With regards to the pistol - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/voyager-direct/weapons, this I am not a fan of. WTFOsaurus would say, "I thought we were here to test the game? I hope this isn't a sign of how things will stay... because most aspects of the game, pre-alpha as they may be, are very pay to win, almost as bad as H1Z1's air drops."

I like the video of flying through a jump point (or most likely thats discovering a new jump route).
With respect to the pistol ... why would you buy it with real world money ? There is no FPS module to test it yet. There IS a slight trick to land on a ship platform in Arena Commander, get out of the ship and shoot your own ship ... but thats for the real hardcore guys ;-) And even those would buy the pistol with the free in game cash they got.
We will get some FREE Arena Commander in game cash soon (to buy and test ship weapons) - thats official. I am quite sure we will also get some FREE FPS Battle Arena in game cash sometime this year to test out the FPS gear.
So .... no one will stop you from buying that pistol ... but there for sure is no need for it.
