General: US Operations Lower Perfect World's Earnings

According to the latest financials released by Perfect World Entertainment, operations in the United States have had an adverse affect on the company's earnings. While PWE made a slight profit overall in a year-to-year comparison, the increase was due largely to revenue generated by Chinese earnings by DOTA 2 and a pair of mobile games that have scored well with the same audience.

"In view of US subsidiary's recent performance and near-term business outlook that are below our expectations, we recognized acquisition-related impairments in this quarter," said CEO Robert Xiao in a statement.

"However, we are still confident in the long-term prospects of our US subsidiary given its strong R&D and operational capabilities as well as promising pipeline."

Guess Cryptic is still losing money.  LOL, like PWI really though adding some lockboxes and $25 SHIPS would help that game to make a profit.

Two things would help with this. Eliminate their Chinese economic models in STO and NWO because we westerners stop buying things when you do that, oh and Start giving more money to your two cryptic teams so they can finally at long last update their games to modern standards. Seriously, there are tons of features missing from both titles in both UI and functionality.

First off you have to make some amazing unique items cosmetic only is fine, weapon skins, costumes, hair styles, mounts and pets.

Change the boxes to new designs every month.

Payout the big prizes at least 50% of the time.

Make all the contents sellable and tradeable.

SWTOR is a pretty good example of how to make a blood sucking cash shop.

They could up the drop rate a little but they really have studied the human condition very well.

The razzle dazzle, all the lights and whistles, they make you think they are exclusive and limited, they use contrasting colors, bright vibrant colors against hard blacks, and they make it all a gamble.

    Most gamers are gambling addicts.

F2P companies like this need to realize people in the West are sick to death of "lock-boxes," "gachas," or whatever else you freaking wanna call them. Also, no one like P2W! NO ONE!

Most probably the wages of staff in the US operations are 10 times as high as the equivalent positions in China. They need to fire all the US staff that aren't absolutely necessary and move those jobs to China.

Everyone's been doing that, it's known as "industry best-practice". Even my ex-employer (a US multinational), who recently decided my job could be done just as well by someone in India for 30% of the cost...

Hopefully Western gamers are finally waking up and realizing that PWI produces nothing but pay 2 win trash.

PWI has the worst stable of games ever. They absolutely failed at Neverwinter. Way too much emphasize on the cash shop.

I suggest you read that again. "acquisition related impairments this quarter". They bought a majority of Digital Extremes stock for 73 million.

The report states that the US operations made 9.9 million this quarter which is 2,475,000 per month and non-GAAP profit of 20.6 million.

I've never thought a PWI game "good". I don't understand why anyone plays games by PWI, or Cryptic in the last 5 years for that matter.

I just wish that sto,co and neverwinter were in another companies hands then i might play them.

The funny part is this works in Asia because they play games in cafes. So its all about time in a game for them. Anything that speeds up your time is a good thing over there. They spend a ton of money on cash shops over there. Here people play at home so PWE needs to rethink how things work here. Star Trek online is losing so many players most of then vets that subbed. Now its only f2p players and now most of them are refusing to spend any more money. Pve queus are dead. This last update was really bad for PWE even though they say it wasn't.
