Xbox live......Having a bit of trouble

I know it is kinda late, but i have just bought the original Xbox, and got a pretty good deal for it ($165 or so) for the counsel, 3 controllers and halo 2.   I was wondering if anyone here knows if you can just take an Ethernet cord and plug it into your computer and attach it to the Xbox so you can get Xbox live.

    My eithernet cored is hooked up to a router. If you can lan a computer to have internet connect I'm sure you can do that too.

    fisrt of all i have it where my ethrnet cord is plugged into my modem and then to my router, then i have my comp and my xbox plugged into the router and it works quite fine...except sometimes my bro gets some lagg on xbox live when im on the comp, but thats just sometimes

    i got my ds wifi enabled pm me for some friend codes!
