Is this game dead?

The people who self-identify as players say it's not dead.  The people who do not self-identify as players say it's dead or at the very least, dying.  Neither group has any objective evidence, so I suppose the answer depends on whether or not you believe people who are playing the game or people who offer an opinion without offering that they play the game.

It doesn't seem like a dead game would need thirty servers though.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Realistically they could probably move the game to 5 servers. I was on one server and nothing got done. Hardly anyone talked, almost no runs were existent.

When I moved to brandywine I had a much better experience. I paid the $30 or $25, cant remember been a few months now, to move servers. I am much happier now. More players mean more chances to run stuff, to interact with players, to enjoy the game much more and experience everything possible much easier.

You still dont see much people while questing but its still fun. I love the big battles that were introduced. They are really hard if you dont have a team that works together well.

So is this game dead? I dont think so but having ghost servers does hurt the image of the game, if I stayed on the server I was on then I would probably never look back, end content is what I enjoy doing. It sucks that this expansion didnt really deliver on that on though. I had fun with the Rohan raids though as well as building up your town which was interesting and different.

I was a loyal fan from launch up until Warner Brothers bought Turbine and it's been going down hill since.  I stopped playing a couple weeks after it went F2P.  Go back every now and then to see how things are and it seems to get worse every time I do.  I finally removed it from my HD and will never be going back.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

About 6 months ago I decided to take a big plunge. My game plan was to finally play this game hard, make friends and have an alt life inside LOTRO. Several times in all the years I've toyed around with low level characters but had other mmos in mind....But now I was ready.

Well to my surprise they made the game extremely easy.  Game breaking easy to the point it's like this :

    On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the easiest, 10 being hard.......It's a 1 !!!!!!!

It's so easy that it's broken. How can anyone play such a broken game is beyond me.  What developers and players that still play are thinking is beyond me....Why?....I would really like to know ?

Based on "About 6 months ago" that was because of HD. With the changes in skills and the whole trait system revamp, the game became over-easy (there were lots of threads about it around the web if you'd really like to know). A few months later they've tried to fix it in U13, only to swing the pendulum to the other side :) some level ranges and some story instances became unplayable, mostly the escort-ones. The loss of mitigation hit those areas hard.

So there was an another tweak a month ago, now it's somewhere on the middle. Still easier than it was before HD, but at least not broken like it was right after HD. (a few classes with optimised setup still can solo 3-mans at the cap though)

That's the thing - Turbine listened to people like you and made the game much harder in the most recent update, which made the game impossible to play for all but the hard core players.

Who still bitch the game is too easy and a faceroll. But it's gotten rid of all the casual players like me

R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there

So they recently fixed LOTRO ?.......It's not crazy easy now ?

I just restarted Vanilla WoW again, got into the most popular Guild of super friendly players and were all working together. So I'm having fun again in a real mmo.

But if they fixed LOTRO......I'll give it a try again in a month or two.

Oh boy... I've detailed it just 2 posts above Jeremy's... (btw he's wrong, that wasn't the most recent update, as I wrote above there was an another update a few weeks ago, where they tried to pull back the difficulty)

But then again, current state difficulty-wise, compared to pre-HD version of LotRO 1-2 years ago:

at the end it's easier (mostly because the level cap increase and the trait changes)

on the landscape it's pretty much like it was before HD, except:

        - around 50, where you start the LI system it's a bit tougher (and more tougher if you build your LI in a 'wrong' way, thanks to the stat changes)

        - around 85 (the former endgame area) is tougher because it was built with a different mindset, before trait and mitigation changes came into the picture.

And finally, there are areas remained (mostly personal story instances and a few landscape parts too) where the game is still mostly unplayable if you're on-level, even with the last tweak which moved the game back towards easy. A few is tough even if you're 6-7 levels above the content. Luckily it's only a few cases.

At this point, you could start maybe for this: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/414255/WEATHERSTOCK-6-IS-ALMOST-HERE.html

    It's a pretty good point I guess :)

But, I started playing recently and I'm having a great time.

If someone is interested in the game, I don't see any reason NOT to start playing now.

My only advice would be to do a little research on what server is appropriate for you.

I was all excited that they fixed the easiness of the game from 6 months ago.

I patched the game, and logged into my lv 17 Loremaster. I'M STILL TWO SHOTING EVERYTHING !......Lv 20 mobs, 3 shoting them or send in my pet and they easily do all the work for me.

So much for them fixing the game.....I'll come back in 6 more months to see if they fixed it !

Khm... they fixed the easiness of 6 months ago. 3shotting something is +200% tougher than 1shotting :)

On a more serious tone, it seems your problem is not originated from HD. The game was getting easier as the years passed. Based on your slider (1 to 10, 1 is the easiest) the game launched as a 7, then at around Mirkwood it was only 6, then with RoI a 5, after that with RoR was already a 4. Then came HD...

With HD they seriously f**ked up the game unintentionally, it suddenly dropped down to the 1-1.5 region difficulty-wise. With U13 arrived the (also f-ed up) fix, the game suddenly jumped up above 5, in some cases even more tougher, effectively chasing away casual players. Turbine fixed that with U13.1, and that's how we're getting now to the same state as we were before HD, at around 4 difficulty. (with the exceptions I detailed in the previous post)

Your issue is not solved by this, simply because the LM was way too OP before HD too. Back in RoR days a good LM could clear T2 3-mans without breaking a sweat. So even with Turbine has set back the difficulty to the pre-HD levels, if you play on an LM, you'll feel the game easy, because it was easy pre-HD.

(to be honest, the last time when it was a challenge for me to play low-level LM was 3-4 years ago... when you had to use all your cc, your pet's abilities, and even watch for the cd's as well and control the fight if it was more than 3 attacking mobs at once... yep, LM was fun. Now you just let your pet loose, and /sit.)
