Blizzard announced today that the sale of its charity pet, "Argi" the Space Goat, has earned $1.9M for ebola relief in Africa through the Red Cross. The charity pets were sold in the World of Warcraft item shop, with 100% of the price going to support the Red Cross efforts in Africa.
Congratulations to World of Warcraft players and to Blizzard for making a difference in the world.

Awesome jobs Blizz. I'm sure the ones in need will be grateful.
100% to charity, that's the way to do it, well done blizzard for that.
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar
Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D
I tend to agree,i used to give a LOT of money to various charities and even the police force,i stopped them all because i just got wiser to real life.
The only bright side is that at least we hope SOME of the money makes it into to good hands.Example we know doctors have already been going there,i have watched several shows, videos on it and many are doing it of good will. However when we hear of millions coming in from every corner do we hear about MANY more doctors, millions more in medicine heading that way?
The media circle is HUGE,if this money was actually reinforcing and improving the situation we would definitely hear about it.The only media attention we hear is from the ones getting all this money.
If you watch all the shows and videos we see small straw huts or cheap looking buildings, just Blizzard's contribution could go along way to building some nice facilities.
In the end you know who benefits from suffering?Pharmaceuticals
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Wildstar is busy trying to rename their game to "Africa: pls send moniez"
But to those who act like Red Cross keeps most of the money . . . you guys do know google exists right? A quick search shows that their fundraising efficiency is $0.16 which means it costs them 16 cents to raise $1 and that 90.4% of their proceeds go to their charitable efforts.
That's not bad and it's a far cry from some of the replies in this thread.
Aloha Mr Hand !
Yes google exists and you should look up what they tried to pull way back on 9/11.

It's nice to see that Blizzard does these on a regular basis.
ALl the negative comments about the Red Cross, go and find something else to do. We don't need your conspiracy theories.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
I wonder how many people cared about the charity vs just wanted the goat.

Red Cross is not my favorite, but they are not the worst either. Here's an independent analysis of their finances.
http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3277#.VNxaWi6ibCc
About 90% of their resources goes towards their mission, which while not the top, is still very respectable. Susan G. Komen for the Cure, for instance, only attributes 82% of their resources to their mission.
It's always a good idea to research a charity before giving them money. Many charities have less than 75% rating, some as low as 50%. At the point, the charity isn't set up to benefit anyone but the people who set it up.
This story isn't about the Red Cross, though, it's about Blizzard. Despite the high number of games with cash shops with pets and other fluff, I'm aware of only Blizzard making this effort. And this is not the first time they have done it. It says something about Blizzard.
Kudos, Blizzard. Once again, you set a standard.
Of course there is but imagine the hue and cry if they left the money in the US:
1) Blizzard only cares about its own country
2) So much need everywhere else in the world
But Blizzard isn't about one nation, it's about a worldwide community of gamers, probably more than a few in Africa. Ebola is a horrific disease and the fact that they gave nearly TWO MILLION dollars to the Red Cross to expand preventative treatment and to ease the suffering of the affected speaks volumes to their charitable mindset.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's probably more money that most MMOs make
I was going to make this same reply, but you beat me to it.
James T. Kirk: All she's got isn't good enough! What else ya got?
Because without Blizzard's efforts to raise the funds, it wouldn't have happened.
Additionally, if you read Blizzard's post on the site linked in the article, they do indeed thank the players.
