hi all!
I'm a newbie to mmorpg's so I don't know if this is a dumb question or not but anyways, I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for games that play well on a dial-up internet connection?
I've only tried ragnarok and it plays okay on dial-up, do games like DAoC, Asherons Call, WWII or Anarchy run as smoothly on a narrowband connection?

I use cable, but from what I understand the majority of any mmorpg is already loaded on the player side, and the server just sends the players computer locations of other players, locations of monsters and and actions of players etc. The zones/maps and textures are already loaded onto your computer. So in theory any dial up service should do the trick, so long as it is not a game that requires fast reflexes, because anything with really fast movements of mobs/players etc will require lots of server updates which will eat up your minor bandwidth. So Unreal2K3, Quake3, etc type games will not run very well and you will be fraged before you see your oponent, but mmorpg type games should work fine. I would not recommend planetside on dialup. The closer to round/turn based combat that you can get, the better.

Ugg, ok. I live in the desert where there is no other option but dail-up and satalite. AC does NOT play well on dial-up.. it's fine if you never go into a town with more than 10 people, but once you get around alot of people you lag like crazy. DAoC I could play all day with little to no lag unless I was in the middle of a HUGE realm war. Example, With DAoC I would not lag until I got around 200+ people. I could run with a Group of Realmmates up to 150 people with no problems.
Whatever you do, make sure you have a top of the line graphics card and alot of system memory. This makes a huge gameplay difference in MMORPG's. Oh, and um, have fun.
