    Vendetta Online (playable now)

There's a lot out there.  A lot of it seems like vaporware, a lot of it looks promising (Agent Joseph mentioned Elite:Dangerous, and what I shared really is just the tip of the iceberg).  Right now I'm pretty content with Vendetta Online for my space game fix, but I am watching the industry develop in this new direction with interest.

    +1 allthough not a space-game

Yeah, it seems there's quiet a revival of space-games coming our way, but I'm not really interested in any of those, as they're not real MMOs.

Star Citizen and Elite:Dangerous are more like multiplayer space-shooters, like Freelancer or something like that, and Kerbal or Space Engineers are more like some sort of simulation like the Sims.

I'd consider going back to EvE Online, which I've played for seven years, if they'd drastically change the 0.0-dynamics (moons, supercapitals, true-sec, etc), but that won't happen I guess.

So yeah, lot's of space games, but unfortunately not really MMOs.

It's a shame that STO wasn't as good and went F2P, but somehow I liked it.

true and for reasons I am not sure I understand it appears MMOs are horrifically more difficult for developers then single player. Sure I understand the use of server load and two people on the screen but still.

Anyway, Kerbal would not make a great MMO I don't think, Space Engineers however I think could.

Elite Dangerous which is not in the ops list will be the best space sim for years to come.

Possibly it will be the best sim, but as I said, it won't be a MMO.

I expect that distinction will continue to become less and less important as time goes on.  I think games will be grouped around "AR vs VR" more than "MMO vs non-MMO" in the coming decade.

  • Games don't have to be MMOs to be good. These days "MMO" is usually a sure sign of a mediocre game anyways.

I'll believe it when someone makes Master of Orion IV.

If only we could add Independence War 3 to the growing list of upcomming space games.

I'd consider playing it if it implemented killboards.
