Origin giving away all of Sims 2 for free.

JemcrystalJemcrystal Member UncommonPosts: 1,989

Apparently if you have a registered account with Origin they have sent you an email to a link where you can download all of TS2 for free.  Details in this thread at the TS2 forum called MTS:  here.  I don't have an Origin account.  I bought all of my copies off Amazon.com back when there were still copies to be bought.  Apparently Sims 2 copies are getting harder to come by since it's a discontinued product.

Sims 3 is arguably not as popular as Sims 2 because it lacks a lot of the dynamics TS2 had.  Sims 4 is in the making last I heard.  Perhaps even getting close to release?

From reading the forum link you posted, it seems it's only people who have registered TS2 products through EA services previously. Don't think they are just giving it out to everyone.

This info is really only a heads up for those into Sims / life simulation.

Make an Origin account if you have an old box laying around with the code you can register it: https://activate.ea.com/gameactivation.do and get a free download - temporarily.  The point is more that the time limit for people who want to own the best Sims game ever made is almost up.  In the future there may no longer be any disks of this game.  TS3 and TS4 are crap.  TS2 was created by Maxis and that group of devs are "retired."  The disks on Amazon used to be around $4.00 but now they are becoming rare the price is rising.  This was a damn good game with a still active large community and friendly patron support.  TS2 was FORCED out of production by the co. owners, EA, in attempts to make more money by selling crappier versions of newer sims games.

I don't know why every game after TS2 is crap.  Maybe the Maxis team were the best simulation devs to exist and no one else will come along to produce anything like they did?

i believe i read yesterday they stopped (or are stopping soon) all online support for The Sims 2, i guess thats why they are giving it away for free.

The Sims 4 releases on the 2nd of September. My wife is waiting with bated breath. She lives for those types of games.

Ahh only if Origin did not exist :) I would have taken the effort.
