SANDBOX mode

Unlike people saying this is a theme park, I feel it has many aspects similiar to skyrim and oblivion in its sandbox approach.  You can pretty much go where-ever you want, although certain areas are higher level than others.  If you don't want to do a quest that isn't the main quest, you can abandon it and not do it.  If you go to a new area, you have the option of picking up quests in that area and doing stuff in that new area.

If you go into a dungeon and don't have the quest, similiar to skyrim and oblivion you can only pretty much just kill the monsters in the dungeon, and need to pick up the quest for that dungeon to accomplish more in it.

You have many options to do a variety of things, from running quests, to running group dungeons, to pvping ( run with a group don't try to solo), crafting, exploring, and public dungeons.

public dungeons are anyone can go in there and you can usually pick up a quest for doing a public dungeon near it.  Group dungeons you form a group of 4 people and then enter the dungeon.  Group dungeons are usually difficult if your the appropriate level for the dungeon.

Picking up skill points is important, and there are 3 ways to do this.  Leveling at 1 point per level, gaining 3 skyshards gives 1 skill point, and increasing your rank earns you a skill point, each rank in pvp eans 1 skill point.  you cannot start pvping till your level 10.

So unlike skyrim where everything leveled along with you, in this game everything doesn't level with you, instead there are areas that are higher level than others, but you still have the freedom to some extent to decide what quests you do and where you go.

There is a Sandbox mode in ESO.  Its not a complete themepark.  There are many quests I miss and didn't do on my different characters, and its easy to miss doing them all.  Also missed alot of public and group dungeons.

You can go where you want and do what you want.  The only limiting factor being your level and if you can handle the area.

You also have 4 classes to choose from and can decide any of the 3 types of armor and any of the weapons you want to use.  Many people in PVP use a restoration staff for heals.  You decide when you want to train something and how many skill points to put into anything, except when there are thresholds you need to attain first like in crafting.  You can't immediately craft the best potions just by spending skill points in alchemy.

Everyone has access to World Magic that includes casting soul stealing, so you can charge soul gems.  It requires 1 skill point to be able to use it.  Weapons do there base dmg plus a glyph dmg that eventually wears out and needs to be recharged using a soul gem.  Enchanting is another crafting skill to make glyphs.

So in ending, I gave a synopsis of the game for those who are new to it.  There is a sandbox mode in this game similiar to Skyrim and Oiblivion.   The main difference is that stuff isn't autoleveled to your level.

Hang on, you did not say how terrible TESO was...cue the guys who only played beta and the content locusts to start posting now. :)

There are sandbox elements, but TESO is far more themepark than sandbox. That's fine by me, but if anyone wanted to make a sandbox ES game I would look at that as well.

Not going to say ESO was terrible, wasn't what I was looking for, but as far as theme parks go its a good one.

But it is disingenuous to try and spin it being very sandbox like, outside of the fact you do have great flexibility in mix and matching gear and weapons.

I hear OP on the skill system and the crafting, the rest not hardly. Cyrodiil is a heck of a foundation for sandbox game play, but those type of systems need to be put in place, right now it's just awesome AvA (when it works).
