I started playing a game called Nevergrind recently. It's like Everquest and Diablo came together and had some delightfully twisted offspring. At first it was meh, but then when the difficulty ramped up I couldn't stop playing since it's been awhile that a game has been this challenging and fun. You can play it at Nevergrind.com, and it plays in your browser since it's coded smoothly from HTML5.

Already level 80 on my Ogre Warrior, there's over a dozen races and classes. The races also have pretty defining racials and base stats, coupled with a few ways to play each class. There's a lot of variety, and it's always being updated. The dev is also a pretty stand up guy.

If you like the game, the dev has a kickstarter running. He's not asking for much, which is pretty cool. It's also a lot more than some terrible bare-bones concept.

Hey, Nuhaine, thanks for the plug! If you loved classic Everquest, I definitely think this game will appeal to you. Plus it offers the convenience of playing in a web browser. On April 20th I will make server accounts available to the general public which will allow you to play your characters on any device as opposed to your characters being stuck inside of a single browser on a single computer.

I also have plans to expand the social environment by enabling chat, item trading, and sharing player profiles, so I think Nevergrind's brightest days are soon to come. Definitely check it out and let me know what you think. If you like what you see, consider backing our Kickstarter campaign as well. We're doing well so far, but there's no guarantee that we will achieve our funding goals.

saw this thread the other day, been playing it quite a bit.  Some classes I am sure get stronger as they go up, but they are hard as hell early on.

the find rare mob skill the rangers have has found me exactly 1 rare mob in 14 levels, I started with that char for that skill, to get better gear

Shadowknight is super OP imo early on, didnt even come close to dieing at all up to 13

The healing classes need some love

overall though its really fun time sink

This is utter filth.  Somehow you've condensed the least enjoyable parts of an online game into a repetitive eye-bleed.

I lasted about ten minutes. The backgrounds are nice and I had a pet named xenocab. Those were the high points. 1980's era me would have loved this game.

Skinner Box the game, boiled down to the essentials.
