Exactly .. i highly doubt superdata, reviewers and websites will stop calling non-massively games MMOs.

MMO sites need to drive traffic to survive.

Just because the game is on a MMO site, or talked about for traffic, doesnt mean its a MMO..

I think if the new Witcher had online content, Nari would be calling that a MMO. :)

I would say it's 0% of the MMO category and 100% of the MOBA category... but that's just me.

Try play Smite, its the only Moba that i enjoy playing, the other ones ive tried just feel slow and boring and look kinda crappy.

Watch this video if you want to see in which ways Smite differs from typical mobas

If it did, and it supported enough players, it would probably be a wow killer image

Same; although I also play Supernova because I want something fresh other then starcraft. I'm also bandai namcos fanboi .But it's too early in Alpha to suggest that game to people, before they shittalk it down because 'x' bug happened xD.

That camera behind player makes me feel like i'm in control. Controlling movement is key part of my gameplay ever since I played fighter games.

I've played enough RTS' through the years to not be excited about most MOBA, haha. (got boring)

Think of the word "massiveLY" as your appendix .. it is just there with no function and not very relevant. It just hangs there for legacy reasons.

I fear that your knowledge of the appendix hasn't kept up with modern research.   It pretty much undercuts your point.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Don't ask me .. i am just the messenger relaying how mmo sites, reviewers, and industry research firms defined the category.

But if I find reviewers, or websites classifying as such, you will be the first to know.

and on that note ... i believe the word "massively" is going to be used, by THIS site,  to describe the follow up games of World of Tanks .. such as world of warplanes and world of war ships. Specifically .. the label is MMOTPS .. a subgenre of MMO and i believe the first M of MMOTPS is "massively".

No. It's not just him. Read through your thread. Very few agree with this nonsense.

It is subjective, for the new gamers a MOBA game may well seem massive, for those who have played DAOC, AC, UO etc that's laughable. But for those new gamers who have played games like PS2 and Minecraft it will seem a bit silly too.

now .. we agree. If "massively" is subjective .. then all we are talking about here is the opinion of the masses.

If reviewers, sites like this, and analytics firm all have the SUBJECTIVE opinion that MOBAs are "massive" enough .. and many use it as such .. it becomes the norm.

    Neither am I convinced. :)

What I am getting at is we each have are own view of what massive means, there is no norm. There is no industry accepted usage, because even different areas of the industry do not agree.

So we need different terms like MOBA so people have a handle on what the game is. For some that M in MOBA stands for massive for others it does not. But for all of us we know what type of game it is in our own minds. That's why terms like MOBA and MMOFPs are important. We do not agree on what they mean, but we see them and immediately think, "oh its that genre".

that is the beauty of common usage .. .no one needs to be "convinced" of anything.

But think about this ... when superdata is talking about MMO, when reviewers is talking about world of warship as a MMO, you know EXACTLY what they mean.

You may be shaking your head ... but there is no problem with the communications. Moreover, the fact that you know exactly what they means and shake you head .. means that you are already using, abate grudgingly, the broadened definition of MMO.

"massively" is just going to be marginallized, irrelevant, and given many here have been trying to reverse the tide for the last few years with zero success (at least to superdata), i highly doubt the world is going to reverse back to what it was 15 years ago.

You are wasting your time. These are the same people who argue over the term "sandbox," which clearly has a common usage meaning that doesn't agree with their idea of what it should mean.

Chit chatting, discussing, exchanging of opinions, conversing, etc etc.....Isn't is what forums are about?  We can call it whatever we want but that's basically what we're doing.  He's not wrong, you're basically doing it by responding to him.

    Dear Sir,

I must object to your use of the term "lol". What does this mean, lots of laughs, lots of love or lots of something else? I think it is incumbent upon authors on forums these days to specify exactly what they mean with such abbreviations. One would not want to be misconstrued and think a "laugh" was a "love" now would one?
