Project Gorgon: New Funding Initiatives to Begin While the Project Continues

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Though the Project Gorgon KickStarter initiative was not fully funded, the team is not ready to give up and has plans to open an official site and funding options that can be created and maintained on the same. The announcement was made after the expiration of the KS initiative last week.

With Kickstarter concluding with less than a favorable outcome, many are asking about the state of Project Gorgon. With so much invested, and the massive amount of support from you all, we're positioned to continue development efforts of Project Gorgon. We've made a decision to host our own Kickstarter style component on the official Project Gorgon site, which is preparing for launch next week.

We're currently integrating the game's account environment into the site to create a seamless account management and investment tracking system. Unlike Kickstarter, our system will allow our investors to build up toward large rewards using investor points. This will allow members the opportunity save for otherwise unaffordable rewards. There is a lot to do still, and we'll be working to make our projected path clear and easy to traverse.

As we often do, we'll be hosting a town hall meeting Saturday! We'll discuss where development is headed, while allowing you all to share your input directly with us.

Our new game launcher update will be available tomorrow evening. It features many major and minor bug fixes as well as a host of gameplay updates and "quality of life" features.

Thanks for your continued support everyone, we have many great things in store for you over the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you all in game.

We'll keep you posted as this story develops.

Good news!   Anyone who loves in-depth crafting games should check this out.

Crafting? Really I'd rate the crafting a solid 2/10 for this game. The crafting is the same old node harvesting add A+B to make C that has been done in almost every theme park since WoW.

Skill and combat systems id rate the game a 9/10 though. The dev has obviously has a good handle on them and they are quite unique and fun. Plus what other game can you run around as a pig or deer or cow?

I hope this game makes it out of development hell because I really enjoyed playing it last week and it has a TON of great ideas.

Treading on dangerous ground when using the word "investing" in this context. It's a donation, and calling it an investment implies some level of ownership rights (which do not exist). Would definitely advise them to avoid that term like a West African with a runny nose.

Skill and combat is 10 / 10. This game is such a perfect base for something long lasting, I hope they do it.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

We so need a PvE sandbox in this day and age.  Please support this game folks!

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I am having a great time in this game.  A true-sandbox.  Please try it out if you have not already.

Well everything in most games is super simple,in Gorgon almost everything has to be discovered by raising different skills and unlocking favor with npc's and imo that is the way it SHOULD be.

Go to any other game and an 8 year old could probably start crafting from, day 1 and fully understand it.I however won't lie,it is not quite the way i like crafting but it is designed based on player effort and i like that.

I really like Gorgon,of course it has lots of room to improve but so did my favorite game FFXI,EVERY game can be improved 10 fold.It is the core concepts that keep me interested,i feel like the struggle to advance is sort of as tough as ffxi was in the beginning.

I love the idea of a crafting buff but imo you should have 3 choices loaded at the same time instead of one and perhaps a global 1/2 as in Meditation.

Food is every bit as important as it was when i played FFXI,meaning eat and drink is very important,i just wish both played a bigger role during combat and not copy the aged idea of mostly regains after combat.

If anyone is looking for something outside the super over done linear questing Theme parks,i highly suggest this game.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Cool, I hope they end up doing well. :D

I truly enjoy the ideas being thrown into this game. All one has to do is ignore the basic graphic and animation elements the game is currently running and just look at the mechanics being implemented to see the evolution of old school rpg ideas being presented. Some pretty good stuff.

Kickstarter seems to be a great hype machine more than an efficient project starter. Granted the majority of investment for Camelot unchained came through KS but the ongoing site donations keep on trickling in as the development continues. I truly believe that is best way for those interested to follow along and decide when is the best time for them to pledge. Many simply can't be sold on an idea through presentation alone (KS).

My only worry is the fine line between a balanced approach between investment/reward and full out exploitation of human addictive behavior (Star Citizen is pushing the extreme boundaries on this ... or shattering them depending on one's point of view).

    Awesome news indeed.

I have enjoyed playing this game the past couple of weeks. I will certainly be looking forward to the new funding options they come up with.

I'd gladly pay a monthly fee now if it would help. I'm sure there are others that would as well. I hope it is an option.

Definitions are different for people.  Try it - you get full access for free.  Then you can decide if it a 'true-sandbox' as defined by yourself.

    A true sandbox?

Sandbox is rather overused these days.

The term I would use would be:

Massively Open Online Role Playing Game.

Actually considering the role a cow plays in the introduction to the game it would be fitting to call it a MOO lol. Not that I am suggesting re-branding what a MOO used to mean. The term MMO today is such a shriveled shell of what it used to mean.

It is massively open to exploration with complex rpg style mechanics. To be honest it is what I thought Asheron's Call would evolve into instead of the industry (including Turbine) cloning and refining themeparks for over a decade.

    You stay sassy!

I have spent at least 100 hours in this game.

There are no gimmicks, and no BS. It seems like good people making a good game for other good people.

I strongly recommend the members of this site check the game out. It is worth it.

There are no money grabs, there is no cheese.

    Enjoy!

Best of luck with this. I haven't gotten to play it yet but I have friends that rave about it. Nice to see something actually different in MMOs not something that is just advertised as different.

^This! There is a whole food/crafting line dedicated to cheese with its own mechanics. How dare you, nebb, say there is no cheese ?

But on the whole topic of funding I think it is great they choose to use a donation system. The game does server a niche and it might be better to have a way to spend a few bucks at a times instead of 100k at once like they tried with kickstarter.

No offence intended and for creating this game I really like him but imho the team should hire a PR person. Seeing the few interviews Eric did I guess he is a person who likes creating games which is great (to avoid the term perfect) but when it comes to presenting them and making PG look good to the public he lacks some skills (again, no offence). The latest mmorpg.com interview/video f.e. seems, to me, a bit boring and Eric leaves to me the impresson that he is a bit uncomfortable or unexperienced in the whole part of presenting a game. I get that they don't have the ressources others have but to get money you have to invest money and in this case my opinion is that PG would grow a lot if they had a good public representation. In its current state the game offers more than some full releases but it kind of lacks the "we are the best" attitude which makes games earn money. Not that I am a fan of it but it seems it is nessesary nowadays.

I hope you don't get me wrong. The game is great (love it), I am playing the game for 2-3 months now after having paused for a year and still am far away from knowing everything which says alot about an early alpha. The ideas he has are even better but to make those ideas reality it takes good people who cost a bit. I just hope they manage to get enough funding to create the game he/they envisioned because if they stick to their release plan they will have to compete against "sandboxes" ( using the word loosely) like Camlelot Unchained and The Repop which I honestly think they can do.

@Kano it is different in the way that it doesn't hold your hands, has to my knowledge a rarely used skill system and it is the first time I have seen the NPC favor / merchant system. The only thing you can criticise of not being rare or unique is the crafting system which is at the moment the basic click, wait, reward system. But honestly the game is in alpha and in this game alpha truely means adding new systems and trying new stuff. They add some experimental stuff this week, gather feedback and change it 1-2 weeks later just to gather another round of feedback. You make it seem as if the game is done and is released "as is". I get why one might think that way but from my experience it isnt the case in this game. If you are mildly interested in a game like this my best advice would be play it and make suggestions, they do listen to the playerbase.
