Things to be improved upon

mangarmangar Member UncommonPosts: 296

First off, I play this game on the regular, have all 8 character slots actively filled, have gotten family members addicted, and play way too much. But I do have my gripes and thought that I should share them with the community... because you know, my opinion is really that important!

Any way I thought I would throw out a top 10 list of things that I think need to be addressed (most are commonly discussed)

  1. Group tools, default LFG tool is trash
  2. Group incentives. This is a MMO, people should want to group and have good reason to do so.
  3. The game is too hardcore... when it comes to crafting... well crafting research
  4. Bank space. As a crafter this is a total killer, there is no way to earn the gold needed via crafting to buy all of the additional bag and bank slots needed to successfully stock crafting mats and level your toons. Yeah I get that this is probably a planned pay for perks feature but until they go FTP this has gotta be addressed.
  5. Real group content is fairly hard, and this is a good thing but the PvE world does not provide a good transition from the zergfest that is PvE to the tough heads up play that is group content in this game. I am looking at you mage guy that wants to play like a tank!!!!!!
  6. Elder Scrolls has a rich history of deep PvE social systems the fact that I have not seen a jail and have no fear of taking a stick of bread off the counter in an inn is a serious issue.
  7. On a related note I am not a thief as there is no guild for them... seriously??
  8. Stamina?!?!?! we don't need no stinking stamina!
  9. Heavy armor is a joke, a great big useless joke but not as big of a joke as medium armor. Tank that boss in a dress!!!!
  10. Horses... another money grab... fix this

<img src="http://www.zowned.com/file/pic/user/Opef_120.jpg"; style="border: 0pt none ; margin: 10px 10px 10px 10px; width: 120px; height: 120px;">

    1. I have never used LFG tools in any MMORPG so can not really comment on it other then hoping it will be fixed for those using it. If I group it's always by invite or I invite a group mainly with chat regardless what MMORPG.
    2. I group when I know it might take me futher which for me is already good enough. But I also understand many players want better incentive because I know I am a very different type of player then most. So again hope they adress this.
    3. I actually like the way crafting works with it's researche and traits. This way not everyone can or will do it.
    4. BankspaceI understand the issue, but at the same time it creates this little metagame for me to sort out my inventory. I have noticed that I should be more selective when picking up stuff/looting as many items/resources are unneeded even if I pick them up.
    5. I only noticed a few occasions of groups where people just wanted to run throught a dungeon without any tactics getting killed allot, while I am more of the tactical way and want to take my time in a dungeon. So for me it has more to do with finding the more likeminded group players to be succesfull then I can blame the game for it.
    6. Will wait for your point 6 since it has been talked about in the road ahead of may 1st.
    7. same as 6 gonna wait and see. Wish it would have been in already from release but atleast they are working on it.
    8. Not sure what is meant by your point 8? meant sarcastic or? Perhaps I am wrong but my bow/double blades wielding nightblade seem to all about stamina, while my Templar has a mix of mana and stamina. My sorcerer got the most out of mana and my dragonknight mixes health/stamina. Stil might be doing it wrong but it's the way for now my characters seem the most fun to me.
    9. I might also be to low of level with my characters now ranging between level 21/23, but I build them in a more traditional build. Example my nightblade/medium armor, sorcerer/light armor, dragonknight/heavy armor. Though think I gonna try out my Templar with some medium armor and rebuild/respec him somewhat since wearing heavy seems to be slightly less powerfull at same quest locations then my other characters, so my templar seems the most unbalanced for now.
    10. Not sure yet if I ever gonna need a horse. I have to much fun exploring to gather resources and most of the time when I reach the stage of being able to buy a horse I rather put the money into things for my craft, bags, trading/selling/buying, a respec here or there. Perhaps once I get higher leveld I might want one due to it's extra inventory space. For now doing fine without.
btw thanks OP for a more constructive topic though it didn't really offer solution, nor did I, even if I might disagree/agree with certain things I do like to see how others play or experiance games.

What I think he means is this...

There is a fundamental disadvantage in stamina builds compared to Magicka builds: Magicka stacking improves BOTH your weapon abilities and class abilities. Stamina builds need to concentrate on enhancing one of the the two types of abilities at the expense of the other one.

Even if it were possible to overcharge both Stamina and Magicka to get the full effect of class and weapon abilities, that would be at the expense of health. Magicka builds don't have that disadvantage.

This is the main reason why staves and light armor are disproportionately more popular than other weapons and armor.

Yep, Stam builds (1900-2000 stam) do work, but at the cost of having really weak class attacks. As a stam using Redguard Night Blade, I tend to only use my control or buff class abilities since class abilities scale off magicka.

The feel that I get from the game is that there is a huge flaw in the way that stats, gear, and skills stack up and that only the magic based line was fully thought out and developed at launch. Considering how expansive the equipment and player development system is I have not doubt that the other lines can and will be developed to points equal to the magic line but at this time it is not even close.

But I would ask this for a person who is supposedly a full time fan with family members on and so on, why have you never posted one thing positive about TESO? You do have a litany of negative comments however. I note you are an old Vanguard player, fine game, the diplomacy and crafting quests will always stand out as a missed opportunity for the future of MMOs.

As to the last poster, what bugs?

Personaly I think it's how people build their classes. I am now satisfied with my Dragonknight, second place would be both my bow wielding Nightblade and Sorcerer. All 3 of them had several respects. Not so satisfied yet with my Templar but have not done a respec yet with him.

Obviously seeing the hugh patch list makes me aware of certain imbalance issue with classes but that's not to say I can not build them the way they satisfied my playstyle.

I don't see a ton of harm in the trait research implementation. I like that it gives people more to do with their skill points, and those who wish to specialize in crafting an advantage by being able to research 2 or 3 things at once. It isn't perfect, but I appreciate them trying to make specialized crafters better than the average craft-as-I-level player.

I'm love micromanaging, but otherwise have no explanation for why I like the limited inventory and bank space. Perhaps I'm just a masochist.

This is coming eventually. One of those things that frustrates me (it's what I'm waiting for prior to returning) but I knew it was going to take awhile to begin with, so I'm complaining just to complain. Which is fine, I've always felt like paying for the game gives you the right to complain however much you want. The hope of this game being any different from other on-rails experiences has a lot to do with what you mentioned.
    1. Horses... another money grab... fix this

Someone touched on the stamina thing so I skipped that, but.. there isn't much to do with your gold in this game as it is, and horse levels are capped (last I knew) so at least the feeding is a nuisance with an end. Overall I just wanted more things to do with my gold, not less. Helps that I never bought anything off players, and leveled to VR8 before creating any alts I suppose. Doesn't mean that's the right path, just easier on my coin purse.

Also wanted to say I appreciate the tone of the post. Usually those disclaimers mean "I'm going to troll really hard", but not in this case. All of it came off as a fan of the game just sharing opinions - and we need a little more of that here, I think.

I have not spent as much time cyber stalking myself as you apparently have but I honestly do not recall posting anything overtly negative about ESO. Yeah I griped a bit about Beta and what have you but I also gave them credit where it was due for how Beta evolved but I still contend that this Beta was 90% to test the server technology.

My overall feel for ESO is a tough one because where the game shines it really, really shines but in this you can also pretty much see where the dev team white boarded out goals A-H as must haves for go-live and then I-Z were flagged as post launch updates. Is the game under developed in areas, yeah. Does it have the bones to build upon, yeah. Has this team shown the ability to make drastic large scale changes, yeah. Do I get the notion that if all build outs were on the same level as the magic line the game would be too soloable, yeah. Does the development trend seem to indicate that new content will get harder and harder resulting in players becoming more powerful, yeah. Does this mesh with the natural population flow in MMO's and open the window for skill/gear/stat tweaks that would be game breaking at launch to be added as the population moves and there is a need to two person the low level group content, yeah. Heck the whole thing that a lot of people are complaining about could be a long range plan that works out really well.

In short the game has serious potential but was kind of a Swiss cheese job out of the box. This game has all that it needs to be a great long running and trend setting game and if what we have seen so far is any indication it will reach to and beyond these expectations.

For me though, when this is done does not really matter because I have three factions or lore to geek out on, this is a cornerstone that this franchise was built on and this game got it 100% correct.

it is a great game and should be played.

To the person having issues about bug fixes, honestly the amount of bugs the game launched with was minimal and the rate that they were fixed was really good.

I agree with some of what you say but I just want to highlight this part. Although you're right, the number of bugs wasn't all that large - certainly not as large as some here would have you believe, I have to say that some of them were doozies that allowed the criticism that the launch was amateur hour to get some traction. I've been part of a lot of MMO launches and I saw some things here that I have never seen before:

    1. using your normal log-in credentials and logging into someone else's character and bank
    2. speaking of banks... the mysterious and unfixable dissapearance of some or all items from your bank
    3. even trying to sub to the game was a pain since their form wanted you to put your apartment or unit number on a separate line and then it couldn't find it to send it causing the CC verification to fail (once i used the ###-Street address format, everything went through)

Those and all the other expected little bugs (quests, slow loading screens, freezes, crashes, etc.) that normally are part of MMO launches gave a lot of people a bad first impression and caused the game's review scores to be lower than they had to be. I'm just guessing here but I think that that if the game had launched in the shape that it's in today, you would have seen average scores half a point to a full point higher than they were,

Yeah, there's a very worthwhile and fun game in there but many couldn't get past the annoyances, said screw it and left. That was avoidable.

    Hi

I like this game, so far (level 39 I'm leveling 2 characters in different classes at the same time) it's pretty easy, it's like a single player games which is fine with me, because...

    It's so hard to group!

My friend and I have played MMOs together since Ultima Online, that was in the 90s.

This is the hardest game to play together that we've ever played and we've played a lot of them.

Unless you create your characters and play only at the same time, you never seem to be able to do anything together.

I can't back him up when he needs help, because he's in an instance, the whole city is an instance and when we enter he disappears, never to be seen again until he finishes the quest chain and reappears.

He's having problems in a dungeon, I can't go in with him, or, well you get the idea.

    It's very frustrating.

Add to that the fact that even if I craft great gear, there is no universal auction to sell in on.

I have only the members of my guild, (make sure you join a really big guild) to sell to, so it's just not worth it.

I don't what to spend all my play time spamming for buyers.

My last comment is that even playing alone I'm going through the content pretty quickly.

I hope the plus 50 stuff is good, or I'm going to have to find something else to do until they add stuff.

We've been playing The Secret World since it went live and I can still find stuff to do.

    Well that's my rant.

Quick question, are you doing the Group runs as you level (undaunted stuff)?

Also I like the guild store system. You have like five guilds all with unique economies, play types and social structures. As far as crafting goes I have found that people seek me out and if you spend your time responding to "looking for crafter" OOC's you will find that you can get a client base really quickly. I get several email orders a day from former OOC crafting jobs.

Group and share quest thing... I get it so no comment on that.

Since the gameplay has been touched on already I will just add that in the future I would like to see armors / clothing that are more than just a skin and then cloaks. Probably will never happen.

I remember EQ2 going with armor that was not a skin and it was fairly messy considering the wide variance in racial designs. Might not be that big of a deal with ESO and it would be cool to not see yourself breathing through your heavy armor.

Cloaks I can totally see... and the did just patch in new light armor chest items.
