Why this game is a refreshing springrain in the world of new MMO's

Pro's

 - Nice graphics

 - Great combat feel

 - It feels like a singleplayer game with 200 hours of content

 - Best f2p system ever

 - Actually interesting storyline

 - Makes you want to play Guild Wars 1 which is even heavenlier as singleplayer-played story-linebased game

 

Con's

 - For alot of people it doesnt feel as "massive multiplayer". Even though worldbosses etc. require alot of people, you tend to feel as if youre playing for yourself anyway.

 

So... just dont play it 24/7 and work through the storyline while doing side-events and youll have the time of your life.

    Im glad thats working out for you. Unfortunately, I enjoy a robust crafting system, housing, a diverse economy, and other meaningful non combat activities. Just having a new mmo that offers more than combat is a refreshing spring rain to me hah

    No gear progression at max level is Con as well as Pro for many people. I for one don't want more gear tiers. I wish they stopped at exotic but they introduced ascended. If they tried that again I believe many would protest against it. People don't want gear progression, only cosmetic progression which is made better since the introduction of the wardrobe.

    People keep saying there is no gear progession in this game and I just keep asking, "Do you have full Ascended Gear" already? If you do, then bravo you obviously love the game if you play it that much.

    Guild Wars 2 has gear progression. A quite grindy one at that. I say its a pro.

    The funny thing is, Guild Wars 2 does have horizontal progression. However it's mostly tied to gear / cosmetics atm. Which is why a lot of people overlook it. They get max lvl, a set of exotic or ascended gear, and think 'okay, i've beat the game'. Completely missing the point of having 100s of cosmetic skins to obtain, different stats & builds to explore / rune sets / etc.

    However, I do agree that this game needs more of that when it comes to skills. If nothing else I really want them to add in weapon-sets. Not only would this add more customization amongst skills, but it would also help to 'fix' a lot of awkward skill loadouts. This perhaps most extreme when looking at the underwater weapons, but there are a lot of weapons in the game that have a mixture of 'defense, offense, and condition damage'. It would be nice to have pistol builds that weren't based around bleeds, or rifle builds for that matter. Or sword builds that could be power or defense oriented. Or axes that were specced for bleeding, etc.

    Being able to fine-tune weapon skills to more efficiently fit into a build would not only be a huge benefit to buildcrafting, but it would also open the door to more character progression, which most people seem to want.

    Thats not really gear progression, progression means getting new and different things...  This system gives you just more of the same.

     

    I think the way traits now work is a good first step , ..

    It is massive.

    It just isn't a maestro leading an orchestra (even though there are some events and WvW where commanders play that role).

    Do people really play video games for cosmetic gear?  I just don't get it at all.  I would have stayed playing GW2 if they actually had some progression at end game either gear, skills, etc.  Your character should constantly be able to get stronger the longer you do something just as you would in real life.

    The f2p thing is big for me.

    Most f2p games I still get lured to spend lot of money.  But not this one.  I actually play for free.

    That is why the sports are dominated by 70+ year old.

    That is why the new scientific breakthroughs are made by 90 year old.

     

    So you don't understand people playing for a piece of cosmetic gear, but if that piece of cosmetic gear says "+1" you totally get it.

    Even though before you were fighting a wolf and now you are fighting a dire wolf that uses the same AI and attacks as the wolf but it has +1 to its stats.

     

    And do people prefer to use a water melon helmet or a shiny plate helmet that shoots lightning? I guess some would prefer to use the water melon if it gave +10 while the plate helmet gave +5.

    Lol +1. In wow you play for credits that you can then use to increase the ilevel on an item, the same increase that the entire game population has access to. Oh but it does mean that new players are even further disadvantaged in battlegrounds. Perfect game design.

    It's a single player interactive movie.

     

    You can beat a vast majority of the content the game offers by simply pressing the auto-attack key on any character with any gear set using any traits.

     

    I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing but if you're looking to be challenged on an individual level or looking to have a meaningful group experience, you ain't gonna find it here unless you make it for yourself.

    Great art style, beautiful world, excellent graphics and solid single player story.

    Combat feels really bad and kills this game for me. No resource management whatsoever (except Thief class) and button mashing when the cooldown expires.

    Game really needs new content. Living story just doesn't cut it. New zones (OK, we got one recently) and new dungeons are really necessary at this moment. Maybe even an expansion with new class.

    I would also like to see some 10-man instanced PVE content, but it's not likely to be implemented ever.

    PVP also needs more modes (only CTF until recently) and 3-man arena PVP would be cool, but also unlikely to come.

     

    TLDR: Beautiful game with solid foundations, but no significant support/updates from devs and no further investments from publisher.

    I'm hoping  for 5 v 5 guild arena's. I'm ready for some of that. Going to have to highlight one part of your post that I agree with more than anything. No doubt this game needs some new dungeons. When they first came out with Fractals it was such a breathe of fresh air because the content was extremely difficult which forced players to actually interact, speak, and play together. Fractals was great with groups that didn't use exploits and actually played the challenge of the dungeon.

    I really hope they come out with some hardcore dungeons. I want my group to get that their ass waxed a few times so we have to actually get in Teamspeak and figure out the best way to attack them.

    Glad you enjoy it but I think it`s way over-hyped game. Only the nice graphics and art save it from being totally bad in my opinion. Story is poorly written, combat is nothing but a kiting-fest,  Dynamic events were actually done better in Rift. Progression is terrible. World looks beautiful but feels empty. GW1 was a much better game. I wish they`d just redo that game with GW2`s graphics.

    Wait...there is progression in GW2?  Dang...made it to level 40 and never noticed...

    Also, worst made dungeons in an AAA game.  Lack of trinity only compounds this issue

    6th grade story and copy/paste quest system also make it a bad game.

    Think that was a cut and paste paragraph ^^. There 1 reason why gw2 should be considered refreshing - they offer us game players a genuinely different AAA quality gaming experience - and for no sub. You may not like the game or parts of the game, but that's not the question here.

    While ESO was an one-monther and WS was a three-monther, GW2 have 2 years and it is well alive. I beta tested all them, but only GW2 had me playing for these two long years, because I never played a MMO for so long.  I played a lot of different MMO: EQ, EQII, SWG, Ryzom, Darkfall, ATIDT, EVE, WAR, TOR, FFXI, FFXIV, Vanguard, but only GW2 grabbed me.

    Certainly Gw2 made something right...

    See you at LS 2 chapter 4!

    Nah, I prefer GW2 over its predecessor any time of the day, any day. GW isn't even an MMO. Solo play with henchmen, crazy unbalanced builds, fun for a while, but it didn't grab me.
