SC Stops Selling Ships. Now Sells Concepts!

KangaroomouseKangaroomouse Member Posts: 394

What most of you have not realized yet and has slipped through the whole hype and fanboy defending for this game is that THEY ARE NOT SELLING SHIPS ANYMORE!

They are now selling CONCEPTS. Yes you heard me right, these ships are not even available or created yet. They are concepts!

---

"When a ship's concept gets final approval from Chris Roberts, they will be sold in a one-week concept-only sale. After that week ends, the ship will not be available for sale until it is ready for use in the Hangar. Yes, you read that right: CIG is selling concept versions of virtual spaceships that can't be flown or even viewed in a game that isn't finished. In fact, the first of these, the Aegis Reclaimer, went on sale last week - for $350."

PROOF

---

If that's not taking the piss then i don't know what is.

Again. Chosen by the community as the next wave of ships, out of a pool of 10 "concepts" ... these are now set in stone for development. no different to purchasing the other "not ingame ready" ships that are already available.

You obviously don't follow the project.... there are only 5 flyable ships at the moment... out of...... like 25+ (guesstimate - but that includes variants of the same ship type) ... pleanty of ships people have bought and cannot use. they are given a temporary 1-of-the-5-playable to use in the meantime.

"Fanboy defenders" HAH god forbid there is some positive information on this game, instead of the mindless zombies coming into threads with knee-jerk reactions based on THEIR OWN SENSE OF VALUE.

But then I'm on MMORPG.com ... the place where people love to try and see things fail.

Imagine the world of MMORPGs if (a) the game ships and (b) all those ships that got sold ship with it. They keep all the promises they are making. Wouldn't that be weird?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I sincerely hope they do but so far the track record shows that they are better at producing commercials, reality tv shows and high gloss brochures than they are at making games.

Supposedly 280 people work there, that is a huge amount of employees for a game and i bet more than half of them are for the continued cash grab.

Im not for or against the game, just observing what being said. What you just said in red kinda just makes things worse imho. I thought people when buying the ships could use them at least, but they can't? There's only 5 playable ships out of 25+? So people are paying 100 - 600 for art basicly?

Have they given a time when people will actually get their ships? I think what you just said is going to have a much more negative impact than a positive one, people are already raising eyebrows at the cost of ship, to say people are not even getting them yet kinda just add fuel to the fire imho :/

Why would it be worst, they have been selling concept from day 1 of the funding campaign. If you don't have access to your ship on launch day, then yes, that would be a problem. But right now it is completely irrelevent.

All sold ships will be playable when the game officially launches. .......hopefully.

The currently playable ships are the ones that are playable right NOW at this very minute using demos and highly incomplete proto-pre-whatever-alpha-versions of the game.

    ...assuming I'm reading that right.

The ship sales have gotten extremely old. I know I'm about to go on a tangent a little off topic, but I really do want this game to be great.

I love Star Citizen. I love the idea of building a beast computer and running this game on it. I have my golden ticket, I used to dogfight regularly, and I support the logic and gameplay mechanics proposed so far.

    However, what is killing me;

The game started as "buy a ship you like and out fit it, for what you like to do" to "buy the ship that is outfitted for what you want to do".

Basically, one hull with 100 options, or 5 ships with 20 options and the best options being stamped onto one version that costs a lot more than the SAME ****ING HULL for the other designs.... This really disappointed me. The Koolaide drinkers will swear up and down "More variants, equals more options...derpity derp". **** that. Again, one ship with a 100 options or 5 ships with 20 options is not "more". I want to do business with these people. Do you want "one" little hundred dollar bill, or SIXTY ones? Yeah, you want the sixty, it's 59 more pieces bills than that one hundred dollar bill!

I understand that; locking these ships into different types, and locking options down breeds a spending spree in the community. It soaks more money out of their existing fan base. I love it when they say "we made 4 more million and added 1000 new space fans. Wait a minute...A lot of those 1000 new fans are just alt accounts(I have one for nefarious purposes lol), but even if they weren't alts that's 4K per person lol(which I seriously doubt). They are milking their base, and the majority of the money comes from melting the old ship and upgrading...And good for them, if cows want to be milked, set those utters on fire! However, I really think it's completely ****ed up the concept of the universe. It ruined the way the PU will work in my opinion. I intend to earn most of these ships in the game, but now my hangar will have to be four miles long if I want to collect ships. When I could have just had one of each, and a whole lot of parts lol.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

The difference is astounding. Do I buy a constellation....(I did, like an idiot) and use it in the game in anyway I see fit by grinding out components to switch out my ships roles? Nope. Now, I just need to buy them all(not happening)

Do I want to trade in my constellation? I need to buy the Taurus variant for 150 bucks.

Do I want to explore in my constellation? I need to buy the Aquila variant for 275 bucks.(CIG was sure lucky they did a poll and found out that exploration was the number one planned profession, it told them where to milk the hardest...)

and the pheonix, it was limited so I won't even go on about it's cost.

When Asked "Q. Are ships entirely role-specific now? Do I need to buy the one that matches how I want to fly?

Ben Lesnick, the community manager answered "A. NO – and that’s a NO in big, bold letters. Every ship available is a base from which you can customize to the role you want to play. The idea behind variants is to 1) show how this can be done and 2) give backers some options in terms of the look of the ship. Like the big windows in the Constellation Aquila but want to use it for cargo? You’re free to kit it out however you like! This is true for every single ship we sell and will not change."

Unfortunately we later found out, well yeah we can outfit our constellations a little bit, but they won't ever be as good as the variant meant to fit that role. And since when do gamers not sell their souls to get the mmo item that's the "best". Even if it's only marginally better. CIG knows what they are doing. To put it in certain terms, it's like telling gamers "you don't have to be a dps profession to dps, you can do all your dps with a healer if you want"(you will just suck extremely at it...lol)

Well... considering they sold at least 2000 of these $600 ships (the 2 of 3 waves of 980 ships have sold through) clearly people don't care as much as people on this kind of forum do. they know it will be made, and it will be available by the time the game launches in 18-24 months... you are PLEDGING TO FUND THE GAME WITH A REWARD ... not just buying a ship... they could just wait and save ingame for it... mind you I imagine it would take quite some time to get given what it is.

They have always sold artwork... thats how kickstarters work.....

But clearly, by this point in the games developement cycle the community is confident that the game will be complete. while there have been delays, things are now picking up... by the end of next year its looking like all the core aspects of the game will be in polished alpha (except the MMO aspect, which will be in early alpha) so pleanty for playres to enjoy while waiting.

Your hanger will likely have limited spots per station I would imagine. the larger ships will be "in orbit" or at a station outside of the planet. though I see your point.... OR they will keep the system they have now which you choose which ones you see in your hanger when required. Its not perfect.

Yeah, it is a bit silly for me to expect them to stick what they said at the very beginning. Definitely makes more sense to take 30 minutes to cross your hangar because you have 100 of the same ****ing ships. This is why almost all mmo's allow you to "RECLASS" or "RESPEC" your characters, instead of having 20 alts of the same ****ing character, with minor tweaks here and there.

They are still struggling to make the modular hangar work for the people that have bought tons of ships(there is a guy who owns about a hundred I think, probably more since that was over six months ago he hit a hundred ships). It will be immensely fun for that guy to drive in a buggy for twenty minutes to get to his ship. Even funnier when people complain that the 30 second loading/landing screen is too long.

As far as the realism argument. Your probably thinking honda's. This game was sold with "modularity". Kind of like how a NAVY can build a destroy hull, yet out fit it for various purposes by using different modules. You can claim realism as an argument, that is fine, but I find it sillier than just accepting; It's a design change based on how much money the developer can charge per ship without doing any more work. It's about fleecing your die hard core audience. Not "skewed realism arguments".

Go to the forums there and look at people raging about how ****ing lazy the developer was with the cutlass variants. They did so little, to make the ships actually different that people are pissed off.

There is modularity.... so they havn't exactly swayed far. and there has also been variants from the start. people are crying because the ridiculous level of expansion slots in the cutlass have been nerfed down... which happens to fall inline with that "we expect every single EARLY CONCEPT DESIGN DECISION TO BE FINAL" crowd which are ridiculous and will likely end up not liking half the game if thye really think its viable. Both the Hornet / 3xxi series have fixed variant hulls in pretty much identical manner from the start... yet nobody is complaining about them... because people expected too much modularity on the cutlass, if it wasn't viable.. it wasn't viable period.

"Struggeling" source? it was the first itteration of it... as for the "milking" arguement.... I guess, but why is this only a problem now that the cutlass has come out again? the 300/310/315p/325A barely look and spec differently..... or look that different. hell the 350R has 2 engines but the rest is nearly identical... why is it suddenly a problem now?

How much flexibility can you TRULY have with such small fighters? even the constellation variants... only look slightly different (but with decent enough flexibility... because they are larger.).

Yeah, it is a bit silly for me to expect them to stick what they said at the very beginning.

Enphasis on this... because its a damn cop out arguement with a double standard thrown in.... YES they may have said that was the AIM. but they also say at EVERY SINGLE STAGE OF DEVELOPEMENT that "EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE".

    SC is still selling ships...

Aurora, 300, Hornet, Avenger, Freelancer, Constellation, Cutlas

    The rest are concepts.

Every ship was a concept for over a year. CIG has delivered the above ships when they had something like 50 dev's, now they have 280 dev's.

SC is taking forever to release? All MMO's take 3-5 years to make. This game has only been in development for less than 2 years, so why some people so mad?

No other MMO has shown off a fraction of in-game footage compared to the same stage as what SC is at now.

No other MMO is allowing some of the decisions to be made by the fans, at this early stage of development.

No other MMO is fully funded by its fans, allowing for the dev's themselves to make the game they and their fans to design 100% of the game, unlike all other MMO's that are influenced by share holders and publishers.

The game costs only $30, its all you need. It will take only 1 week in-game to earn a $200 pledge ship. If you spend more than $30 is to help CIG try make the game as better as it can be, in turn you're given better ships. The people spending a lot of money are so damn tired of the same old b oring BS games, SC is the only MMO being made differently from all other MMO's so it has more chance of being a better game than any other, that is why they pledge more - its not the value of the ship that matters or have a massive advantage in game. People want someone to make the best game possible, this is "pretty much" the only game that stands a chance,

You are attempting to reason with people that don't even know what they are talking about.

You also left off a few pesky little facts.

CiG did not introduce a sale on new ship concepts for almost 18 months. FACT!

How do you think the first 5 ships were sold? AS CONCEPTS. FACT!

Community voted in overwhelming majority to bring concept sales back. FACT!

The community voted against CiG releasing the mustang before it was hangar ready, CIG listened, and did not list it, FACT

CIG is now supplying the ships people want to see most (with votes that total in the 20,000-40,000 sample size) for sale. FACT

    The prices are obscene, FACT.

The prices on big ships have ALWAYS been obscene, FACT

Idris was $1,000 a piece, FACT

890 Jump is $600, just over half the price of the most expensive ship ever sold. FACT

MMOs ALWAYS take 3-6 years to develop. FACT

Major games NEVER Show content this early. FACT

KB+M & Console plebs rarely know what they are talking about. FACT

CIG has made two new ships flyable in the past month. FACT

CIG is adding yet another ship into the "Arena Commander" in the next 2-3 weeks. (Mustang) FACT

Avenger and Cutlass will follow the Mustang into AC a month or so later. FACT

CiG to reveal the FPS portion of the game which has been under lock & key development for a year at the end of this month. FACT

They intend to have the FPS module available to play by the end/very beginning of next year. FACT

DFM 2.0 (Arena Commander for all you plebs) will begin to introduce the larger multi-crew ships, and is slated for Q115(thats first quarter 2015 for you plebs) FACT!

No one else is providing CiG with money besides the community. FACT

The above fact dictates that they must continue milking the community for funds. FACT

CR claims that they already have enough money + properly invested backer money to see the game to completion. FACT!

Squadron 42 (the single player military, Wing Commander campaign) is slated to have 30-50 hours of game play. FACT

Have an issue with Star Citizen? Good for you! Feel free to stay away, you are probably a KB+M using baddy anyways, thus no one wants you around!

Never played a Space Game before beyond Kerbal? STAY AWAY, NO ONE WANTS YOU OR YOUR SILLY OPINIONS ON HOW IT SHOULD BE MORE LIKE WOW AND COD. FACT!

Interested in Star Citizen but don't know where to start?

All ships for sale now will be obtainable in game without spending a dime of real world money. FACT!

Next week the Mustang and its variants will go on sale. The Mustang is the combat ready starter ship, and will start @ the Same price as the Aurora. This means you can avoid getting the flying Space Coffin, get the combat ready mustang instead, and STILL only spend $45 to play the available bits of the game today. FACT!

    $45 today includes:

    1.) Single player campaign

2.) The MMO portion known as Persistent universe

3.) Arena Commander (racing, generic PvP game modes, solo flight, and VS. AI. This also includes private matches for all of the above so you can play with JUST your friends if you like)

So far, To date, CiG Has only moved away from two game play mechanics.

    A.) "Nothing like Freelancer"

B.) The "Upgrade slots" which were deemed to be unrealistic and too much work to develop (for now)

Ship upgrading is what its always been.

These Ship Variants (See Cutlass) have been known about by the community for EVER A YEAR. What does that mean? That CiG didn't change a damn thing. Variants have been a part of the equation from the beginning. Don't believe me? Then you are dumb as hell and don't know what you are talking about! Just look at the Aurora, 300 series, and Mustang. They all have 3-4 Variants, each one specifically tuned for a special task, which then makes it the best ship to choose for THAT task, but NOT the only ship.

Why do you buy a Hummer with a hood mounted air intake? So you can go mudding in the deep.

Why do you buy a Nissan Skyline? So you can go racing in the Japanese streets!

Stop acting like its so foreign and strange to see CiG do this. All it proves is that you don't know what you are talking about!

Yes, there are plenty of white knights, and i'm sure someone in this thread of upstanding Citizens will label me as one, but if you have seen me post on the CiG forums you know I am anything but.

So, in short. The OP doesn't know what he's talking about, pretty much everything is par for the coarse, (despite the new scope dictating a 1-2 year later release date, Circa 2017) and if you can't handle the emotional strain of watching a game go through development, thus the game play mechanics change weekly, THEN LEAVE AND COME BACK (or don't come back)

Those of you who can't get your head's out of your asses & realize that EVERYTHING is still a work in Progress are likely the most detrimental members of the community, and you need to see your selves out. Oh, and stop using the "it's pre-alpha" excuse.

Oh, and LAST BUT NOT LEAST. I know it's hard to comprehend something that you have never experienced before, but trust me when I say CiG is going down a very dangerous path allowing mouse to function the way that it currently does. PERIOD. If you don't believe me, YOU NEED TO SHUT UP AND GO PLAY WING COMMANDER, PRIVATEER, FREESPACE, FREESPACE 2, AND THE ORIGINAL ELITE DANGEROUS BEFORE TALKING ON THE SUBJECT AGAIN.

Good troll, since you can get the single player, the MMO portion, and the Mustang combat fighter for $30, if you don't want to participate in any of the alpha modules, or BETA content. Also, your ship isn't your mount, so i'm just going to hope that you are trolling, or dumber than a box of rocks and never intend to play the game. Both are acceptable actions for me. Your ship is your ship, as in you are going to be stuck as someone's red shirt if you don't own your own ship. You will either be a crewman, or stuck playing the FPS module 24/7 instead of participating in the part of the game that is the major goal. A return to the old ways, death penalties being one of them. If you can't handle losing more than a few gold when you die, this game is not for you. If you can't handle a game forcing you to git gud, this is not for you. Please stay away if you disagree with any of the mechanical intentions behind Star Citizen (do not read as disagree with CiG, that is completely different)

Please do correct my supposed not facts. AMD And some other random schmucks sponsored TNGS, but outside of that... bope, sorry. CiG made the strange decision to kick the Venture Capitalists to the curb when they saw how much money they were raking in. If you have proof to dispute this, please bring them forward, as you will be the first with evidence of them lying about the game development being crowd funded.
