Would you quit a video game because they nerfed a slot machine?

Well over in the wonderful land of SWTOR forums there seems to be a few going overboard because of Slotgate2015.  If you are not aware of this wonderful festival going on I suggest you pop into their forums and take a look, dont stay to long your head might hurt from all the craziness.

Yes believe it or not people are actually quitting (so they say I think they just need some attention in their life) over the nerf to a slot machine that you sit in your stronghold and push right click every 3 sec.

So what is the most outlandish reason you heard of a person quitting an MMO?

Yes, that seems a silly reason but I think its probably an oversimplification.

Usually when someone quits an MMO over what seems like a silly issue- Its the whole"Straw that broke the camels back" and didnt just come out of the blue.

Its a constant build up of problems (real or percieved) that ends up in a rage quit over what seems an inconsequential issue.

You clearly don't understand the reason for the uproar then and probably in the mindset to not understand either.

it's not just about the slot machine....but the continued utter fail on the devs side.  You can make an entire front page of continued bugs that they have not yet fixed since the "expansion"...but they hot fixed a cartel (cash) item within the week, because of a vocal few ,mostly cartel barons (gtn sellers) ...and yet no fixes or communication about anything else.

Where do you think their priority stands?? Yeah....this one item is like the final weight to send off that landslide.

What's far more likely is it's easier to adjust a few drop rate percentages as opposed to some of the more complicated real bugs that they have. Although they really shouldn't have introduced the slot machine to begin with at all.

Well thats actually not true, they have come out and talked about banning the exploiters.  I am very aware of the issue people were complaining last week, those who were not complaining were raking in the credits, it got nerfed they are pissed and are trying to come up with any way possible to complain about it.   Plain and simple.

As for other issues its a lot easier to fix a bug like the slots than other bugs.

and yet perception really is everything.  If you put off fixing dozens of bugs for years but quickly manage to push out a fix that appeases the cash shop cartel lords, then it doesn't matter in the slightest that it was easy to fix.

It's simply a matter that they chose to protect the cash shop spenders over fixing bugs that subscribers have been begging to have fixed for much longer.

But BioWare has to keep milking those cash shop spending udders since the game didn't come remotely close to sniffing the back end of WoW's subscription numbers.  Gotta keep that cash flowing somehow.

What are you talking about?  It alienated the cash shop spender by nerfing the the slots.  People "say" they bought packs just for the slots, why would you nerf them then?

No game has come close to sniffing wow, not sure your point?

Did you just miss my entire post?  That's exactly what I said, they decided to fix a bug that effected the cash shop cartel lords, but have ignored even worse, game breaking bugs for YEARS.

    That's why people are angry.

Also, you don't spend the better part of a decade and $200 million developing a game expecting it to go F2P within a year.  They clearly were spending enough money and effort to try to be competetive with WoW and they clearly failed.  Now they're in a position where a significant part of SWTOR's revenue is from the cash shop.

So now let me connect those two dots for you.

They spent hundreds of millions developing what ended up being another completely average MMO, had to go F2P within a year and now rely significantly on their cash shop.  So when the cash shop is threatened, boy do they manage to find the time and resources to fix THAT bug.  In the meantime other bugs have languished for years without any attention.  THAT's my point.

Well I must say my first discussion with another poster has been entertaining thank you.

But it if you are going to resort to a buch of made up points ie bugs been around for years, cm brings in most their money, they failed to compete with wow and on and on.

First to to fix a bug let's pick the ravenger exploit (I assume you have no clue what that is) that issue is a much more difficult and time consuming exploit to fix.  Now let's look at the slots it wasn't a bug it was adjusting the drop rate of some items do you understand the differences of those two item?  I am assuming you don't.

So if by your standard Swtor failed to compete with wow every mmo releases since wow have failed to compete right?  Just trying to understand your logic?

So let's go through this again slowly.  A week ago those who craft or sell crafting items were up in arms about the slots dropping purple (rare) jawa junk.  These items could be turned in for purple (rare) crafting mats (so far nothing to do with the cartel market these people were pissed you could buy the slots through a pack otherwise known as against the cm).  The other people who were for the slots as they stood a week ago were buying the packs (supporting the cartel market) they would buy packs until they got a slot or two sometimes three.  Because of the crafters and GTN crowd (again not the cm supporters) they nerfed the slots upsetting those who use the cartel market.  And somehow you think they did this to get more money out of the cartel market?  Again you don't know what you are talking about.

Lets break it down for you

LAST WEEK=crafters and those who sell craft mats were upset.  These people were not buying the slots from the market.

The nerf was to make last weeks people happy the ones NOT using the cartel market.

TODAY= People who bought the slots through the market are upset they got nerfed.

How does making those upset who use the cartel market equal they fixed to save the cartel market?  There is zero logic behind your line of thinking.

Bugs that have been in the game for years? Slot machine fix to appease cartel cash shop lords? ROFLMAO! You either understand absolutely nothing about what you are talking about, or I'd guess is it was nothing more than an excuse to take a shot at the game, and anything resembling facts be damned.

LOL it was crashing the economy and in one fell swoop made companion missions absolutely worthless. In less than 48 hours of being introduced into the game prices on many items had dropped by almost 50% and were still falling. The fact is the items weren't even remotely expensive in the first place so its not like it was a correction to something that was overpriced. On Harbinger augments (for example) were going for 90-100k a piece before the slots and for less than 40 by the time they fixed the slots. 90k might sound like a lot but just to put it in perspective you can run thru Ilum dailies killing mobs 10 levels lower than you in about 20 minutes and, between selling trash drops and the missions themselves, make 100k. The new dailies on Yavin give even more credits than that and take 30-40 minutes. So in one hour you could make 200k without even breaking a sweat.

Anyone who quits over nonsense like this either wants games to be stupid easy mode or is simply one of those people who bounce from game to game to game simply looking for an excuse to leave each one for "greener pastures".

I've been playing SWTOR since day one early access and nothing has ever broken the economy as quickly and thoroughly as this has. It wasn't caving in to the "vocal minority" it was correcting a mistake that, if left unchecked, would've made crafting worthless.

I don't particularly like random gachapon/lottery boxes in the first place, but I definitely sympathize with people who spent cash to buy Cartel Coins to get this slot machine, only to have it nerfed into oblivion. Dulfy shared a great video from the Cantina Event where Eric tried to explain it that they absolutely screwed up the initial %s, and the slot machine's true purpose was to give you a F2P way to get old reputations(cash shop reputations even being a thing is repulsive, but that's another matter entirely). But under the new patched %s, the drop rate is pretty much impossible to get gains in that reputation, which doesn't line up with their stated intentions.

The mount they added being a 90% speed unfinished POS doesn't help. Neither does NOT sharing this explanation at the Cantina with the forums or at the very least twitter. Or the Producer's Road Map/Letter to the community which was read aloud here but not shared through an official channel yet "because we're still going to work on it for two weeks."

They need to start cutting Dulfy, swtor_miner and swtor_potato a paycheck, because they do the CMs job for them.

You can't leave something so ridiculously broken in the game just cause some people will be out a few bucks. Impossible to get gains with the rep items? They still drop all the time, more than they did before based on what I have seen.

EDIT: Edited out my anecdotal evidence of drop rates as I see you posted some stats while I was writing.

Gambling addicts and logic do not mix.

No surprise from me for anyone in Swtor these days. Players hit the forums absolutely screaming that they didn't get something they want out of crates after spending hundreds of dollars on them. The issue is that they are spending hundreds of dollars on this shit and they don't realize THAT is the issue ... not about what they are getting.

    You stay sassy!

I get your point ofc,  it just looks wrong to me the way it's set up.
