy decisions in the history of MMOs, not to mention the incompetence with the hacking issues. We have valid reasons for leaving the game and for having disdain for it, you calling us haters is straight up bullspit.
I will tell you right now if they opened a server that was a mirror of the game at the end of beta with no cash shop (or a modest one with no p2w) and delayed Hasla weps for when they should come out instead of a couple months.....I would play this game again in a heartbeat.
And when you use "to" in this context it is "too." Since you want to be "that" way I can play too.
They never fixed the folder redirection issue. So for me, not worth the constant registry tampering to play it. When I did play it after launch, I was not very impressed. If they ever get around to fixing the launcher to support Documents folder redirect, I'll give it a shot, but seeing as how it's still not fixed I will not be holding my breath,
I didn't mind the P2W aspect that much. I just don't play it as it is one of the absolute worst PvE games I've ever played. Bad questing, bad loot, craptastic mobs etc...

I agree. I truly loved this game and played it everyday for months. I stopped playing when they sold the TS trees and saw how P2W it was. I am only posting to warn everyone else.
this game is worse than what most people know - get a grip - it's all about making that money and the business model being used by trion along side with the lack of ethics is becoming the industry standard . imo black desert is the same pig with different makeup - even many of the players behind the scenes are the same "human beings".. learn to read between the lines and look beneath the surface - don't be fooled

Yea, the OP tries to make it sound like people complaining about the cash shop being pay to win is holding this game back when in reality that's a very very small part of it. The game is bad design decision after bad design decision piled on top of a at best aggressive cash shop. The game could be 100% free with no cash shop at all and it wouldn't have more than a few thousand additional players than it does today. There is just nothing in this game to hold onto the attention span of your average western game player. Not that I'm sure anything can do that anymore but this game certainly won't.

Please show me in the EU/US version of the game where I can buy gear with real money in the store that has stats and makes me stronger

LMAO! Yeah right. Nothing further.
I'd settle for just being able to play. On 2 different occassions I downloaded the game, installed and ... nothing.
Won't even launch. I checked for solutions, tried them, still ... nothing.
I'm sorry, not sorry, but I'm glad I didn't go to sleep before reading this post. I laughed so hard you deserved to know how much I appreciated it.
That was the best laugh I had today! :P thx for that I confess I bought a donkey in the store which was super cute btw!
When opening the mail my game crashed and I had to log a ticket (which took 2 days) to get resolved to get my donkey

+1
I purchased two founders packs at $150 each. I played from the moment alpha was available to everyone, through launch.
just wanted to add my credentials to the thread as well so I'm not dismissed as a "hater"
