The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: Release Date Pushed Back to May 2015

CD Projekt Red has sent out a press release to let fans of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt know that the release date has been pushed back from February 2015 to May 2015. Calling The Witcher 3 "the most important game in our studio's history", the letter indicates that there are still corrections to be made before unleashing it on the world.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

That is a crushing blow. Oh well, more time to make it better and lay down a solid impression.

hmmm maybe there is something to the rumor that the trailer does not reflect the game and that there isnt "a lot there" that came up recently?

I would rather have a game release pushed back, then have another bug ridden rush job that most companies have been pushing out.

In truth lets face it we'd all love to play the game and now. But without a doubt if there is still one company left to believe in, its these guys. I have zero doubt and complete faith in their decision. This is one company that still holds onto their true ideals and truly cares more about making a good product for its fans, than just $ signs and profit. They know both of those will come with a good game. This is one of the last holdout quality games companies, the likes of old blizzard and bioware, that still exist. I'll happily wait until they feel their product is ready, doesn't mean I won't froth at the mouth though lol.

It's actually almost 3 months... but yep, at least they're not rushing and/or releasing something less than 100%. Just started the first Witcher (now that I'm finished with the Dreamfall series), at least I can play it and then Witcher 2 on a more lighter load, so this delay is not that bad - to me, I mean. LotRO's Yuletide is almost here, just like Revan... more game time is always welcomed.

Two (not entirely serious ;) ) questions though:

"We owe you an apology."  - hmm... does this apology includes any additional preorder bonuses?

"we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date"  - so, the DLC fun (16 DLC's during the first 8 weeks after launch) will be included at the May launch?

Sorry, just bugging you bratanki :)  CD Projekt ftw, trust is unaffected. Take your time, guys.

YES! What wonderful news - I was debating about this or 1886 at release since they were a few days apart... that decision is made now. Too many games are coming out around Feb/March, so May for this sounds great to me.

It's too bad MMO studios don't do that.  Instead they charge people monthly subs to test and give feed back.  Of course as long as there are people willing to do that then there will be companies more than willing to oblige them.

I am sorry but all I am thinking about is this - they already allow for pre-order via Steam - why not have a pre-ready (Alpha/Betas/Whatever) version available to those who pre-ordered? if someone wantsd to give it a go - let them have it. for the rest can wait for official release...

    Just my 2 cents...

Gutted to say the least but I would rather have a finished product than a complete mess.So its in my steam library for when it is released.Gives me time now to play Dragon age inquisition and knock a few games off I aint played yet in my steam library.Good luck CDRED.

That's fine. I'm sure Dragon Age will keep me occupied for a good bulk of that. Especially the "Beat game on Nightmare" achievement. Ugh.

I think this will destroy Dragon Age Inquisition so well worth the wait.

Always good to not rush things and delay to optimize and fix game features.

Will be very amused tho if the game launched with very serious bugs/glitches  since it has been pushed back twice to half a year from first release date to give a better experience. Just as i laughed when DAI launched with serious bugs for some people after being delayed too.

Will still pre-order the game tho since it is well worth the money bugs or not.

That is a bit dissapointing. Honestly, I have not even finished the free dlc that comes with TW2.

    Might give that a go.

And yeah, there's SWTOR, DAI, and so many other things occupying my time atm.
