Lol blaming a lousy coumminty on f2p doesn't fly anymore. And this game also a has a patron statues. Every mmo post wow has communties like this. This generation of gamer's grew up on the internet. Where anyone can post anything without fear because they are unknown. You might as well quit playing online games if this bothers you. But i have always said it would be great if you could turn chat off. And when you add open world pvp to any mmo,you are going to get lowest type of people playing your game. I can't even count how many post i've seen on other game sites from people posting what they hope they can do to other players in this game. You have players who live to ruin other player's game time. Its the only reason they play.

You have a point when you suggest to accept it as reality, but that doesn't mean the OP is wrong either. Yes, PVP crowds tend to run toxic to begin with, but at the same time, it wasn't too many years ago I played Rappelz. It was the most amount of time I spent in a F2P game. I got to 92 before I quit. And while the guild I was in was not terribly toxic in the game, they were somewhat, and listening to them in TeamSpeak was well.......an experience. In spite of people crying not to stereotype, my game had it clear as day. The majority of players I interacted with were scammers, Players bragging about ebaying off their 4th account, players on their 4th account do to constant perma-bans for major infractions, Young kids (Pre-teen) who's parents wouldn't pay for WoW....(and also didn't realize paying for WoW was a much better alternative to what their kids had discovered in its place) The guild leader was a real piece of work. Sitting at home in mamma''s house with his live in GF and kid sending her out to go to work for money and raise the kid (Along with mamma) so he can stay home and play games all day. On a good day, language in team speak only degraded to pornographic levels. Most times, members would brag about illegal activities ....drugs, crimes, violence, etc.

Rappelz was the 1st and last F2P game I really got invested in. But in fairness to AA, I have played Hybrid games like SWTOR that weren't as bad as Rappelz.

TLDR; Sorry, but there is still an element of F2P that attracts a certain crowd.

That certain crowd exist everywhere, the only problem with F2P option is that alot of ppl will enter in game whithout be real intersted on game, just want to troll around using chat or using anything that game allow to make other players live misery. And the 1st weeks of launch are the worse ones.

Imo is not correct pointing to F2Players like they are all trolls and other worse names. Its not the F2P community, its the F2P option that make easy to trolls acess game.

I have meeting great f2p players and alot of p2p trolls.

In AA case there are some founders that treat bad anyone that isnt a founder, and others that hate f2p players without any valid reason. This is pure preconception (hope spell it correct)

I did too, but likely because if someone went too far off the chain they were moderated into compliance.

That's what's missing from any game where the chat has run amok, active moderation, it could easily slap the offenders down.

Marvel Heroes chat is amazingly civil for some reason and its F2P.  I dunno why but vulgarity and anything else "bad" is nigh nonexistant there.  Completely.  Maybe one reason/factor is because the game is probably one of the least competitive MMOs in existance or something.

Once Wow launches it will clear up. Coincidentally, I thought I was going to play Warlords, but AA has got me in the stranglehold, just use the block option in game and .... you can always make a new chat window dedicated to guild, whispers, and nearby players

I don't really see this as an issue.  I tune out chat as I'm playing, so I don't really process it.  Besides that, if I do focus in on it, I just block those I don't want to see.  This issue is very controllable by the player.

Alright OP, I'm gonna have to agree with you in this particular game.  I tried 3-4 servers before I was just like wow at the chats. Most of them talking Brazilians or saying the n word just non-stop, Jesus....I'm pretty sure it does relegate more towards F2P games though even though it might not be them all, since all you have to do is make another account if you get banned etc. But man, no respect or anything from these people, they just say anything. Sorry for the big debate earlier mate.

Turned off by chat ? Turn off the chat ! :D

At least you can uncheck faction/alliance or create a custom tab.

  • OhhPaigeyOhhPaigey Member RarePosts: 1,517

I don't think it has anything to do with F2P, you should've been reading the chat for Tera's OBT & launch, talk about a mess lol.

But I really just think it's how all games are now, the vocal minority tends to ruin it for others.

Don't be so sure. It's not those some call "WoW kiddies" who are in cause here. WoW's chat is much better and nicer than AA's chat.

Free 2 play + heavy PvP component = good recipe for the worse community ever.

What a coincidence... Tera is also free to play and with a stronger PvP component.

I guess you could argue that, but in the end there's grown adults with a childish mentality on every game and every part of the game, whether it's PvE or PvP.

This is pretty much what you can expect in F2P games, especially in a chat that is continent & faction-wide. I learned early to create a tab specifically for nation, faction, and trial chat, leaving the main chat log for only whispers, loot notifications, and local chat. Pretty easy to get around

FFXIV ARR does not seem to be plagued by this issue .You should try that game.

  • TiamatRoarTiamatRoar Member RarePosts: 1,685
I generally shy away from PvP MMOs.  The ones I did play with some significant PvP component ("significant" as in it affects the rest of the game in various ways even if indirectly, as opposed to something people just do for fun) did seem to have worser communities overall though in retrospect.
  • BarCrowBarCrow Member UncommonPosts: 2,195

Don't think it is any worse than most MMOs in general , free or otherwise. I did notice the worst of it seems to come out of the TRIAL chat. Other than that..I"ve seen just as bad in every MMO I've played . The quantity and frequency of which varying from day to day.

I did , however, see a character named "Fucker". Which I think should probably be moderated. lol.

..and as far as names...I really wish developers had naming conventions like no Leetspeak or names ..like Asskicker or xJohnsxbonerx  I'm not even a RPer..it just irks me anyway. Although there isn't much RPing going on..it is an mmoRPG and naming conventions (with spaces and surnames allowed) should be stricter and enforced imo. That's just me ...I know it would be a pain to monitor but still. Oh well.. topic for another time and likely never going to happen for most games.

Community's crap, cash shop's disgusting yet the game's growing on me big time !

Don't let these idiots ruin the game for you, OP. Turn off Alliance, Nation and Trial chat channels, they're useless.

The toxic kiddies and gold spammers haven't invaded Trade or LFG yet.

I guess you could argue that, but in the end there's grown adults with a childish mentality on every game and every part of the game, whether it's PvE or PvP.

The only thing I'm arguing for, and which has always been confirmed by my personal experience, is that there's way more of them, both adult and kids, in F2P games. Nothing stops people from creating an endless amount of F2P accounts and keep on ruining other's day, unlike P2P or B2P games where you have to pay again. Same thing for gold farmers, they have it so easy then.

I can give one example which was quite impressive... when LOTRO Europe went F2P, and the Laurelin server was suddenly open to the trolls without any risk. The community took a huge nosedive. The amount of assholes who made an account there just to ruin it for RPers was... well, it was actually sad.

I'm not a militant defender of the P2P model, but I think all games should at least be B2P. Having to make an initial investment keeps a lot of asshats from playing just to be asshats.

    My take is:

    - Every MMORPG should be at least B2P.

    - The initial investment should be the same as for any other game, aka approx. $50 to $60 for the box or account creation (digital purchase).

Keeps out a lot of freeloaders, and makes up for a way better community.

WoW's chat is no different and it's P2P. I look at it as an opportunity to learn about class abilities now. Whenever I see Anal [Decimate] I'm like, "Huh, I wonder what Decimate is?" It happens so frequently it's like white noise to me now.

Sorry, but free loaders often have very little to do with it. The difference between today and 10 years ago is that 10 years ago, paying $15 a month to play a game wasn't just unheard of, it was downright ridiculous. So you could be right, it might be free loaders or it might be children, but the fact of the matter is that the payment model seldom has anything to do with it. If you feel like it does then chances are you aren't sitting in chat.

It doesn't happen in WoW.  10 years later, and people are still the same in that game.  It's both b2p, and p2p too.  I've reported people multiple times for being abusive in chat, which involved harassment or death threats, and nothing was ever done to them.

It also doesn't keep the trolls out in FPS games, which is b2p.  No amount of server admins in FPS games will keep the chat clean, because it's impossible to monitor them 100% of the time.

This excuse that f2p games are worse just isn't true.

Tera wasn't f2p at launch, and it doesn't have a strong PvP component.

People with a subscription have something to lose, and as a result they have an incentive to behave.  Microtransaction players can create throwaway accounts to be sociopaths.  It's not a moral attack on f2p players to observe that a minority of them will do precisely this - and that people are far more reluctant to throw away cash for the thrill of calling other people slurs for a half hour in chat until they're banned.

In the ESO beta there were racist character names and chat was awful.  Once the launch happened and it was subs-only it was night and day - all of that was gone.  This is the closest that you can get to a scientific test of what a complete lack of accountability does to some people.

IMO non-sub players shouldn't be able to post in public chat channels (reading them is no problem.)

Oh yeah you're right, Tera was B2P + Sub I believe. And that games chat was HORRIBLE at launch.

Yeah as bad as trolling can get in other games Tera's the only one where I thought maybe I should let the cops know about some of the chat.:)
