SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

In a surprise move, Zenimax has announced that Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimted, the 'buy to play' version of the game, is now live nearly a day earlier than anticipated. The word is out that the North American megaserver IS online and players can begin updating their clients in order to log in to check out the big changes that the update brings.

OVERVIEW

We’re excited to introduce The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited! If you previously purchased ESO, your characters are ready to continue the adventure right now. And if you’re currently subscribed, you’ve automatically become a member of ESO Plus, our new premium membership!

We also have a number of fixes included in this patch including resolutions for the remaining issues with Enlightenment, random UI error messages, and more. Be sure to check out the full list of fixes below. This patch will be approximately 1-2GB in size.

We’re thrilled to begin this new chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online. Welcome to Tamriel Unlimited!

Among the big things players will find is the new Crown Shop with items that include:

  • customization options

  • new pets

  • new mounts

  • costumes

  • consumables

  • various item bundles

There are some issues that the patch notes reveal that players should be aware of so be sure to swing by the Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited site to check them out while your client updates.

Let us know what you think of the changes in this forum thread.

Thanks anonymous user for the tip! We deeply appreciate it!

Whilst the EU megaserver is not going offline until 2am on the 17th I think Zenimax should be praised for doing it this way; namely not taking the megaserver down in prime EU time. Kudos.

If this hits a $20 price point it may be time for me to check it out. I played a bit in open beta and ... wasn't driven to make a Day 1 purchase. But I like the B2P model, and it may be worth taking another look at now that it's a year or so in and has time to make a lot of refinements.

It's still $60 on Steam (only place I checked), and that's still a bit steep for me to jump in.

Yeah, yeah, it's a good value, but I have a lot of decent games on my plate right now and it's more a matter of time to spend with them than money to spend on them.

I snagged it from Gamesrocket a few weeks ago for $17 and couldn't be happier. I've really enjoyed it so far, although I'm kinda worried going b2p is ruin it, but we'll see.

[EDIT] I grabbed an explorer's pack key from one of those russian key sites for like $2. Great deal.

Hopefully you didn't delete all your characters like some players do.  :-)

Its really cool that they did this. And it was a really quick update. First thing i did was buy a mount and pet with my earned crowns.  Since i play as a redguard i got the the dog pet that they favor. And i was going to get  a guar mount but after seeing how silly they look riding on i just got a horse. Man they really look silly riding on. They should have made them a pack pet like in the other games.

Euro here, trying when it goes F2P here, just hoping -but expecting otherwise- I won't get any annoying add popups when logging in.

The game certainly feels like a far more complete mmo ... and should considering this is their actual release date after nearly a year of paid beta.

without the snarkyness-i agree,  it feels alot  more fluid-and alot closer to skyrim gameplay.

which should get alot of fanbois to play.

and you cant beat the b2p. hoping wildstar follows ESOs footsteps, as that game also is feeling complete!

There is no snarky-ness implied. It very much was a paid beta. ZOS simply did not package it as such. Core systems were not completed. B2p was ALWAYS the plan because interviews up to a year ago clearly stated the impossibility of a sub on console due to MS and Sony restrictions to their own business models. Many models including armor were place holders. Final textures for many items were not in game. Stock and poor animations that exists since alpha and early beta existed. The intro wasn't even completed when the pc launched. The list goes on and on.

Observable facts devoid of hype ... unofficial paid beta.

    You stay sassy!

Last year I grabbed the IE but didn't play long. Been patching weekly though so this weekend I'll drop in with a new character just to see how ESO has grown since I was last in Tamriel. The b2p model with their Crown Shop should work out well for Zenimax and fans who were opposed to the subscription cost. Mounts & Pets for sale are always popular and I always end up buying something in a cash shop eventually but never "consumables" no matter how much XP it promises to boost me I see it as a waste.
