DC Universe Online (S.I.P.) aka Should I Play

I'm starting a new series designed, to a be all in one quick stop for games. This series will only be American games already released. Foreign gamers please don't take any offense to this. I cover a lot of overseas games, but western games need love too. Basically I'll be touching on games quickly. And telling you the cold hard facts and giving you a preview of what to expect. As well as giving you information you won't have to seek out. Like how to get started in the game. Is it pay2win or easy to get into etc..

Things to look out for as a free player

Unable to trade items with players or use voice chat

Cash limit in game is only 2000

Some Power sets are limited from you without the dlc

Two Character Limit instead of 6 characters to create

Vault access is limited to once a week. Compared to every day

Being a free player does not limit pvp at all, but you may end up fighting dlc power sets you're not used to.

But some PVE content maybe not available to you like trinkets. You need to buy the dlc for that. Or subscribe every month for everything.

Gear grind is boss in this game, meaning it's very long and drawn out.

Reasons to play

Lore

Content and the game really starts at 30

Customization is unlock able

Housing

Pets Sidekicks

Doesnt spending even $5 on the game make you a preferred member and remove all kinds of restrictions?

Not all the restrictions. I do not remember everything, but spending 5$ you can:

    - use chat.

    - store more cash for direct use. Still quantity is nothing, limit it is too low. Main limitation as f2p :(

    - more characters per account, 6 I think instead of 2.

    - limited use of auction house.

I would suggest you to start as fp2 and pay 5$ within the fist week if you see potential in the game. After you have played a couple of months, sub or buy the DLCs you like if you do not plan to maintain your sub for long (when you un-sub, you lose access to DLC content if you have not bought it).

Good thing with sub is that it gives you "paid" access to all SOE games.

Can you remap the controls to the keyboard yet so you dont have to remember the mouse-button-combos?  I tried this one back when it first went F2P but after trying to do morse code on my mouse a bit I moved on.

yeah that kind of sucks. if SOE is all about F2P like they said, they would have changed DCUO model to the PlanetSide 2 model by now. Im waiting for that to happen before i play again. I actually switched to the PS4 version but it sucks that i cant link my account so the DLC i got on PC wont carry over. But i wont buy any other DLC unless they take DCUO to a model closer to PlanetSide 2. On PS4 you you cant even get achievements(trophy) if you arent subbed, at least thats what the forum says.

    Not true at all.

The thing is, the daily/weekly/monthly bonuses and specific item drops for duo and group content encourage better geared players to replay lower tier content. The result is that most of the time newer players will be sped through that content at ridiculous speed.

A newly max level player can easily move up several item tiers in a matter of days. It's not until you reach about the second highest tier that it slows down and even then it's not that drawn out.
