Elder Scrolls Online: Update 6 Headed to PTS in January, Console Versions Coming

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,127

The latest "Road Ahead" has been published on the Elder Scrolls Online site. The article begins with a retrospective look back at all the team has accomplished in the last several months and then starts a long look at what is yet to come. Of most notable interest is the news that Update 6 will be heading to the public test server in January and that, while no release date is yet set for console versions, they are closing in.

Update 6 will include both the Champion System and the Justice System. Our own Ryan Getchell took at look at the two new systems so be sure to check out his recent article.

The team also let fans know that both the XBox One and Playstation 4 versions of ESO are in a playable state and that work is steadily progressing. Both versions will be released at a point in time when the Justice and Champion Systems can be included so, at this point, there is no firm release window available.

It’s also important to note that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of ESO are not just ports of the PC/Mac game. We have completely replaced the PC user interface with a console-specific UI designed from the ground-up with a controller and a living room play experience in mind. We’ve also added voice chat and full integration with XBL and PSN. Expect to see lots of news about our console versions in early 2015.

I've heard there are a couple addons for controller support.

I'm looking forward to allowing PC owners the ability to transfer one character to the console versions.  Those that bought in before June get to do this for free, and get the PS4/Xbone versions for only 20$.

There is absolutely nothing that can make me play MMOs on a console....  If i want big screen, i hook my alienware laptop up to my 55" HD TV ...  And pull out my bluetooth controller and remote keyboard...

no way i am ever spending money again on a console... I blame them for the simplification of my favoirite game genre...  The first AAA+ MMO specifically designed for PC only with depth and deep class specialisation

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

2015 is going to be a great year for ESO! Most likely, the update after this will contain Spellcrafting, Imperial City and the removal of Veteran Ranks. After that, the console launch. After that, the new zones Wrothgar and Murkmire.

My anger towards this game has diffused. I will buy this for Xbox one. Does anyone know how voice chat works on the consoles for eso? Group chat? Proximity? Friends only?

I ll resub when this is all out. With WoW of course. WOD is just too good to give up, but they re really improving this game.

Yes because the very small amount of MMOs on consoles are what have caused the "simplification" of the genre, not the developers who decided to design the games with a different kind of player in mind than when the genre started lol.

Haha very good point. There are hardly enough console MMOs to suggest they are simplified for consoles. Ironically the biggest console MMORPGs are probably FFXI and FFXIV which particularly the former are two of the most complex MMOs on the market.

EQOA was a simplified EverQuest out of necessity due to no hard drive at the time. It's amazing what they pulled off though with one DVD and a small memory card!

Did you actually play those two games?  FFXI and FFXIV?  Because if you did then you would know that there were always issues with the console hardware that limited development in both.  They made great workarounds for these issues when they could and when they were motivated to, but it was a convenient excuse a lot of the time and it probably did make things more difficult for them compared to PC only development.

I wouldn't say they were ruined, they are great games and consoles in general have a lot of great games I wish we got on PC (or got earlier).  That doesn't mean that consoles do not limit development of games.  An MMO designed for PC only has less hardware limitations and that is just a fact.

I'd play an MMO on a console still though (I just don't have one, but in the future PC gaming might not be as "affordable" as it is now so who knows what I'll be playing games on).

What? There is only 5 mmorpg on consoles if you include ps2-3-4 together.

    1. Everquest Online Adventures

    2. Final Fantasy XI

    3. DC Universe Online

    4. Final Fantasy XIV

    5. Defiance

These are the games that ruined mmorpg genre? Really? And exactly Dreamo84 said FFXI and FFXIV some of the most complex mmos out there.

On the topic, I'll buy this game again when they finish their paid beta testing on pc and release this game on ps4. On top of that I can easily say that controller is a lot enjoyable than keyboard+mouse. I can't play FFXIV on my pc after playing on ps4. I hope they do a good job this time.

"Just to clarify, Update 6 will be coming to the PTS in January. This is our biggest Update yet--it's like two Updates in one--so we want to give ample time for testing. It won't be coming to the live servers in January."

Yeah, I'm really disappointed about this. Most wont feel the same as me, but most haven't logged the hours I have.

TESO is really bad, no update can fix it.  I have been playing couple months and forcing myself to like just cause of its  heritage, but  the game failed me much.

In their magnificent *wanna be RPG*  world they have tanks dependent on magica , big muscular male Nords  swinging swords and hips like girls.  Lack of immersion and choices all over the content.

The graphics are ok but thats not enough to keep me playing.

    Back to LOTRO
