and what are some things that new players should know

so their transition into this game as a New player can be more smooth?

and what are some things that new players should know~ Focus on max of two Crafting professions. I.E. as a DK plate wearer Blacksmithing & Woodworking maybe, That way you can craft your own weapons, armor & shield/bows/staff as you level.  And will allow you to upgrade armor & weapon drops. I.e. a green con piece drops you can upgrade it to blue or even epic if you have the mats.

Join trade guilds early on. Use them to sell the crafting materials you pick  up but dont use.  This is an easy way to make money while you level.  I made plenty of money for backpack upgrades, bank upgrades, ect. by selling items ( mainly crafting materials) on the guild stores. It may be 25g at a time for a common Rune, or stack of iron, but it worked for me.

For myself leveling as a NB I focused on Bow to start  and resto staff at level 15 for my 2nd weapon. Until I was strong enough and had learned the game enough the swap to resto staff for heals was nice.

Clear each zone of Skyshards before you move on. Even if it means using an Addon for the locations. These extra skill points make your low level character much stronger overall.

Do the Public Dungeons and Group Dungeons in each zone as you level. That is 4 skill points ( if you do all 3 group dungeons) and easy armor / weapon upgrades. Finding a group may be a pain in the ass at times, but even if you have to spam /zone a little it is worth it.

so their transition into this game as a New player can be more smooth?

Does it have a trial? ~  No trial that I am aware of. But by now there should be enough video footage, articles and opinions from people that you can make a good guess as to if you will like it.

Don't be scared to die... I do ALL the time

Get add-ons for Skyshards, Lore Books at least... download the Minion client to download, organize and update your add-ons.

Join a BIG trade guild that chats a lot.  That way you don't have to join a bunch of guilds.  The big ones make it more mmo'y, social and fun, plus they are like your Auction House... I have been selling stuff like CRAZEEEE the past 2 months.

    Have Fun!

    Couple ideas:

Join 5 busy guilds, but pick one as you main privately and invest time to get to know people.

Gather and craft all or most professions while you level.

Don't get addons for sky shards, infinitely more satisfying when you find one, you can allways come back in a few months.

Level uP banks and bags/horse carry ASAP for qol.

Don't worry about optimal builds/meta builds etc, just gave fun picking skills you fancy in way and evolve- you can change skills at any time.

Mix it up, do instances,, quests, crafting as you fancy. There is about 400 hours of questing and many lines give skill points as rewards, so again don't research this and it makes questing more rewarding.

Don't worry about falling behind, the champion points have diminishing returns so you will catch up eventually.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

Take your time and explore.  You can get the weapon you're looking for during the tutorial if you farm stuff for awhile, the loot tables get better the longer you stay in an area.  Don't skip the starter areas cause there are skyshards there.  You can do the lower quests in the starter city (they are closer together) first and then go to the starter areas if you want.

Keep an eye on your compass when riding down a road.  There are a lot of quests that will popup just because you got close to them.  Add-ons are great for finding skyshards and lorebooks.

    1. There is no ability clicking. Get used to using the finger on your left hand more or better yet, get a mouse with more buttons.

    2. Block... dodge... interrupt... CC break, are your friends. Learn to use them and use them often.

    3. Inventory is limited but there are a lot of travelling merchants - use them to unload your junk. I find 90 bag slots to be plenty.

    4. If you have crafting alts, get the "Research Assistant" add-on to keep track of which traits you need to research still. Vendor all the other whites and send the greens and higher to the right alt (via the bank) for them to research or deconstruct... they get more out of it than you would by deconstructing it on the wrong character.

    5. Download and use "Minion" the add-on manager. It auto-updates and installs your add-ons and lets you easily browse what's available by category.

    6. Yes you can PVP and run dungeons at level 10, but level 15 when you unlock your 2nd weapon (which can be the same as the 1st weapon) is better since now you have 10 skills and 2 ultimates instead of 5 and 1.

    7. The more abilities from a specific skill line you have on the active hot-bar when you turn in a quest, the faster that skill line levels up.

    a. You can take advantage of an add-on such as "SWAPS" to quickly swap to an alternate leveling hot-bar custom tailored to the things you want to level faster to use just for turning in quests. And then quickly swap back to the one you use.

    b. When you first start playing look at your 3 class ultimates and decide which you want to get first. Then use 2 skills from that skill line on your bar to get access to that ultimate faster (you should have it around level 6 or 7.) Your other 3 skills should be 1 from each of your 2 other class skill lines and one from your weapon. After you unlock that ultimate, use what you wish how you wish (subject to "a" above)

    8. Definitely do the starter islands so you can learn the systems and pick up the skyshards there. There will also be lots of chests to find and pick which will help you with gearing up - especially if this is your first ever character.

    9. Harvest everything you run across and put what you don't need in your bank. You'll want it later.

    10. Alchemy, Enchanting and Provisioning are inventory and bank slot hogs. Better to create an alt or two for those skills early and feed him all recipes and mats through the bank that he can keep in his inventory and use. Offload that junk from your bank ASAP. There is no maiing to alts. You'll need empty bank slots to send items and mats to them.

    11. Jewels needed to craft items with traits also take up a lot of bank space. Try to keep those also in the bags of the right alt(s.)

Many more but now I have to do some work :)

The very first thing you should do in these types of games is determine which class/race combination is overpowered.  Once this has been determined create that class/race combination and try and enjoy your time.

:gasp:  your #11 definitely needs work -

leave the jewels in your bank so that ALL your toons can use them to craft.  mats can be in the bank while you are crafting.

I won't ALWAYS be here for you!

You already know it doesn't have a trial... shall we quote your response in the other ESO threads?

Following the main story quest through a zone will net you three skill points.  These are the only quests that award skill points aside from the mages guild story arch.  If you aren't that into questing don't worry about skipping side quests.

I do all my crafting that needs those jewels on the one alt... also maximizes the use of style books - don't need duplicates. She is a hard working alt, that little Templar Vampire :)

crafting is very useful, way better than the trash loot you would get from mobs and quests.  Plus you can have the appearance you want too.

Learn about racial skills before creating your character
  • yaminsuxyaminsux Member UncommonPosts: 973

Rule #1, dont expect Skyrim Online.

Rule #2, dont expect pre-order bonus for you (aka all races for all alliance)

Rule #3, anyone can heal, provided they have points in healing staff (handy for party forming)

    Rule #4, have fun.
